UN Human Rights Chief deplores new moves to expand

Israeli settlements in Occupied West Bank

https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2024/03/un-human-rights-chief-deplores-new-moves-expand-israeli-settlements-occupied

On 8 March, the UN Human Rights Chief, Volker Türk, described mounting Israeli settlement building in Occupied Palestine as an exacerbation of “long-standing patterns of oppression, violence and discrimination against Palestinians”. In a report to the Human Rights Council, Türk said that the establishment and continuing expansion of settlements amount to the transfer by Israel of its own civilian population into the territories that it Occupies, which amounts to a war crime under international law. The UN Human Rights Chief noted that “settler violence and settlement-related violations have reached shocking new levels”.

Israel’s Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who also serves as a minister inside the Defence Ministry, recently declared Palestinian land to be”state-owned” Israeli land. Speaking for Israel, Smotrich claims that Israel has a right to Occupied Palestinian West Bank territory, referring to “our right to Judea and Samaria and the country in general“.

How can anyone pretend that Israel will ever accept the ‘two-state’ solution?! From the very beginning, Zionism regarded the establishment of Israel, in 1948, as the first vital step in the acquisition of the whole of Palestine.

Ilan Pappé, a professor at the University of Exeter, was formerly a senior lecturer in political science at the University of Haifa and is the author of The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. He explains to those who still hold on to a belief in Zionism that there is, and always has been, a rational and just alternative: “de-Zionised, liberated and democratic Palestine from the river to the sea; a Palestine that will welcome back the refugees and build a society that does not discriminate on the basis of culture, religion or ethnicity.

Leslie Bravery is a Londoner with vivid World War Two memories of the Nazi blitz on his home town. In 1947/1948 His father explained to him what was happening to the Palestinians thus: “Any ideology or political movement that creates refugees in the process of realising its ambitions must be inhuman and should be opposed and condemned as unacceptable.” What followed confirmed this assessment of the Zionist entity a hundredfold. Now a retired flamenco guitarist, with a lifelong interest in the tragedy of what happened to the Palestinian people, he tries to publicise their plight. Because the daily injustices they suffer barely get a mention in the mainstream news media, Leslie edits/compiles a daily newsletter, In Occupied Palestine, for the Palestine Human Rights Campaign. These days, to preserve his sanity, he enjoys taking part in a drama group whenever possible!

  1. Another bit of interesting Jewish information to fill in the yawning void of some!

    https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/11/henry-ford-anti-semitism/675911/
In late 1922, The New York Times reported the “rumor” passing through Berlin that Henry Ford was bankrolling Adolf Hitler and his curiously well-funded Nazi movement. The wall of Hitler’s office featured a large picture of the American mogul, the Times noted, and copies of a book bearing Ford’s byline littered a table in the anteroom. Titled The International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem, the volume was an anthology of articles published by Ford’s Dearborn Independent newspaper, which two years earlier had launched an unrelenting crusade to expose Jews’ supposed “financial and commercial control, usurpation of political power, monopoly of necessities, and autocratic direction of the very news that the American people read.” The series, which eventually spanned 92 issues over seven years, concluded that the “International Jew and his satellites” lurked behind virtually all of the world’s ills: labor unrest, Bolshevism, financial panics, wars…

Bet you didn’t know that. There is always something behind the something you have just heard on the news that helps to give some depth to the new info; don’t you think?
The Atlantic is good. Maybe someone not as impecunious as myself would like to take out a sub and feed morsels to the hungry fledglings in the nest? (Does this count as being within Goodwin’s law?)
