Hands up who thinks Boeing murdered the whistleblower?

Boeing whistleblower John Barnett found dead, coroner suspects suicide

A former Boeing manager who raised safety questions about the aircraft maker was found dead outside a hotel in the US state of South Carolina, according to local authorities.

The body of John Barnett, 62, was found on Saturday in a car outside a Holiday Inn, and the Charleston County Coroner’s Office said the fatal injuries appeared to be self-inflicted. The Louisiana resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police in Charleston said detectives were waiting for a formal determination of the cause of death and “any additional findings that might shed further light on the circumstances surrounding” the end of Barnett’s life. Police noted “the global attention this case has garnered”.

Suicide eh?

Problem with the Suicide theory is that John Barnett clearly told friends he would never commit suicide…

‘If anything happens, it’s not suicide’: Boeing whistleblower’s prediction before death

A close family friend of John Barnett said he predicted he might wind up dead and that a story could surface that he killed himself.

But at the time, he told her not to believe it.

“I know that he did not commit suicide,” said Jennifer, a friend of Barnett’s. “There’s no way.”

Jennifer said they talked about this exact scenario playing out. However, now, his words seem like a premonition he told her directly not to believe.

“I know John because his mom and my mom are best friends,” Jennifer said. “Over the years, get-togethers, birthdays, celebrations and whatnot. We’ve all got together and talked.”

When Jennifer needed help one day, Barnett came by to see her. They talked about his upcoming deposition in Charleston. Jennifer knew Barnett filed an extremely damaging complaint against Boeing. He said the aerospace giant retaliated against him when he blew the whistle on unsafe practices.

For more than 30 years, he was a quality manager. He’d recently retired and moved back to Louisiana to look after his mom.

“He wasn’t concerned about safety because I asked him,” Jennifer said. “I said, ‘Aren’t you scared?’ And he said, ‘No, I ain’t scared, but if anything happens to me, it’s not suicide.'”

Jennifer added: “I know that he did not commit suicide. There’s no way. He loved life too much. He loved his family too much. He loved his brothers too much to put them through what they’re going through right now.”

Jennifer said she thinks somebody “didn’t like what he had to say” and wanted to “shut him up” without it coming back to anyone.

The last time Jennifer saw Barnett was at her father’s funeral in late February. He was one of the pallbearers. Sometimes family and friends referred to him by his middle name – Mitch.

“I think everybody is in disbelief and can’t believe it,” Jennifer said. “I don’t care what they say, I know that Mitch didn’t do that.”

Just because Barnett is dead doesn’t mean the case won’t move forward.

His attorney said they’re still prepared to go to trial in June.

News 4 reached out to Boeing following Barnett’s death. They provided the following statement:

“We are saddened by Mr. Barnett’s passing, and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

…I’m sure a giant Corporation about to be fined billions for shoddy cost cutting measures would have no reason whatsoever to kill a Whistleblower about to expose them.

It’s funny how a whistleblower about to expose Boeing suddenly dies and none of us blink.

This is what we expect now, this is Late Stage Capitalism corruption in the age of consequences.

  1. Pretty embarrassing that our flag carrier is continuing Christopher Luxon’s mistake of buying unsafe 787s instead of A350s.

    • Mohammed….Luxon stepped down as Air NZ CEO 5yrs ago 2019, only 4 major airlines primarily use A350s (Qatar/Singapore/Cathay/Air China) A359s were only introduced/available since 2015.

Nice to add in Luxon though, would you introduce a new airliner, untested commercially, in the first year or two of being in service?
Kinda sums up why you run a dairy and not an airline I guess!

  2. “About to expose them”. I would say the hearings over the two 737 max crashes exposed them. That was all you needed to see. Basically ‘we won’t tell them about fundamental changes so we don’t have to train the customer’s pilots’. Is this what de regulation and the “market” do for airplane manufacturing?

  3. It’s one way to get the story out there, people kill themselves for causes all the time.

He knew this would happen and took no precautions? Yeah, right.

  4. I hope the investigation into his death will be thorough and unbiased. There used to be the saying “If it ain’t Boeing, I ain’t going”. This once great company, previously run by engineers, has been brought down by accountants, after the merger with Douglas, whose main aim was to raise the stock price. But to do something as potentially discoverable as an assassination is so utterly stupid as to seem, surely, they wouldn’t be so stupid. What is left of their reputation would be so shattered.
I once visited their plant at Renton, a shortish bus ride from Seattle. Very impressive; I think it’s the biggest building, by area, in the world. And it has, as I recall the guide said, the steepest bit of railway track in the country coming up to the building, where parts got railed from around the US to be assembled here. Fun fact.

  5. Recent history has produced many far more worrying events that have been explained away by the impossible conclusions of official inquiry, but cowered by a trained chorus of rehearsed ridicule that any questioning of them attracts, the mighty become mice.
