Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. NZ has low horizons for the nation and by politicians holding down their thumbs for so many decades on our actual aspirations, they are now ashpirations – got squashed. So we keeping pointing out things that are wrong according to our reason, reasonable expectations, and trend of past historic efforts towards making a good place for citizens, well we are wasting our time. It just sounds like a dire lot of diatribes by losers.

‘You don’t like what we’ve got here and it doesn’t work for you, well you are a loser and perhaps you should go to some other country that will have you or where you can do better!’ Many colonials came from poor conditions to get a better life. But a real better life means to learn how lives are made better in more than material effects and apply those lessons with hands-on care.

We actually had to do different things than other countries to have good lives as a result, to improve on the past. But apparently you have to fight for better things and change systems and make sure that these are regularly reviewed, and there is an agreed system that encourages everyone to learn how to live up to their own superior potential and enable people to put forward ideas, considered and then implemented perhaps as pilots and monitored for effectiveness and disadvantages then cost, economic aspects. Being encouraged to think and take part in our society will enable it to keep strong and good. and meet society’s needs and those aspirations we should have.

We thought we could sit back; we had succeeded at some things, we were good, but not good or sensible enough. Old age pensions are good, but not expecting the retired to still be engaged on part-time or volunteer basis, to be putting some little back for the big advantages they get. No-one should be an easy rider, getting, complaining when service isn’t provided like some self-centred rich person which is majorly the case now. A very lop-sided society we have, and only a last-minute lightning strike may occur and start up brains that are apparently set in concrete; or perhaps amber and which may be dug up in future aeons and studied! …Auckland Council has issued a Dangerous Building Notice for the City Gardens Apartments on Albert Street.
The building’s management said they were short more than $30 million needed for long-term fixes to some fire hazards and recladding…

…The building has not had a warrant of fitness since 2017, with the council issuing a number of notices to fix (NFTs) and infringement fines as a result.
In August 2023, the council said it carried out an audit on the building after being notified by Fire and Emergency New Zealand of fire safety issues.

The primary concern was the car park stairs being open to potential car fires which could block the way of the apartment building.
The audit was followed up with a meeting with the body corporate, where the issues were discussed and actions were undertaken immediately to avoid a Dangerous Building Notice.

Earlier this month, FENZ reported to the council that a sprinkler had been set off in the building without triggering the building alarm or notifying fire crews.
This incident, as well as a follow up inspection by the council and FENZ, led the council to conclude the building met the threshold of a dangerous building….

These buildings where the owners have agreed to be represented by a body corporate instead of keeping their right to have meetings to discuss matters arising re the building are most unwise. You may end up with a reasoned body corp or not. It is a fairly small clause in a longish document but a so important one. Better not to buy or even lease, renting may be better. But the present climate for housing in NZ is not positive.

    Remember: Grenfell Tower fire (London)
    Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Grenfell_Tower_fire
On 14 June 2017, a high-rise fire broke out in the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block of flats in North Kensington, West London, at 00:54 BST and burned for 60 …

  3. Would someone write a piece about how to have a ‘State Advances type loan scheme’ with a fixed rate for a number of years to approved people. Also why can’t we have state housing of adequate type divided into areas with different needs. This relying on private stuff or PPP is not suitable for basics like housing. You can’t run a country where the wages are kept low, the housing ia allowed to go high in height and price and consider it is okay to sit back and wash your hands with soap that is not even made in NZ. Who do these pollies think they are?
