  1. Coutts claims the level of care taken around local wildlife has added considerable costs to staging the event at Lyttelton.

“I find it astonishing the amount of influence iwi have over the authorities here in New Zealand,” he said. “The Department of Conservation would not allow racing in Lyttelton, unless SailGP had approval from the iwi – I suspect most New Zealanders don’t realise the full implications of such a stance.

We do Russell. They care about the environment, native species and wildlife. You care about money. That is why Act and their donors and business mates want to get rid of Iwi from the decision making process.

    • Wrong, Russell cares more for boats and sport than money. Having been educated in the system where you learn a lot of stuff that is well-regarded but not much fun you find your passion, sailing (criteria – must be good bucks in it) and your boat rises out of the fiat world – that’s the dream. The magic fairy changes your toddler toy boat of childhood into a scientific racing machine and the seawater into liquid gold, Any down-side is collaterral damage.

      • He should just stop whining. Whined all day. The neighbour’s granddad got like that. I sometimes wonder if they had him put away.

      • A $5m pay cheque saw him switch allegiance from Team NZ to Alinghi, and then another $5m pay cheque saw him move to Team Oracle, (both backed by Billionaires). Russell follows the money, and the monied.
Now it is the SailGP CEO salary and monied backers of SailGP talking. So I would say money is at least of equal importance to him, (especially in his later years), as the sailing.

      • Coutts is a self-entitled prick who is draining the local stream to keep his private golf course lush. User pays for water suits the rich as they can take as much as they like they have the money to pay for it, now is this fair.

  2. Russell needs to tack his tacky way up to Wellington and demonstrate in Parliament grounds again, complete with chisel-jawed photo op, toothpaste teeth, and arrogance of the entitled.

    • Well said.
We need dolphins more than we need Coutts and his merry band of ignoramuses.

Good thing the Iwi had lots of say which is why we need the Treaty. It protects us from the money loving desecraters who think they have the right to wreck everything.

The sea is quite big Russell, go and use another bit.

      • Joy. I’ve not followed this Russell issue particularly closely, but thought him dumping on Maori was pathetic, as well as insulting to fairly responsible Cantabrians involved in the decision making here. He’s been around long enough to know nothing’s that simple.

It does come across as spoilt brat behaviour which he’s too old to be indulging in. Christchurch has been through enough recently, and the whole country is fed up with entitled public figures. Pox on the lot of them.

Auckland can have him. Timaru could probably do with a few economic benefits, but I have a fondness for places in the shadows of our magnificent Southern Alps, so he best bugger off elsewhere. Maybe Monaco. Ha ha.
