Bill English has always claimed that he had very little knowledge over the Todd Barclay spying scandal, despite originally denying any interaction, then admitting interaction, then claiming the tape might not exist, then admitting he had been offered to hear the tape that he just claimed might not exist, despite all that and despite the staff member being his former secretary, apparently Bill had very little to do with anything.

Really?

So why did Bill English send over 450 texts to the staff member?

It’s been revealed Bill English sent hundreds of text messages to his former electorate staffer Glenys Dickson in the months leading up to her resignation.

The Prime Minister has previously insisted he had limited knowledge of the dispute brewing between Clutha Southland MP Todd Barclay and Ms Dickson over alleged secret recordings, which resulted in her being paid out.

Not one to be upstaged by Labour’s leadership bomb, Winston Peters lobbed his own political hand grenade at the Prime Minister, outing Bill English’s text-fest with the former electorate staffer, right up until the day before she walked out.

“Why did he send over 450 texts to Glenys Dickson early in the morning and late in the night, 12 months before she resigned on February 7, 2016?”

English’s response was on high rotate: “No matter of ministerial responsibility so can’t comment on it any further.”

“Just the same answer.

“I don’t have any ministerial responsibility for that.”

Mr Peters was quick to respond: “What phone were you using if it’s of no matter to the taxpayer?”

It’s unclear what Bill English knew, and when, about the secret recordings, payout and resignation.

But according to Mr Peters the man who says he knew close to zero had been text-bombing Dickson – sending her 22 messages the day before she bailed out and more than 25 more the week after.

The Prime Minister has declined to comment.

Bill English has attempted to hide his involvement, hide his knowledge of what he knew, and hide when he knew it throughout this Barclay fiasco.

What is Bill English hiding?

  3. Whoa, that is more text messages than I would send in the whole year, I think, in such a short time.

    Only because the MSM were all over Labour’s new leaders and especially Jacinda today, did they seem to neglect this item.

    This must be reported on more tomorrow, on morning report, I’d say, it would be a journalist’s duty to do so and dig into this.

      It is surprising at first sight that Radio NZ, (and TVNZ and TV3) ignore Billy English’ extraordinary attention to Glenys.

      But you must realise that the toxic “Rat Pack” Gower, Garner, Soper, Espiner are died in the wool slaves to the wealthy corrupt National Party.

      There is no way these evil twisted journalists would raise any awkward question with a liar like Billy English.

  5. I wonder what the legal threshold is for accusing someone of perverting the course of justice or even just good old fashioned stalking/harassment?
    Then again it would seem National voters are not burdened with any sort of moral compass, so…whatever.

    (Which, incidentally makes it curious that the Labour and Greens are still declaring on RNZ that they are ‘after the National voters’..the very voters who in the face of APPALLING REALITY are STILL, this late in the game, voting National.

    I can’t begin to imagine what compromises are required to seduce these people.

      The cruel chaos the wealthy National scum have created for middle NZ and their children is utterly scandalous, Sickening. While they count their rotten wealth like filthy Middle Eastern Sheiks.

      Added and abetted by Gower, Garner, Soper and Espiner. Hosking too.

      If there is a change of Government it will be necessary to terminate the management of these Radio and TV stations along with the complete removal of Garner, Gower, Soper and Espiner and miserable Hosking.

      Government exists for all New Zealanders. Not just for grossly wealthy slobs or twisted journalists.

      Every normal person knows that.

  9. I’d like it to be something, but I’m doubtful. She was his closest staffer for over 20 years. I’m not surprised he keeps in regular contact with her. Even if it were something, unfortunately I doubt it would draw a single vote away from National.

  10. Is it possible that the tapes might contain some personal (intimate) conversations between Bill and the woman involved in being secretly recorded?

    Plus some 450 texts?

    Maybe Toddy has some info that could implicate Billy boy?

    Hush money paid out from the PM’s (Key) fund to keep the lid on things perhaps?

    Billy boy being vague about the issue, to protect himself and Natz?

    Hmm … the plot thickens!

  11. The whole affair is weird, God knows what Bill was up to,hardly sound behaviour .
    Shame the media is not overly interested, to engrossed with Jacinta future pregnancy I guess.
