ACTs Treaty Principles Referendum vanity project will cost $4.1m while they are amputating everyone else’s budgets!
This farcical vanity project of ACT’s is going to cost over $4million at a time when this Government is slashing public service budgets…
“CTU calculations showing the Government is likely to waste over $4 million on a bill it doesn’t even plan to pass is farcical, given they’ve spent the best part of a year telling everyone else to tighten their belts,” Labour Leader Chris Hipkins said.
“The CTU points out this money could pay for 40 nurses, except the government’s put a hiring pause in place, while trainee nurses struggle to find hospital placements.
“It could buy a lot of lunches for school kids, yet the government and David Seymour in particular made a big song and a dance about cutting that programme back to save money.
“The $4 million estimate for the cost to the taxpayer is conservative and doesn’t take into account a lot of the work likely to have to be done by various agencies. It also doesn’t count any of the time, money and energy the submitters themselves will have to put in to be heard on a bill that Christopher Luxon says is divisive and won’t get his party’s support later anyway.
…adding insult to injury is the news that ACT’s Red-tape ministry has spent $410,000 on consultants!
It’s less a Ministry and more a Palace at this stage.
Why is it that ACT’s race baiting vanity project is allowed to cost $4million and their Red Tape cutting Palace blowing half a million on consultants and spending more than any other public service…
New ministry paying staff average salary of $150k despite public sector job cuts
The new Ministry for Regulation has more than 90 staff paid an average salary of more than $150,000, new figures reveal.
That is despite the coalition pledging to slash back-office spendingacross the public sector and attacking the former government for creating massive bureaucracies.
The anti-red tape department is overseen by ACT leader David Seymour, who secured its creation during coalition negotiations last year.
Figures obtained by the Green Party – and first reported by The Post – reveal a median salary at the agency of $154,500, well above the public service median of $84,800.
…this hypocrisy is astounding.
The Party who complains about any public spending is blowing millions on a divisive race baiting political stunt that will go no where while bloating their own Red Tape cutting vanity project with bucket loads of public service cream.

Cant wait for the new ferries to turn up in 2050 ,thats how long it will take these idiots to get them and they will be bath tub toys because they will never get as good a deal as we had .Who will want to do a deal with these people in the near future .Like the new roads Brown spouts about that are at least 10 years away if we can even get people to build them .Like the ferries the government will cancel the contracts if they ever get around to signing one .What we clearly need is a totally independent body ,similar to the reserve bank, that is in charge of all infrastucture work that the politicians can not interfere with on a daily basis .

Seymour argues these people are on the payroll anyway, so it’s not an additional cost. While that is not incorrect he’s an idiot for basically saying they can waste months of work for a bill they know won’t pass. This coming from the wankers who have cut things for being “nice to haves”. Alternatively he’s saying both his partners are liars.
Democracy has a cost and while 4 million is a lot of money it is not a lot when you look at the country’s total budget.
Surely it is good to have the Treaty explained as it was not taught in schools in the past and those like me who are immigrants find it hard to follo what it means to Maori
It is not democracy when a party gets 8% of a vote achieved only by disguising their massive financial backing by millionaires and billionaires combined with their and National’s corruption of the electoral system.
ACT’s devious, dishonest, dubious, behaviour in Parliament is simply a reflection of how they operated to get there in the first place!

If the CTU’s estimate is correct, $4m is an extravagant waste fixing a problem invented by a minor party. I voted against MMP. Whether it’s ACT, the Greens or TPM, they are all out of touch fringe grandstanders.
