Why are we fighting Firefighters?

New Zealand firefighters are once again taking industrial action, raising serious questions about why frontline emergency workers are still fighting for resources, pay and support in a time of growing climate-driven risk.
Why are firefighters still on strike?
Look.
I’m very busy. We all are!
Frontline workers we should never take for granted
I tend to juggle my busy day by not paying attention to dumb sh!t that I know will get settled, because the situation demands it and try to have some faith in my fellow human beings to do the right thing, which is why I really haven’t paid any attention whatsoever to the ongoing New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union (NZPFU) industrial action. I simply assumed, ‘whatever-the-issue-is-give-the-bloody-firefighters-what-it-is-they-want-and-then-some-thanks’, because when it comes to actual heroes in society, they are in some of our few!
Teachers, nurses, doctors, ambulance drivers, dispatchers and firefighters, these are people who deserve our gratitude for their public service.
Six months of industrial action with no resolution
I simply assumed that the Industrial action the firefighters keep having would have been solved by now, yet here we are with another rolling strike on Monday!
This has been going on for bloody six months now!
Firefighters deserve proper funding and support
Firefighters run into danger on your worst day – whatever they want – give it to them!
I’m astounded that people who actually risk their lives daily aren’t given the equipment they need to do the job for crying out loud.
It’s Fire and Emergency!
Climate change is increasing the demand on emergency services
We have all seen the impact of climate change and how it is causing far more emergencies, this force will be needed more now than ever before – why are they facing cutbacks?
If you refuse to be real about methane and subsidising public transport, then surely you have to fund the services who have to clean the ramifications of those policy decisions up?
Why is the Government fighting firefighters?
Why are we fighting firefighters?

A lot of the public understand fire fighters work 4days on 4days off 12 hour shifts and often have a part time business running on their 4 days off and no one begrudges them extra good coin because some time in the future they may run into a fire and save you.
When they picket for 1 hour a week outside the firestation 95% of passing car drivers are honking their support.
There is one big plank standing in the way of fair fire fighters remuneration alongside nurses and teachers and that’s Plank Van Velden who some very seasoned fire fighters would dismiss her in an instant in a debate given what they are qualified to do and what she is unqualified in.
Because the Govt are a pack of assholes and destroying everything they touch.
