‘It will come’: PM promises brighter economic future for cities
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is promising economic growth will come to cities including Auckland and Wellington, betting on major infrastructure projects to help them catch up with the regions.
“We’re going to continue to do everything we can to drive economic activity into the cities in particular. It will come,” he said.
Luxon described the “two-speed” economic recovery that has left urban centres lagging behind the regions, as rural economies benefit from strong global demand for meat, dairy products and horticultural products. He promised a refreshed focus on urban centres.
“I appreciate it’s tough in the cities across New Zealand at the moment, particularly Auckland, Wellington. Christchurch is doing well, but that is a function of just the two-speed recovery that we’re coming through.”

The economic pain we are going through has been induced by National’s slash and burn campaign last year. That bitter harvest of losing 18000 jobs in the construction industry, 30 000 jobs over all and 70 000 fleeing to Australia IS DIRECTLY BECAUSE OF NATIONAL PARTY ECONOMIC POLICY!
They crashed the economy and now promise growth based on bullshit held together by nothing more than snot and hope.

Infrastructure projects underpin much of the Government’s urban recovery strategy. Luxon pointed to wharf upgrades and the City Rail Link as projects which would drive growth in Auckland.

Upgrading the wharf so the bloated swine palaces have easy access is not a fucking solution. Dumping a whole host of rich Cruise Ship tourists into a downtown that looks like Gaza in a good day, strewn with the homeless is going to benefit some of the lucre shops at the bottom of Queens street.
The Fucking City Rail Loop won’t be finished until 2027 and ripping up train crossings to the tune of $800m and pretending that will create road efficiencies is fucking ludicrous.
You want road efficiencies?
Cut the price of public transport in half and watch all the Aucklanders get out of their cars and take huge numbers of vehicles off the road.
Auckland unemployment is 6.2% and 11.5% for Māori, the Housing Market has crashed crushing the middle classes and the never ending fiasco of pitiful infrastructure upgrades using the cheapest means possible has gridlocked Auckland so much so that even the homeless are stuck in congestion.
Nothing this Government is doing is helping anything other than their donor mates.
National are a rural cult, they hate the cities and the cities are suffering.
Why should central Government invest more money directly? Because the Government are the ones who have driven the mass immigration that has totally swamped Auckland’s capacity to pay for!
Wait until Aucklanders comprehend what Wayne Brown’s mass surveillance congestion charges will do.

Imagine the economy if we were still building those 35000 state houses that were in the pipeline around NZ .Auckland could be employing 1000 construction workers on the light rail project for which land was bought .Then the first of our new ferries would be arriving this year and using the new future proofed ports and moving more freight faster .
All Luxon can come up with is we need to lower interest rates and raise house prices .Clearly he is taking a hit on his remaining houses .But he is entitled to take that hit because he has fucked the economy .
