Today’s Daily Blog Watch Round-Up of matters that have attracted the attention, assessments, and articulations of this country’s leading bloggers…

NZ Left Blogosphere

Simon Bridge’s comments on TVNZ’zs Q+A on 31st March has lit up the blogosphere like a demented Christmas Tree…

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

On Bowalley Road, Chris Trotter writes about The Paradox Of The Free Market, regarding  Simon Bridges’ assertion that,

The Government is proposing stronger measures to protect offshore petroleum and minerals activity from unlawful interference.”

Far from the power and authority of the  State being “curtailed”  in a supposedly free market – it is very much needed to protect vested interests from the anger of ordinary people (aka “non market players”).  Chris analyses National’s actions and makes some very compelling observations.

In No Right Turn, Idiot/Savant charges National with Outlawing dissent and calls the Minister on his denial that this is an attack of our right to dissent. Worserer and worserer, is the undemocratic method by which National is implementing this draconian new law.

On The Standard, Anthony Robins declares that National has put Democracy for sale with it’s proposed anti-protest legislation.  On top of this law being straight out of Putin’s Russia, there will be no opportunity for submissions to be made!

And The Jackal has this little contribution to National’s advancement of the new Police State; Petrobras amendment and extreme energy.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the blogosphere,

Tim Selwyn writes in Tumeke, about being on the brink of WW3, as things heat up on the Korean peninsula. See: NZ keeping the peace, keeping the war for his thoughts on the issue.

In The Hand Mirror, Stargazer writes about the odd phenonomen of female fans of Oscar Pistorius – see;  fandom gone wrong – and makes the intriguing observation that there has been no  public character assassination of  Reeva Steenkamp. (Contrast that to the orchestrated campaign of misogynistic hate heaped upon former partner Kristin Dunne-Powell, after Tony Veitch kicked her down a flight of stairs in a bout of rage, injuring her badly.)

Tim Watkin’s Labour’s GST-off policy could yet bear fruit on The Pundit, looks at Shearer’s decision to deep-six Labour’s policy to remove GST on fresh fruit and veg, and asks if that was the right call to make on this issue. Tim cites the recent public response to TV3’s The Vote as indicative that the public may view such issues as legitimate options, rather than the oh-so predicatable right-ring rhetoric of “nanny state! nanny state!”.

On Mars 2 Earth, Marty tells readers that land confiscation 2013 style is still very much in-vogue. The only thing is that The Establishment does it with more subtlety these days.  Parihaka is out – faux “consultation” is in.

On Waitakere News, Micky Savage writes about Labour’s Future; where it’s been; and where it might be heading…

On the quirky Whoar!, new zealand experiences a local echo of the sudden/unexplained sharp drop in international crime..and of course..the politicians/police again fall over themselves/each other to claim it is all down to them..(and why dosen’t the fourth-estate/media call them on these bullshit claims..?..) – achieves two things;

1. Posing a very simple question that the msm have been utterly blind to Collins’ crowing about crime stats

2. The longest blogpost title in recorded history?

On The Daily Blog

Continuing analysis of Simon Bridges’  Walk on the Wild Right Side, chatty-man Frank Macskasy complete’s National’s mining/drilling programme for New Zealand; Mining, Drilling, Arresting, Imprisoning – Simon Bridges

In Not coming home from work, Chris Flatt writes about the high rate of industrial/workplace accidents in this country.  Chris also tells us what we can do about it; what we must do about it.

In Defending The Revolution: Karl du Fresne Calls Radio NZ On Its “Left-Wing Bias”, Chris Trotter writes about National Party sycophant, Karl du Fresne, and his  attack on Radio NZ. Having read du Fresne’s piece, Chris is on the mark with his response. (The irony here is that if Radio NZ presents an anti-National “voice”, it’s because National Ministers choose not to front up for interviews. They’re too gutless to defend their crappy policies.)

Ronald wants to re-introduce youth wages, writes  Mike Treen, and relate’s the fast-food industry’s attempt to cut wages for their workers. Courtesy of National, of course.

Blogpost of the Week

On the Daily Blog, Coley Tangerina writes about Polyamorous marriage – essentially telling the religious bigots, “So F*****g What”? She writes a persuasive analysis of the issue. Which is interesting, as New Zealanders would be damn well surprised just how wide-spread polyamourous relationships and families are in this country. The best part though, is Tom’s response below Coley’s main piece, where he panics that polyamorists are going to steal his girlfriend… *rolls eyes*

Enjoy!
