The elitist smug pus that oozes from new National ad is symbolic of everything that is wrong about this country

Jesus wept, the tone deafness of National’s latest advert is just fucking ugly.

Fit, sleek, elitest fuckwits out jogging in their expensive jogging  clothes all working hard on their own without any hegemonic structures that National right wing economic policy help empower are slowing them down, oh no, they are ‘succeeding’ off their own energies.

It’s like the 41 000 homeless don’t exist.

It’s like the 300 000 children living in poverty don’t exist.

It’s like the 1600 NZers who die from cold homes each year don’t exist.

It’s like the 10 000+ in our overcrowded Prisons don’t exist.

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

It’s like there aren’t 550 000 NZers living with severe hardship each year.

It’s like their hasn’t been $2billion in underfunding health.

It’s like the 1500 who commit suicide each year don’t exist.

It’s like the students in debt don’t exist.

It’s like the hundreds of thousands locked out of home ownership don’t exist.

Just selfish asset rich arseholes all jogging their way to a smug victory.

These National Voters are the very kind who would jog past the beggars in our streets and bitch about how they are forced to look at them while on their run.

If this is really what NZ is about, fuck you while I succeed?

That’s National’s vision is it?

That’s delivering for ‘all NZers’ is it?

Smug self-satisfied arseholes jogging past the poor and the sick – that’s NZ after 9 years under the National Party is it?

The harvest from the 30 year neoliberal revolution is more addictive and poisonous than we had ever feared.

If this advert genuinely appeals to you, then you are the problem.

  1. That poorly thought out ad appears to denigrate disabled people, rather than just insult opposition parties.

  2. Welcome to the real world, you all are in the minority…majority of NZ voters are looking out for themselves. Want to help others..absolutely, as long as they help themselves. Look at all the pimping of the poor Campbell did, every person he put on camera had a back story that made the public turn away (that was not of course told on camera, that came later) National are for people to help themselves, Labour are the party to throw money at the symptom, not the cause. You always seem astonished at what National haven’t done, welcome to politics…not all parties agree with your far left outlook, Labour included!

    • Ahh the “I’M Hard Right wing Reich has spoken. Sadly, policy by the hard right, create the very issues in society we have today. This election will prove that not everyone agrees with your rabid hard right wing ideaology.

Labour are the party to throw money at the symptom, not the cause.”

The cause has always been created by right wing ideaology. Muldoon, Ruth Richardson, Key and now English.

This election will see the end of neoliberalism and some very outdated National ministers.

    • Well lets see if those fuckers wipe your arse in a few years time when your senility goes up to the next notch.

    • National are for people to help themselves

The only part of your smug selfishness, Imright, that is in any way a real reflection of your bankrupt philosophy. National are indeed “for people to help themselves”… they help themselves to the wealth of this country whilst the less fortunate are left to struggle; pit welfare recipient against low-paid worker; pit migrant against local-born; strip health and education of funding until people are dying on waiting lists… and th list goes on.

People like you help yourselves to what this country has to offer – and deny others the same opportunity.

Paula Bennett is the Master Hypocrite in this instance. She availed herself of a tax-payer funded Training Incentive Allowance to gain a free tertiary education – and then stopped it in 2009 after she became Minister for Social Welfare.

Even in the midst of your right-wing rants, subconsciously you reveal the vileness of your self-centered philosophy of Me First.

Thankfully, thirty-odd years of the neo-liberal experiment is drawing to a close. That frightens you, doesn’t it?

    • National are for people to help themselves,

National are for the people who help themselves – to taxpayers money.

Labour are the party to throw money at the symptom, not the cause

Poverty isn’t caused by “people not helping themselves”. It’s caused mostly by oppression of the ruling class, who take from a limited pool of resources to make themselves rich – and in the process inadvertently depriving everyone else, especially those most in need. The left’s solution to this problem is more equitable distribution of resources – those at the top help those struggling at the bottom, rather than accelerate the gap between themselves and everyone else.
The point is, when those struggling on the margins are helped instead of attacked, they too are able to contribute their fully potential to the economy.

National – Those at the “top” using any-means-necessary accelerating away from everyone else.
Labour – Taking a more pragmatic approach, focusing more on helping those struggling on the margins, so that they too can contribute.

National – Wasting resources on assaulting the poor, putting them in prisons, keeping them impoverished to make themselves feel rich.
Labour – Using the resources that would’ve been used to assault the poor, to instead give them (more of) a helping hand, providing needed services for which result in more effective economic contribution.

Simply put, if you don’t have a roof over your head, you’re not going to be doing much for GDP. It never ceases to amaze me how much the right struggle with such simple logic 🙂

    • “Labour are the party to throw money at the symptom…”

      Do you really believe that?

Does all the money-chucking that National has indulged in over the last nine years, for the benefit of a few, not register?

Do the repeated instances of serious incompetence and lacks in business capacity as well as a dearth of ethics, at the very least, not register with you? A tribe of ‘managers’ and lawyers and ‘professional’ committee sitters. Led by either an ‘assassin’ or a Treasury bean counter – and Treasury is renowned for its guesstimates, isn’t it.

I know. I know. It’s impossible to argue against ingrained beliefs and prejudices. Sometimes it’s hell to be an optimist…:-(

“Labour are the party to throw money at the symptom…” First rule in First Aid – ‘start the breathing, stop the bleeding’. First the obvious, then the cause – otherwise the victim will be DOA.

  3. Yeah that pretty well sums up the government and the people who support the National party its me, me and more me !!

The neo liberal system after thirty years has done its job of creating massive wealth and comfort for many and the peace of mind that wealth brings and not having a real conscience or understanding of life for so many more who are nothing more than wage slaves and carrying these people on their collective backs and doing the heavy lifting and for what ?

Who ever wins the 2017 general election will still have to confront what is a ticking time bomb that the current sysytem has created.

  4. At the end of the day, this promotional video reflects the unity and fitness of the National Party moving the country forward in the right direction. It symbolises that, as a team, everyone has to pull their own weight and there is no room for complainers.

Martyn, I detect fitness envy in your post. If you went for an occasional run instead of blogging and eating chips all day, you may benefit from greater clarity of perception and then realise that New Zealand benefits from great political leadership.

      • i dont think it does. It encourages business and those who will get off their bums as opposed to the opposition who seem to want to trample anyone who attempts to better them selves.

        • It encourages Todd Barclay, it allows many businesses to close, it encourages increased homelessness, it encourages corruption, it encourages poverty etc etc etc .

        • Dave – like Paula Bennett did on the taxpayer funded Training Incentive Allowance, which she canned in 2009?

Please – do share with us your thoughts on that. I’m intrigued how you can explain it away.

        • … ” It encourages business and those who will get off their bums ” …

The only ‘getting off their bums ‘ National did was to line their own pockets with other peoples money. Such as the Dipper did when he helped himself to a $32,000.00 publicly paid – for housing allowance a few years back.

So , not only is the very guy who now leads that corrupt party a hypocrite he also demonstrates a proclivity towards deceit and rort.

Hardly an inspiring ‘leader’ to follow by example if we want honesty and integrity in our tax payer funded salaried civil servants.

And if that is the sort of ideals you would like to see translated into action then you are a minority. Most people don’t want that . Nor do most people in NZ want another tenet of neo liberalism , – that of privatization of our state owned assets.

In fact , the public do not even want private – public deals for our social services , as evidenced by the huge turn out when Jacinda Adern appeared and then gave a statement opposing that arrangement.

          ………………………………..

Last week National leader Bill English visited the city, and pledged to rebuild the facility for $1.4 billlion within 7-10 years.

He said National would look at co-funding the project with the private sector and was greeted at the hospital by protesters, rallying against health care cuts.

Labour leader Jacinda Ardern says her party would build a new hospital without using PPP (public private partnership) – and says they would relocate it to the city centre. …

Labour matches National’s promise of new Dunedin hospital – fully …
          https://www.tvnz.co.nz/…news/new…/labour-matches-nationals-promise-new-dunedin…

          ………………………………..

          So there you go.

Your snide , rude arrogant remarks justifying your assumed liberty to look down on other human beings as if they were nothing but shit on the end of your shoe have been proven to be groundless and nothing more than a mental construction of your own wishful thinking.

Neo liberalism is coming to an end.

And that is good because it is in the nick of time, as civil unrest would be around the corner if it wasn’t. You should therefore be thanking Labour and Adern for preventing this happening rather than railing like a spoilt child denied their lollies … the free lunch is over and corporate welfare is soon to be dead .

As evidenced by policy’s Little announced to force multinationals to pay their fair share of tax.

And there will be other significant changes afoot that will be making you and your ilk squeal even louder.

I do not think you and your self centered ideology are going to very happy in future in this country with the changes that are about to start happening ,… perhaps you should consider leaving…

    • ” fitness of the National Party moving the country forward”

Geez are you blind, Gerry Brownlee, Steven Joyce and Paula Bennett are hardly fit for anything. Yes they certainly have weight on their side but the rest of your comment offers very little substance.

      • Pike River , Operation Burnham , increased Corruption Index, among the Lowest wages in the OECD, Increase in profits yet no significant increases in wages , Housing crisis , Exploitation of immigrant workers, Education scams , Polluted waterways , Homelessness , High suicide rates among the young , Unacceptable hospital waiting lists , Neglected regional development … and that’s just the start …

        Yup.

We sure are ‘ moving ahead ‘ under the Double Dippers governance…

But only if you are being willfully politically blind… or a complete ideologue type of wanker …

        ………………………………..

‘ Business profits leap ahead while wages struggle to outpace inflation’

So screams the headlines on Stuff.

Business profits leap ahead while wages struggle to outpace inflation …
        https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/…/business-profits-leap-ahead-while-wages-struggle-to-…

Company profits jumped 8.6 per cent last year, while the real average hourly-wage stood still. Statistics NZ said the combined operating profits of New Zealand businesses climbed by $5.2 billion to just over $65 billion.

That was helped by a 17 per cent jump in the operating profits of larger businesses that employ more than 20 staff, which rose to more than $29b. Meanwhile, the mean-average hourly wage rose just 1.3 per cent, with the increase only matching the rate of inflation.

Council of Trade Unions economist Bill Rosenberg said the statistics were more evidence that the share of income going to wages and salaries was falling. “That indicates wages are not keeping up with what the economy’s income could actually afford.”

But Kirk Hope, chief executive of BusinessNZ, said the ‘ increase in company profits meant jobs were more secure ‘ .

How interesting, … what with the Employment Relations Act , 90 day trials, and legislation designed to enable employers to lock Unions out of stepping foot on business premises… he would say that ,… wouldn’t he.

  5. Hahaha ahaha ahahahha aha ahahahaha a a !
Kitsch , tacky and All American for it’s hairless, bleached arsehole appeal. A new height in low.

On a more sober note. It’s just another National Party lie. Surprise, surprise.

    • L00L ! – All it needed was another Arsehole on the side of the road charging the joggers for user pays and the neo liberal National ad would have been complete !

Maybe Security Door Brownlee, or Benefit or Herr Joyce , … or even the Double Dipper himself !

I dunno ,… something was missing, … and not just integrity either…

  6. Nationalites may believe they are moving the country forward, especially as they have managed a 3.5 billion surplus this year, unfortunately the next few years will revert to their usual deficits and low growth .However it is an achievement National can be proud of in view of the lack of any real long term economic and social planning or strategym apart from more immigrants, more cows and more prisons.
Shame about the 92 to 93 billion dollar national debt that the government seems reluctant to address, or homeless folk sleeping in the streets,It must be frustrating for the government to see the affects of their poor management in such a public way.
But hey, people in New Zealand and National supporters in particular don’t really care about the state of society so long as they’re doing fine, that’s all that matters. They actually believe the poor, homeless and low income earners deserve the living conditions they endure as they are lazy, on P or drink, have far too many children and won’t work.
The USA is far more caring of the less able members of society than New Zealand is and we are supposedly a community minded, democratic state.
But hey that’s to be expected,National governments have usually promoted social division and inequalities,New Zealanders seem like it,so long may it remain.

  7. Labour have just reduced the cost of doctors visits for everyone. I can see that the poor should well get assistance to go to the doctor but why subsidies rich people. Yet another demonstration of Labour loosing its way.

    • You’ve lost me why is it, “loosing it’s way “?

The way I see it, you’ve always bagged Labour Dave . This policy has the potential to bring a number of wealthy across to Labour( but I doubt it), so is an intelligent policy.

I just really believe now that those who crossed over to National 9 years ago, have finally realised that right wing ideaology and an economy built on immigration, National disasters and the GFC just doesn’t include “ALL” New Zealanders.

Labour have always been the party to try to correct National Government mistakes…

Anyone genuinely interested in reviewing what was accomplished in 9 years of the current National-led government should review the Wikipedia entry “Fifth National Government of New Zealand” (Google that phrase). Here you will find everything delivered by this government in its three terms. The dominant theme is “abolished”, “rescinded”, “suspended”, “sold” with limited examples of new things being created.

By contrast read the equivalent entry for “Fifth Labour Government of New Zealand” to review what was accomplished in nine years of Clarke/Cullen government. It is a totally different scene. Dominant terms are “created”, “established”, “restored”. Under Labour many major new institutions of national significance were created – KiwiBank and KiwiSaver to cite two.

After reading these I suspect that you will be drawn to conclude, as I did, that Labour is the party of building and strengthening support structures; National is the party of knocking down and weakening support structures.

Little surprise then that this election campaign has seen Labour adopt a “relentlessly positive” position whilst National is intent on knocking that down.

And as a reminder about policy, Labour has made it easier for “ALL” New Zealanders to see a GP, National has announced a policy raging against Freedom campers. Yet another demonstration of NATIONAL loosing its way.

    • Dave, would you rather poor people develop contagious diseases and not get treatment?

Because I’ll tell you this and every other fucking rich-prick who votes for National: bacteria and virii are no respecters of political affiliation or income-band.

I know self-interest is the only currency that conservative voters understand. Well, in your own self-interest, you better hope that Labour’s plan succeeds.

If poor people develop a contagious disease, you better relocate to the goddamn Kermadecs – otherwise you risk infection just like anyone else.

Poor or rich, makes no difference.

      • And , … my good man Frank , … I will also remind both you and the peculiar ‘Dave’ the poor are not so poor they cannot own a pitchfork…

It is in Daves and the rest of us best interest this economic sabotage under National comes to an end smartly.

You can only treat people like animals for so long before they say ENOUGH !!!

  8. Remember the ‘I’m all right, Jack’ attitude we used to be notorious for? remember the ‘Great Clobbering Machine? All part of the mean-spiritedness that is the dark side of the New Zealand national character. Sure, Kiwis have their fine points, and, ironically enough, generosity of spirit does shine though from time to time when there is acute need.

But this grinding mean-spirited attitude goes a long way to depreciate the finer aspects of the New Zealand national character. It was especially noticeable recently when people chose, quite deliberately, to ignore Metiria Turei’s message and condemn her for a petty peculation of the type they forgave Bill English.

  9. The picture is so obviously photoshopped.
if they had been truly jogging wouldn’t there be a least a hint of sweat on their clothes?
    Nope.
    Clean as a whistle.
Shows how much effort National puts into its ads, the same effort it puts into government.
    Very little.

      • But the themes correct , – this is really a bunch of low waged workers who cannot afford a car , – let alone a bus ticket to get to work.

And when they run home from their low waged jobs, they get to sleep under a bridge. And if you look real hard , – you can just see the bridge in the background near the swampy floodplain it was built over…

  10. Definitely CGI.
Water in NZ is no longer that blue.

Speaking of blue, why are these actors wearing teal?

Too ashamed to wear National blue I’m guessing.

  11. Looks like the 2014 rowing boat sank like the NZ economy. Now they have to run to get to their Zero Hour Contract jobs. #NationalEpicFail

As an aside, being actors, I wonder if they’re employees or contractors under the so-called “Hobbit Law” the Natz gleefully passed for Warner Bros?

  12. Panic not my little Bombarino!

It’s gonna take a lot more than a cheesey ad to make me vote National.

Prolly something like hell freezing over…

  13. Great to see National recycling, sadly without environmental benefit.

The only thing green in this video is the green screen, lush vibrant sceneries laid over with National’s athletes. Undesirables effectively edited out of the deluded fantasy world envisaged. A background of psychedelic dollar signs would have been more apt.

The previous election’s ad recycled, minus the row boat, plus some brown faces–heaven forbid them to lead the pack, a dyed blonde instead, reminiscent of unsavoury historical propaganda images of Aryan supremacy. A woman, in a vain attempt to thwart “Jacindamania” perhaps?

The “opposition” runners collasping as this lot passed? Because of overwealming noxious gasses?

From rowing to running, probably symbolic of what’s to come, boat privatised, everyone given the run-around, seen as for our own good.

A complete absence of originally in accordance with their policies, possibly the only lesson learned is avoiding any copyright issues with the sound.

  14. This political ad actually breaches the principles in the code of ethics in the representation of people in the Advertising Standards Authority rulebook.
Advertising must not be seen to cause serious offence by allowing or encouraging contempt, ridicule, discrimination etc of people on grounds of their ethnicity, gender, employment status, political opinions or disability. Look it up, its all there on the ASA website. This requires a formal complaint.

    • I reckon Labour should counter that ad by having the same actors jogging past in their teal clothes with a guy on a Harley roaring past , … and the caption saying :

” Labours going to fast track urgent changes to how things are done ” ….

  15. “Secure your future?” Tell that to young hard working couples/families who are finding it impossible to even save a deposit for their first home!
Under Nationals last 9 years they have bought this crisis about…shame on them.

  16. I remember meeting a young guy once who told me, “It took me a few years to realise that I had studied law just so I could wear a suit to work.” He came to his senses and changed careers doing something he found much more fulfilling, and ended up wearing a suit to work anyway.

Unfortunately, when advertisements like this are played, all most people see is the glitz and cleanliness, and unconsciously it appeals to them. They don’t spend time trying to understand the issues. Instead, National tacitly give them permission to justify their own ignorance.
I think the underclass see those ads and just shut them out, because they know that “NZ moving forward” doesn’t involve them, and are more concerned about where they will sleep tonight than some smug **** on the cover of Women’s Day.

    • That’s why I said ,…

… ” Labour should counter that ad by having the same actors jogging in their teal clothes with a guy on a Harley roaring past , … and the caption saying :

” Labours going to fast track urgent changes to how things are done ” ….

Except I would have liked to add the guy on the Harley should be dressed in leathers and jeans , long hair flowing in the wind , road dusty biker boots and doing a wheelie @ 120 kph.

      On a gleaming chopper. 🙂

Hehe… perhaps a little reckless looking but illustrates the point …

Take no prisoners and feed it to them.

  17. It is what it is

Just another crappy political advertisement, which is basically a rip off from last time

Only slightly more cringy than Labours, which is like a car ad featuring Ardern looking like she drives round with a chauffeur

  18. It is what it is

Just another crappy political advertisement, which is basically a rip off from last time

Only slightly more cringy than Labours, which is like a car ad featuring Ardern looking like she drives round with a chauffeur

  19. It was a boring ad that said nothing. If that’s National’s strategy, they should ask for their money back.

  20. I have for some time been reminding myself that I must start sending you some cash to support you.It comes to the front of my mind and then it slips to the back of my mind…..it comes to the front of my mind and then it slips to the back of my mind……Thank You Martyn Thank You for coming up with such a brilliant headline that supporting you by sending you some bucks can never, ever slip to the back of my mind ever again.Even by your very consistent witty standards “The elitist smug pus that oozes from new National ad is symbolic of everything that is wrong about this country” hits the pimple right on the head!
