So if the Greens sit down with NZ First in a Government after calling them racist – does that make the Greens hypocrites?

A racist at my table

Thinking more about the Greens new strategy of declaring war on NZ First, and it seems more and more like a terrible strategic blunder.

I’m watching my social media feeds full of NZ First supporters attacking Green Party supporters and Green Party supporters attacking NZ First supporters.

As I pointed out to a Green Party MP yesterday…

It’s going insane on social media, NZ First supporters are jumping Green supporters and Green Supporters are taking out NZ First supporters – you guys have unleashed a god damned social media war – what the fuck are you doing???

…so the reality is that activists from both political parties are going to rip each to pieces on social media and that will make it near impossible for any post election kiss and make up.

Winston is already using this attack by the Greens on his provincial jamboree tour and my understanding is that the Greens are all feeling wounded and sulky that their attack on Winston seems to have gotten such bad media attention.

Like it did when they decided to vote for the budget.

Like it did when they decided to run against Jacinda.

Like it did when they voted for Red Peak.

It’s like the Greens can’t think beyond 2 moves ahead.

So ultimately the question now becomes if the Greens sit down with NZ First in a Government after calling them racist – does that make the Greens hypocrites?

Because it kinda does doesn’t it?

Are the Greens saying that they are so crazed for power that they will sit down with racists just so they can get into Government?

Power crazed hypocrites and racists forming a Government based on mutual disrespect doesn’t sound very inspirational for the voters does it?

If Labour can’t form an alternative Government in September, that’s on the Green’s now and my understanding is that Labour strategists are privately furious at this latest Green Party fuck up.

The comment to me was “Are they (the Greens) doing this on purpose or are they actually stupid?”

Who can tell anymore?

  1. Mixed messages from those Green party folks eh Martyn.

Who in that party is going to step up and take ownership of their blunder?

We are sad that the party I joined in 1999 has now turned out this way, and no-one can clear this mess up now.

Winston is heads above the Green Party.

Today the Warrior of the north Winston began attacking the National Government again over them using nylon carpeting in all their buildings and why aren’t they supporting wool and the farmers now with a natural fibre and not a petroleum product!!!!!!!

Gosh Winston is now more Green than the modern Green party is!@!!!!!

Well done winston you’ll get many more votes there.

See last item on this podcast. Winston questions why Government don’t use wool carpets to support our sheep farmers. Brilliant.

“Winston is heads above the Green Party – and this call to use wool carpets a natural fibre over a (nylon) Petroleum produced carpet is just so brilliant.”

  2. I don’t disagree they are doing some stupid moves, but it doesn’t really make then hypocrites if they are part of a govt with a party they consider to have racist views. If they were part of a govt with NZ first they can water down these views and besides, such a coalition would be necessary to change the govt.

And it would be better than national and NZ first.

But man, they seem to enjoy shooting themselves in the feet

  3. For New Zealand and New Zealanders sake the Greens and NZF and Labour have to win against Nactional … together they need more votes than Nactional !

(…what proportion of vote each party gets is NOT the issue…this is why the Greens have fucked up yet again by attacking their coalition partners and NOT Nactional…the question is why?…is it an ego and power issue ?…or would they actually covertly prefer to go into coalition with Nactional?…are they actually now more Blue than Green ?or Red or Black? )

…they are doing Nactional’s job for them by attacking NZF as being racist!

In fact NZF has very good environmental / conservation/ outdoor recreation policies/transport/ electricity….all Green issues. The Greens should be applauding NZF…

…as well NZF wants to curb runaway Nact policies on immigration and buying up of NZ housing/NZ land /NZ assets.

…New Zealand is a small environmentally delicate country and New Zealanders can Not afford overseas ownership or a runaway immigrant population for environmental reasons …(as well as social welfare/health / education /housing of New Zealanders reasons)

    …this is NOT racism!

  4. Hmmm,… wondering if there is not a small group of fifth columnists in the Green party , … certainly does seem to be a move towards self destruction. A few National moles, perchance?

Someone whispering sweet nothings in someones ear and promising them the world and then after the damage is done walking off with a mocking laugh?…

  5. Yep, the Greens are way too reactive!

They need to calm down – a lot!

All the negative attention and name calling between the opposition parties helps National, slip on by, un noticed and win over the votes, while the opposition members lose votes by having voters boycotting voting.

Get a grip, Greens and NZ First! Focus on who has the majority of votes, that’s National, and stop scrapping over the voting crumbs.

  6. I love it how commentators on the left all agree we desperately need to change the government but then spend half their time attacking left wing parties. Small wonder we’re staring down a fourth term for National. Sigh.

  7. Christ Right-wing National Front Nazi supporters just love NZ First…what are the Greens meant to do, cuddle up to racists and bigots…Labour, of course, is still trying to break out of its rightwing neoliberalist mode by at least sounding leftwing [Sort of soft Tony Blair]. But I don’t know of any Alt-right supporters cuddling up to Labour [Thank God]. Give the Greens some credit, they are showing some guts and I know heaps of young people who suggest that they are the only party with any guts.

  8. They rightly assume that ex natboy Winston Peters will drag Labour further to the right than they already are.
Apart from getting rid of the nats what would another conservative govt achieve? SFA.
