Peace activist urges government to reject US proposal to help reopen Strait of Hormuz
A peace activist is urging the New Zealand government to reject a US proposal to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The shipping route has been largely blocked by Iran since February, causing the price of oil to soar.
Peace Action Wellington spokesperson Valerie Morse feared New Zealand’s involvement would be an endorsement of the conflict.
“We are of the view that the responsibility for the situation sits squarely with the United States and Israel,” she said.
“Their illegal and unprovoked war was the catalyst for the situation, and an end to the war is what will resolve the situation.”
A spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters said New Zealand had received “initial and preliminary information”.
“We are in the process of asking questions and seeking more information about this preliminary proposal.
“Accordingly, we are not close to a point where the New Zealand government would be making any decisions about it.”

The idea that there is any possibility of something as horrific that happening demands the Strait is opened now.

Why New Zealand must stay out of the Iran war

NOOOOOOOO QUESTION that the Strait of Hormuz must be opened immediately to offset any famine of this magnitude.

We didn’t do this.
We didn’t start an illegal, ill thought out war!
We didn’t kill the Ayatollah’s family and advisors.
We didn’t bomb that girls school.
We haven’t agreed with Israel exporting their genocide from Gaza to Lebanon.
We didn’t kill journalists using double tap tactics.
We didn’t f**k up as magnificently as Trump has.

While it is absolutely true that the Strait must be opened, it is also true that there is no military option short of nuking the entire Iranian Coastline, and seeing as that can’t be an option, Trump and Israel must surrender to Iran.
- They must give Iran compensation for the damage their bombing campaign has caused.
- They must lift all economic sanctions on Iran.
- They must lift their blockade on Iran.
- They must agree to cease all military acts.
- They must leave Iran’s proxies alone and immediately withdraw from Lebanon and allow aid into Gaza.
THEN and ONLY THEN, the Strait reopens.
What global efforts should be aimed at right now is not attempting to force our way into the Strait, we should be forcing America and Israel to agree to Iran’s demands!

As it stands today companies shipping oil to NZ can pay the Hormuz toll to Iran. It is our very, very good friend USA blocking mideast oil and fertiliser coming to NZ.
And our soverignity is not strong enough to buy cheap Russian oil.

Breaking shit IS the point Martyn. The chances of Trump or Americas proxy terrorist state, Israel, fixing anything are exactly zero. There is too much money involved in burning the world to ash, than there is in promoting peaceful coexistence, and mutual prosperity. This is not a disaster or a quagmire for the “people who matter”, this is disaster capitalism on steroids, and they love it. The pain of the Palestinians, the Lebanese, the Iranians, and yes, even us as we deal with tanking economies, job losses, food insecurity, and the break down of social cohesion, mean nothing to these people. There are profits to be made, and by God, they will make them.
What can we expect in the future? More of the same. After all, we live in consequence free times, and War Crimes, Crimes against Humanity are now normalised. This won’t end until the perpetrators have to pay for their crimes, sure Trump and Netanyahu have to answer for their abhorrent decisions, but so do the Silicon Valley Tech Bros who build the AIs which target girl schools, Hospitals and “double tapping” first responders, the New England Weapons Barons who build the Missiles, the Bombs, and the Wall Street scum that finance the carnage. And the chances of this happening are close to zero.
Only total morons, i.e. Trump and Netanyahu, would not see the common sense in the steps the TDB has written are necessary for the Hormuz Straits to be reopened. Our whole world is being turned upside down by a lunatic USA President and a murderous, barbaric Israeli PM. Why is our pathetically weak world sitting on their hands, just watching and waiting? If T & N are incapable of taking this action, then both must GO now.
