Government’s response to oil crisis is pathetic – they are not preparing for worst-case scenario

The Government’s response to the escalating fuel crisis — driven by conflict involving Donald Trump and Iran — is being criticised as dangerously complacent, with little evidence of preparation for a genuine worst-case scenario in New Zealand.
Government shifts messaging as fuel crisis worsens
NZ ‘preparing for a worst case scenario’ as fuel crisis deepens
The Government’s messaging on the fuel crisis driven by the conflict in Iran has shifted from tempering concerns to “preparing for a worst case scenario”.
Speaking to reporters from Parliament on Thursday, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said “things could get worse before they actually get better”.
That was a stark shift from statements made earlier this week, when Luxon said New Zealand was “really well positioned with respect to fuel supply”.

Why the Government’s response is being criticised
Bullshit!
This was the Foreign Minister of NZ barely a week ago…

…turns out Peters is full of shit and if this weird optimism is being shared by the rest of the Government, you understand why they haven’t planned for anything because they were all hoping for this to resolve itself.
This isn’t leadership, it’s incompetence.
How the Iran conflict is driving the fuel crisis
Iran’s only red line was not to kill their holy man.
Trump and Israel’s opening move (right after bombing those school girls) was to murder Iran’s holy man.
Trump and Israel just killed the new Ayatollah’s brother, wife, son and dad, so why would he want to do anything to help Trump right now?
Why critics say New Zealand is unprepared
Why would this Government misread something so obvious to the rest of us?
I’m no PhD student of psychology, but killing someone’s wife, dad, son and brother seems like it might inspire a grudge in someone, apparently this is news to Winston.
This Government refuse to help you in a war, you had no hand in making while refusing to criticise Trump and Israel from starting this illegal war!
They are paralysed with inaction because they criticised Labour for acting during Covid and are now too frightened to do anything!
What real emergency measures could look like
Working from home mandates, lowering the road speeds from 100km/h to 80km/h and making public transport free would be solutions, tinkering with working for families is not a solution.
This isn’t leadership, this is cowardice!
Preparing for the worst-case scenario doesn’t mean talking about it — it means acting before it arrives. Right now, the Government looks like it’s doing neither.

We already know they have fucked this up.
They could’ve immediately made public transport free. They could’ve easily reinstated the clean-car discount. They could’ve easily subsidised domestic solar and batteries.
Their clusterfluxon comes from lack of brave, bold preparation while niavely hoping for the best.
Again, imagine if these CoC idiots were in charge during COVID – tens of thousands would’ve died.
What is the cost of a crisis?
The covid crisis required $60billion of govt spending.
This petrol crisis in a few weeks could be unavailability of petrol. Cutting petrol tax or subsidising petrol thats heading for $10/litre* wont increase the supply. Rationing by price is obviously not going to be a Fair Go.
*The first oil shock in 1973 oil quadupled in price and no one was destroying oil infrastructure. NZ petrol price a month a go was $2.50 its now $4.00
For $60 billion the country could convert half the NZ car fleet to electric. Do a China deal and import 2 million EVs at $30,000 each.
You just need to hear the clowns on ZB and their “thoughts” to understand the deep stupidity of this country.
“I can’t work from home, why should they be allowed to?”
“There is no public transport in my locale, why should they get free bus trips?”.
Because it will mean more fuel is available for you thicky!
And if demand is reduced, prices should increase more slowly.
This is not a difficult thing to understand, unless you’re a fucking childish dickhead.
This CoC can’t plan ahead – they live on ‘hope’ and simply don’t have MP’s with the skills or acumen. You only have to look at the majority of the CoC policies within the past two years to see they never research thoroughly, are not at all transparent, don’t ask for relevant feedback, so knee-jerk what suits them at the time! That is why they must go, come Nov! Everyone of them is only in there for themselves and their egos. NZ has never ever had such an inept, miserable bunch in its entire political history!
Cluxon, the tabloid prime minister. Always looking for the easy way out. Unable to solve difficult problems because he’s never had to.
Don’t depend on him and Willis to guide us through this crisis well. Let alone get us back on the tracks they rabbit on about.
Focussed, yes, on their donors. Not us.
