National, Labour clash over who’s lying about pay equity changes
The Prime Minister and Opposition leader are in a political feud over who is lying about the overhaul of the pay equity regime.
Last week’s surprise law change raises the threshold for workers to prove they’ve been paid poorly as a result of sex discrimination.
The move will save the government billions of dollars – which would’ve otherwise gone to increased wages.
Labour’s been calling that a pay cut, but National’s Chris Bishop, the party’s attack dog and previous campaign manager, said that’s just not true and the Labour Party has “crossed the line into outright lies”.
Bishop issued a press release ahead of his party’s caucus meeting at Parliament on Tuesday morning accusing Labour of “lying about our changes to pay equity to avoid talking about their own flawed approach”.
The argument put up by National is Labour are liars because they are calling the deplorable destruction of the Pay Equity system as a pay cut.
National’s ridiculous counter claim is that because this money that was due to be paid out wasn’t paid out, it wasn’t really a pay cut.
Can you believe that?
National are robbing 500 000 workers of a pay rise tomorrow and pretending that future mugging doesn’t exist because the money was stolen before workers could claim it.
The process to get a pay equity deal across the line demanded rigorous and serious claims, and there were 33 of those ready for negotiation, what National did was throw all of that in the bin, start again and reset the thresholds to ensure it was far more difficult to lodge a claim and get it heard.
There is no way you can pretend that isn’t stealing the pay rises of 500 000 workers!
National are taking today what tomorrow never brings and the way they have all wallowed as Karen victims over Andrea Vance’s righteous use of the c word to describe what they have done is made more pathetic because the Right Wing are supposed free speech champions.
National have destroyed the pay rises of 500 000 mostly working women (and men who work in those industries) and pretended they didn’t just rob you.
Unbelievable.
The deceit required to believe National, ACT or NZF is too much of a farce to be believed.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.
not 1 person got a pay cut. if they dont like it then get a job in the private sector.
And that’s the thing Trumpet. The state sector unions were using pay equity to get pay rises through the back door. National has stopped filling the state union trough.
Great, everyone then works in the private sector. The Federated Farmers union has funded National to fill it’s coffers. Unions are why people are able to have conditions they work in today. You’d all be happy with sweat shops wouldn’t you?
