Soooooooo about China trying to, you know, buy 2 MPs

At some point we are going to move on from JLR being an arsehole to women and you know, ask questions about the Chinese Government buying 2 MPs right? Like that’s coming up eh? Like that’s a direct threat to our fucking sovereignty eh, we aren’t this easily distracted right?

I’m sure you could find 20 men who have been bullied by JLR as well, the media’s desperation to catch a MeToo villain is missing the far bigger issue of a country attempting to distort our sovereignty- JLR is an arsehole and a bully, China however attempted to buy and influence our Government and this after they already have one spy inside National and are threatening our academic who is highlighting all of this.

For everyone exclaiming outrage JLR was promoted after news he wasn’t pleasant to women was known – cough cough – remember Sabin being promoted to Chair the Law & Order Committee after his ‘issue’ was known? National MPs are arseholes, Sooooo when will we start talking about Chinese business interests closely connected to the Communist Party directly buying Chinese MPs for the National Party list?

Can the Left set up a fund me campaign to buy National Party MPs too?

If a former Officer in the US Army paid $100k for two Americans to become MPs there would be outrage, so how come the total media silence of a Chinese businessman who was a former leader in the Communist Party doing exactly that? How is JLR being a bully a bigger story?

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

Woke journalists see JLR bullying as a bigger story because of the interpersonal dynamics aligning with heteronormative patriarchy power imbalances and believe using anonymous sources to promote that narrative along with a woman who consensually had sex with JLR (but who now believes she was coerced into sex because of  #patriarchy) is a far more important story than you know, China trying to infiltrate our democracy.

Russia hacks elections, China just buys them and our wilful exclusion of that element of this story in favour of anonymous sources making complaints is extraordinary.

The issue about JLR’s bullying and harassment now becomes one the National Party has to explain after they covered it up and still promoted him. It’s incredible that his leaking of Bridges expenses became the trigger to remove him and not his bullying of female staff.

Is Jami-Lee Ross stupid enough to believe Crusher Collins will allow him to set up a new right wing party after destroying Simon Bridges?

If anyone is honestly surprised that this hasn’t been the play all along you aren’t paying attention.

All we need now is a ‘finish him’ meme for Judith.

  1. It is outrageous that we have not acted on this since Brady’s research became very public we need to get on with it now!

Everyone knows about the influence that the great ‘democratic’ (LOL) country – you know the bully of the world has on our nation but this is so underhand and both the main parties are into it. Disgraceful.

    • +100 MICHAL….New Zealanders are so naive about China and our politicians selling us out.

Most New Zealanders would get a shock if they were to visit China…polluted and overpopulated in the extreme.

New Zealand is heaven in comparison.

Most New Zealanders would get a shock if they were to look at human rights in China

…this corruption is what we are inviting into our country

    • “threatening our academic who is highlighting all of this.”
Firstly let me quite clear i hold no brief one way or the other on China, but after listening on rnz national radio to somebody who i believe to have been professor Brady, railing against China in a north american accent, i tried to do a little research on her history. The professor is a member of the wilson center, based in Pennsylvania ave.Washington D.C. also the Kissinger institute. Of interest was the wikipedia qualification. As i like to know from which direction i am being fed information, try as i might i could not find any history apart from a stint at an Australian university, nothing as to country of birth, nationality etc.

      • Wrong about the american accent, the rest of the reply stands. As the professor is now the go to for all things china, Q+A etc. if anyone can find a resume of the professors academic history and connections a link please?
I am not interested in the number of books authored.

  2. You begin to understand how the theft of our swamp kauri and water has been allowed to happen when kiwi MP positions are simply bought by a foreign country.
NZ First might be untainted by Chinese money and in a position to push for rule changes? Should be a political winner for actual New Zealanders. Would appeal to their support base too.
    Hello NZ First………

  3. I’d say the most appalling thing is how cheap our National Party is – $100k per list seat! The saying about knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing springs to mind.
Democracy is very fragile it’s about time we acknowledge that as a country and fund it properly

  5. Surprised the woke lefties were not out to condemn . Suggests maybe the woke leftie movement is yet another attempt to manipulate by the right to keep their neoliberal messages going and real questions from being answered.

Neoliberalism relies on Immigration to work, otherwise they literally run out of money as the 0.1% hoover up everything within the country and the other 99.9% of people living in the country don’t have enough spare money to buy anything so the Ponzi falls over. Even worse in a welfare state like NZ, people can also survive without working – there is a safety net. To keep neoliberalism going, you have to add more money and workers into each country and they do that through ‘relaxing’ immigration while simultaneously tightening welfare. In particular neoliberalism wants to encourage immigration to people who are not particularly well educated (fake degrees), not used to democracy (don’t speak out and fall prey to scams) and from countries more used to corruption, (cultural fit and more donations) so that the neoliberal Ponzi is not disrupted.

Thinking 2 Chinese are more ‘valuable’ than 2 Indians is pretty much the ultimate racist but not a peep from the woke lefties.

As for thinking Natz are doing this to being more ethnically diverse as has been suggested, dream on! It’s clearly just a way to get more donations and with their Electoral fraud tactics, aka increasing the vote share of the favoured candidate by for example removing all reasonable requirements for migration such as language tests and encouraging investment in property as a category for migration purposes and people on low wages getting residency on the back of fake degrees and jobs, driving up the prices of property so that the poorer folks can no longer be housed in Auckland and other main cities, increasing day to day prices of goods like power, water and petrol, while simultaneously depressing the vote share of the rival candidates aka removing right for people to vote in prison while inexplicably increasing the amount of people in prison by 30% who are in prison, or both.

Identity politics is a joke, and the lack of left condemnation on ethnic valuing as well as the revelation that you can buy your way into politics so easily in NZ as well as gain accolades such as ” order of merit of NZ”, is sickening.

Like with Rogernomics they had to destroy the idea that Kiwi workers were great employees, which they have effectively achieved over 30 years in this country, and under neoliberalism they need to destroy the idea that people born in NZ has any extra rights than anyone else in the world with a few $$$ they can fly in become a Kiwi with a bit of paper work and an immigration lawyer or middleman, that way you can get the ‘right’ people in, or just a warm body to vote for you and cheaply work in your business, while buying consumer goods, from a government or business perspective .

Coincidentally this approach also dilutes other voters, so in a slim margin, it changes the course of elections and long term will radically change NZ’s direction, not through democracy but through political tactics to engineer another future into this low wage economy owed and run by offshore interests and become part of Asia instead of an independent nation.

  6. Interesting article which looked at 31 countries including Kenya and Gambia and found that the UK had among the weakest public finances of the lot except, Portugal.

Somber reading for NZ which has adopted a very similar strategy of “fiscal illusion’ and public assets sell offs in government and councils, which like the UK will be leaving the country with long term financial problems when the cupboard is bare. Unlike the UK, we tend to sell off our cheap assets offshore… China being willing buyer, hey our Ministers are even giving assets away like water rights… why would you deliberately do this is the question and screw over future generations???

    extract from the UK article…

“The other big reason for the UK’s financial precarity is its privatisation programme, described by the IMF as no less than a “fiscal illusion”. British governments have flogged nearly everything in the cupboard, from airports to the Royal Mail – often at giveaway prices – to friends in the City. Such privatisations, judge the fund, “increase revenues and lower deficits but also reduce the government’s asset holdings”.

Throughout the austerity decade, ministers and economists have pushed for spending cuts by pointing to the size of the government’s annual overdraft, or budget deficit. Yet there are two sides to a balance sheet, as all accountants know and this IMF work recognises. The same goes for our public realm: if Labour’s John McDonnell gets into No 11 and renationalises the railways, that would cost tens of billions – but it would also leave the country with assets worth tens of billions that provided a regular income.

Instead, what this IMF research shows is that the Westminster classes have been asset-stripping Britain for decades – and storing up financial trouble for future generations.”

  7. So, I guess we now know, who the Commie political party is now! Its not labour at all as we’ve been led to believe for all these years!

  8. The only difference between the Bridges reign and the Key/ English reign is that Key/English did a better job at keeping the Chinese influence hidden.( and even then everyone knew)

  9. Martyn;

You are right. Your headline is the real story to come out of all of this.

“Perhaps the latest and largely unspoken concern relates to a growing realization that the dramatic increases in Chinese emigration to places like Australia and New Zealand etc., particularly since the 2000s, have given rise to large groups of citizens with voting power and sometimes able to sway even general elections, who often remain largely under the sway of the PRC Party-state via its propaganda and United Front Work.”

“There’s been a big upsurge in concern over last 18 months about Chinese influence in Australia,” Varrall continues.
One lightening rod for this burgeoning sense of paranoia was the rejection for publication of Clive Hamilton’s Silent Invasion, a book that discusses the creeping sway of Beijing in Australian life. According to Hamilton, the publisher, Allen and Unwin, originally refused to publish, citing “worries about retaliation from Beijing.”

  10. As yet MSM (with the exception of RNZ) seems to have completely ignored the Chinese threat to NZ democracy and national sovereignty and have failed to expand the narrative beyond petty sexual politics and personal revenge . Why ?

Best to avoid China bashing during the delicate renegotiation of the China /NZ FTA ? I think so . Does this explain the silence from Labour , because MFAT has told them to zip it ? Sounds plausible .

Attacking National for corruption is an internal poll winner for sure but it may also be a lead balloon if you want to conclude a better deal in trade talks with the Chinese.

This surely is the major story but its failing to get exposure and Labour isn’t helping .

Labour have had a fantastic opportunity to put the boot into National for systematic corruption but not a peep from them all week .

But there’s also another reason… ,maybe, just maybe they want Simon Bridges to survive and have no interest in accelerating his downfall .

If I were Jacinda I would be hoping Bridges can retain his leadership because even in terms of prefered Prime Minister polls she is streets in front and likely to be more so by 2020.

Most pundits think Crusher is in line for the throne but her proven connections to Chinese influence may not sit well with a suspicious NZ public ,and may not boost Nationals poll ratings if she too is implicated in ongoing corruption with regard to future Chinese aspirations .Remember dirty politics , Judith Collins was front and centre with Chinese dirty dealings .

Amy Adams with deputy Mark Mitchell would be the safer option for broad appeal .However….

Mark Mitchell used to run a middle eastern “security” company which turned over millions of dollars for killing people .Genuinely ruthless and ominous individual .

I would stick with Simon Bridges if possible. He may be light-weight and bumbling , but strategically he would be easier to defeat in 2020 .

Him managing to hang could be the best thing to ever happen for Labour , and that may in part explain ,why Labour instead of landing the killer blow this week , is staying well outside the boxing ring.

  11. So who produced the map titled ” Chinese Official finance with diplomatic intent 2011 to 2016″ ? Who decided there was diplomatic intent and how come Australia is lily white? To be fair there is bound to be diplomatic intent just as NZ giving aid to Kiribati would not expect them to not support NZ on most international issues. It is drawing a long bow to suggest there is a threat to NZ democracy because some ethnic Chinese resident New Zealanders give $100,000 to the nats. If you watch the block similar people paid close to 1million to buy a house in Auckland but if they are NZ citizens then why not? Should NZ allow people to become residents just because they are rich? Now that is a different question.
I am all for NZ for NZ’ers but wait until some actual proven outside interference in NZ’s democracy occurs before maligning China. Oh yes and “Russia hacks elections’? Its pretty clear Seth Rich leaked the Democratic Party documents and paid with his life and the Mueller investigation has been a total waste of time coming up with nothing.
Instead of maligning Russia as TV1, TV3, and National Radio do at every opportunity, if you have ears to hear, why don’t you sound the alarm about why our own intelligence services add their voice on cue to unsubstantiated claims of Russia Hacking. Why don’t they put up or shut up. Oh I know the Russians poisoned a has-been British/Russian spy with Novichok so they must be evil.

      • Simonm. The west has outsourced a lot of its dirty industry to China so you can have your fancy iPhone or affordable steel-work in your suburban palace, so I imagine the smog situation in Beijing is not great. Similarly your electric car if not completely produced in China probably has a battery produced in China so you can gad about town patting yourself on the back saying “look at me no pollution” while the Chinese breath shit. Ironically they make a lot of money which brings us back to this very article doesn’t it

  12. The potential corruption of NZ govt is from filthy rich China businessmen together with their NACT friends.

That does not equate with China’s Govt.

Read into it what you like.

The real threat to the world is hardly China.
