Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. Now hear this. Now hear this.

An interesting morning, both listening and reading.
No doubt RNZ’s chief cheerleader will be along shortly (not looking at you @ Grey. I’m the deputy). RNZ’s not perfect and there’s a fair bit to dislike, but it’s among the best ‘spaces’ we have left (going forward)
RNZ Saturday (so far i.e. 8am to 10am)).
And then, surprisingly a post by Advantage, “News and New Zealand Democracy”. (Weka seems to be asleep at the moment thankfully). I’m also a fan of clever clogs Jurgen Habermas. Theory and practice of, and in the Public Sphere Lord Reith remains relevant as well PROVIDED you make allowances for the fact he was breathing oxygen at a time when society was much more homogenised and diversity not so much on his mind.

    That is all

  2. I think this is the right link for some startling, almost pornographic figures, that have downward curves. It may well get your full attention.
    Hamish Hodder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieMSgS3TnEs

It is about the downward values and returns for USA commercial buildings. Bullions? of dollars are going to be at risk. Partly because – covid-wise many businesses have gone to enabling working from home. Then buildings were bought at a bouncy business time, and interest only mortgages were taken out with the repayment on completion of the period. But the drop in use and return and a higher interest rate now all mean that they probably can not be refinanced easily. And so on.

It’s better than a horror movie. I don’t know why these are still being made. On a similar basis a comedian who specialised in political jokes, made the joke he had to give up as reality had pinched his best material.

  3. GOOD News Team!
MoBIE’s Palace in Stout Street is being equipped with more efficient and effective lighting. Not that we should worry that the transition is being carried out by slaves.
The 40Watt bananas that currently provide light to policy anal ists, muddle and senior management crews; and some very special people.
One of the slaves (thankfully) was not convinced that an old dowager pretending administration of the whole bugger’s muddle that makes up MoBIE, maybe wasn’t that special.
In her precinct, and despite her being special – the Earth wire is not RED, even If there’s been a lack of umpf and current from the GREEN,
Never mind though eh? There are a few other slaves not yet familiar with the wiring code, and a few more tickets to be clipped before the MoBIE palace re-whatevering is complete

  4. Dogfight over NZ/AO! Growl and gristle are the main features of NZ business at the profitable end these days.

…It has labelled the attempt by PGW’s major shareholder, Singapore based Agria, to dump most of the current board and replace them with their own nominees as one of the worst attempts by a shareholder to interfere in the operation of a board.
The NZSA has written to major private and corporate PGW shareholders to spell out its concerns and seek support to oppose Agria’s moves…
Meanwhile, the NZSA has also weighed into the battle to revive Fletcher Building’s fortunes and is lobbying the company to provide full information on any investigations into the value of the company as a whole and its break-up value with potential divestment benefits for shareholders.

Do NZs own anything now of their once major value companies? It seems a pity that after abandoning the workers, Labour didn’t make sure they understood the nature of business. Pendulum swinging it seems but the swing goes higher with big business than normally experienced with fitters and turners on the shop floor. Business fitters and turners are something else!

Hutt South MP Chris Bishop is now the National Party’s third ranking minister and Leader of the House. Before becoming an MP he was a humble political advisor in the ministerial office of Gerry Browlee.
At that time, among other roles, Brownlee was Leader of the House. Bishop’s job was to help manage that. What ‘that’ is we’ll get to in a moment. ..

This brings the book Posh Boys to mine, fags etc. Nothing further useful to say about that. Just thought someone ought to know that someone thought that.

Then thought about Oscar Wilde sent to jail for taking a case to Court defending himself against father of young fella who he had fallen for, and the father telling everyone about it when everyone knew that speaking about it was not acceptable. Knowing it was different. Wilde died early in Paris. His fine mind was no defence against ignominy. Just thinking.

  7. Good idea to find this money. Taxes on all property sales over $800,000 of 5%. The money to be held in a special account for necessary repairs and applied for from the Local Government body based on a need criteria decided and assessed year by year. How about it? $8.7 million isn’t much and should be done before things get worse. 600 homes are in area at risk. Also rail.

Repairs and upgrades of the stopbanks – along Peninsula Road in Spring Creek – are expected to cost $8.7 million.

  8. What do you think happened to Trotter, Martyn? Addled on the way to senility?

He put the ‘art of the possible’ above the goal? Galloway by all measure is a rebirth of a people’s movement.

Ok, people change. He did magnificent work — that he’s gone off to the Right destroys his life’s work.
