The crisis engulfing the globe seems to be on a trajectory towards levels of economic decline not seen since the Great Depression of the 1930s. At that time unemployment surged to levels of 20 or more percent in the capitalist world, including New Zealand.
Hi Guys – good to get your texts and the odd phone call – hope you’re all adapting to this unusual time. Well, since I’m probably home most of the time, it’s not really that unusual for me, but it is hard for Mum because she loves to get out and about with her mates – and away from me.
I can honestly claim to be the one that spotted Boris was out of sorts the other day. He doesn’t look too good to me, I ventured. The stress must be getting to him.
Today I look back to the Great Depression of the 1930’s to see what lessons can be learned to get our economy working after the pandemic is under control.
