I am no fan of Candace Owens, she’s another contrarian right wing conspiracy theorist grifter, but the reason why NZ has banned her from coming into NZ is gutless!
The ban isn’t that she is a threat or that she represents some hate crime, the ban is ‘Because Australia banned her’.
OH. COME. ON!
If she is a threat (and I don’t believe she is) then Free Speech protects her right of entry and ability to speak here. If you don’t like her, it’s your right to protest outside where she is speaking, but banning her just because Australia did is pathetic!
Trump’s landslide tells us what happens when you gag and censor free speech, we should not fear debate, we should encourage it for Christ’s sake!
This is a gutless move and needs reflection. If Candace is really a threat, name it or look for assurances when she speaks here like in a secure venue. Her freedom to speak requires more than ‘Australia banned her so we will”, come on.
That’s a childish response to an adult issue.
Again, I’m no fan of hers, but she has a right to speak and standing up for that is a deeper political and philosophical value that strengthens us all if we rise with it.
Free Speech isn’t a left wing or right wing thing, it’s an us thing.

Banning somebody because Australia did is pathetic.
Banning somebody won’t change viewpoints which one disagrees with. Listening, and robust discussion, and debate, are much more constructive than blocking ears.
And since when was the Immigration Dept New Zealand’s censor ? These are the irresponsible dumbos who prioritised DJ’s over doctors and nurses during the pandemic and they cannot be relied upon to make reasonable decisions.
Banning Candace will help restore trust in public institutions – yeah, right.
I mean, the reason that she was banned is that she criticized the genocide of the human population of Palestine, not ‘Australia’ or some of her whacky conspiracy theories about COVID and so on and so forth. You can tell that Deborah Hart, a strong supporter of the genocidal ‘israeli’ regime, is holding the whip hand.

I had forgotten about Candace until I read this article.
The reason maybe gutless, but its pretty effin amusing at the same time. I was not expecting that. Still, when governments work primarily for special interests, rather than people interests – as is now the case today – then free speech becomes an issue for them. This is just one more example, one more indicator of the fascist road we are all on…thankfully for them, most of us don’t give a flying rats arse anyway.

It just plays into her hands. If we let her in to speak, everyone would have yawned, had no idea who she was and not given her one iota of attention. But now they’ve banned her, it’s all over the news and she has got 100x the publicity she would have otherwise got!
