The look on Luxon's face as he is held hostage by ACT free market extremism and Winston's Q Zealand culture war revenge fantasies

Latest Curia Poll shows Kiwis are in love with their new Hard Right Racist Climate Denying Government.

National – 41

Labour – 28.4

Green – 9.5

ACT – 7.8

NZ First – 5.6

Te Pāti Māori – 3.6

Kiwis are joking and chuckling nervously around BBQs that ‘better times’ are coming, when the reality is that this Political Hate Threesome has no solutions beyond culture war revenge fantasies and that the economic reality of what is coming will gut their sense of wealth and economic security far more viciously than any Trans person sharing a toilet with them ever will.

China’s feeble economic data will impact NZ negatively and with looming geopolitical shockwaves all primed to go off before Trump’s dreaded re-election in November, we are going to face economic dire straights combined with dangerous levels of social dislocation and civil disorder.

I haven’t even included on top of all that, catastrophic climate change events.

National at 41 is the herd crowding together in the pen before the abattoir.

The Left must have real policy solutions and an actual vision for NZ that can convince voters a Left wing State that helps them is better than a Right wing State that wants to punish them.

We must formulate vision and policy that speaks to the actual material wellbeing of all our voters funded by the richest amongst us.

2023 had a lower voter turn out than 2017, when we just scrapped in. Left wing voters didn’t bother in 2023, those voters will feel the pain of this new hard right racist Government most keenly and will have every interest in striking back in 2026 if the Left can give them a compelling vision and immediate upgrades.

  1. If the Greens can’t stop kowtowing to their narcissistic identitarian element, and Labour can’t stop pandering to the PMC infesting their ranks, then a new Workers Party must be formed for 2026.

Such a party, with the full backing of our 400,000 unionised workers across Aotearoa, would crush the traitors and troughers in charge of the Nats & associated parasites.

Aside from civil insurrection, that’s the only way to break the endless cycle we are trapped in.

      • Renters United. That would be a good name for a political party. (And with a ban on property owners holding office being parliamentary candidates.)

    • Hey Jase….The type of people who you need do not use the word Aotearoa…..You are your own worst enemy Jase….Break the shackles and be brave…Say your from New Zealand and the rest will fall into place…

    • Farmers? Read this.
      George Monbiot. The Guardian.
“What do angry farmers in Nevada and Germany have in common? They’re being exploited by the far right.
Farmers’ movements in several European nations are being influenced or exploited by political forces in ways that have chilling historical precedents. ”

You’re being, and have been, fucking conned. Please, please wake the fuck up. AO/NZ’s very future, its economy, its people, @ Maori, everyone and everything about Aotearoa / New Zealand depends upon our primary industry waking the fuck up to the fact that the greedy lunatic far right have been exploiting our farmers for their money for generations. Please wake up. Wake up! Read, talk, meet, swap stories, share experiences, come to understand, think outside the political narrative, think for yourselves, be kind to yourselves and each other and think then communicate, for the sake of an entire country.

  2. Yes there is a quiet optimism around the barbie that NZ is now in “better” hands. I was a bit surprised at how good the poll was for the right but I guess the pub talk’s calmer vibes is more widely reflected than I thought. The hoi polloi do not see the new NZ government as hard right or racist. The managerial class, most academics and MSM are still generally supportive of “failed” Labour ideals but like at the election fail to sell them to the hoi polloi. It is early days yet for the new government and they have faced quite vocal opposition from day dot. The Curia poll suggests to me the opposition are targeting areas that are not of great importance to right voters as support for the right is still strong. Little measures such as introducing road tax for electric vehicles which Labour likely would have done anyway, suspending further drops in speed limits, showing less regard for “woke” dogma and signalling fiscal restraint are not hurting the right at all by the looks.

    • ” A quiet optimism around the barbi by the looks ” Yeah-nah mate. Not sweet-as.
The Blokie ball cupping beersies with the boysies brain farterie around the foul, meat-slabs barbi is what got us all into this loony logical fallacy cluster fuck where real men knew a thing or two about a dog but in reality, as above, knew fuck all of fuck less than not fuckin’ much.
The dull minded defence of greed being good while the toes curl in the jandles at the sight of Bruce’s crutch bulge and the thought of grabbing at it at footy is surely an indication of the presence of the *terminal fool.
The neo-natzo’s and it’s head lice side kicks will be the end of our AO/NZ if steadfast and direct action isn’t taken. ( Just one more little thing. Natzo, ACT and NZ first AND davidson and shaws The Green Party and the Maori Party are all the same political ‘thing’. They’re all still ACT’s roger douglas’s neo-liberalism. You should think about that before you down that 12 pack of stubbies then spark up the barbi. )

    • Interestingly the 13 yr old transport minister Simeon ( what was his parents thinking!)Brown has admitted petrol vehicles will eventually also pay road user chargers.
I guess they require more to pay for those tax cuts.
I didn’t believe we could have a government as bad as the worst government in history, the Jonkey led government yet at this stage, this government is even worse.
We will all suffer with their divisive policies and inertia.

      • It’s about time cyclists started paying some tax towards the transport costs of New Zealand. They have had squillions spent on empty cycle lanes, at no cost to them. Perhaps some form of annual cycle registration could be implemented , and that way the ratio of cyclists to cost of cycle lanes could be estimated and if the tax and rate payers are getting value for money spent….

  3. The voting public of New Zealand are appreciating the actions of the coalition after 6 years of divisive policy and inertia by Labour.

  4. It must be a concern that the current Nat/ACT/NZF coalition ‘disaster in waiting’ is garnishing increased public support (if Curia polls are anything to go by – which is a big question in itself) after their pathetic start in government. It took 9 weeks to agree – and this was probably only this short to ensure we didn’t need to go back to the polls – and then they have actually created nothing, zero, ZIP! All they have done is reverse legislation that was carefully thought through and promoted a more egalitarian and fair country – great job you knobs!
I can’t wait till we have some form of market correction that will sting the current benefactors of the current neonazi admin that the ‘voters’ have brought to power. Clearly those same voters have escape options available so when the country implodes due to their fucking greed they can move to Australia and somewhere where such stupidity doesn’t run the roost.
What will it take for us to rediscover our fairness and positivity? Lets wait for the next market crash and all the excuses in the universe – go NatAct-Winny first – damaging the country to the point it will take years to recover.

    • Well said and finally an intelligent Bob.
They have done zero/ zip, as you say and have been on holiday since xmas. So a poll from a right wing source shows a positive result for the right bloc after they’ve done nothing for a couple of months, ho hum, turn the page.

  5. Business confidence is up which makes workers feel more confident which means they are happy to spend which gives the businesses the signs they were right to be confident.

    • So Trevor, what drives ‘business confidence’? Is it paying a living wage to all employees or the ability to pay less and expect more; or is it the ability to pay less tax and expect someone else to pay for the infrastructure to support their business; or is it having a pool of unemployed available to be exploited; or maybe less regulation and policing that allows cheap and nasty.
Business confidence is no measure of what is good for society overall, and unless all society does well we all suffer.

      • Without business confidence no expansion no new job opportunities less tax paid less in the coffers to pay for health and education. Social ills cannot be fixed without a strong economy this seems to be missed by those on the left and is why you lost though it seems Hipkins has not worked that out yet.

        • You assume a bit too much in aligning me with the Labour and its loss.
Why, if business confidence is high, are we seeing companies collapse, and a rapid increase in redunancies. Our economic model that both Nats and Labour adhere to seems to require a 5 to 10% redunacy rate to make it work. The Reserve Bank requires it to reduce inflation. This is nuts, and we are seeing the results of this thinking in the breakdown in many of societies values. This thinking has disenfranchised a whole section of society – yet the wealthy have exponentially increased their wealth – something is not right.

        • Business confidence is certainly not up on the Picton Ferry crossing or public transport in Auckland although the economy is stronger now with the improved wages under Labour kicking in. So National are reaping the rewards of Labours fiscal prudence. Seems you have little understanding of success, those on the right seem at a loss on this. And Luxon is no PM. He sounds like a back bench MP at best.

      • I suggest you put up and hock your house to finance a business venture and then live the responsibilities and obligations. Then you’ll know what business confidence is. Until then I don’t think you and all your vocal socialist friends be financing society to do well.
Socialism is great…as long as Capitalism pays for it all, ey.

    • Thats strange, in construction, our confidence is way down. We can’t see how any of Nat/ACT/NZF’s policies will lower inflation, or interest rates. As construction as an industry runs on debt, this shit matters. W are waiting for the inevitable slow down, and trying to guess which firms will go under.

    • There is no more Labour after Jace and Grant, no matter what good they did during crises. They fulfilled the true Left’s expectation of them. The rich-rulers always come first for them.

    • Which one do you take seriously Rodel?and can we assume if the results mirror this Curia poll on your preferred pollster it’s a a rogue poll or the more usual ‘polls are never to be believed’ (unless of course your ‘side’ shows well, then they are great things!’)

      • 90% of pollsters have the agenda to make those who are paying for the poll look good in the public’s eyes – a bit like consultants really!
Who supervises polls and audits their results?
Do any of the polling companies allow unrestricted access to their raw data?
Are their any controls or laws placed on polling companies?

  6. so nats got a couple of % from their partners who have lost support already and it is seen as a surge in the pools .The fact is none of them got near 50% and between them are scratching to make it past 50% now .No fucking surge of support .Tell my son who has had no new work since the election and he works in the construction industry .His mate has 4 concrete pumps sitting idle .They both noted work enquires stopped as soon as this bunch od parasite fuckers were elected

  7. Yes Lone Comet. Labour need a leader who has had time in real world , like working at a Fish & Chip Shop.

  8. Two things the media narrative has changed because the right lobbyists and commentators are no longer moaning and moaning and moaning in the media. The second is this new government are taking decisive action and implementing the stuff (cuts) the three stooges have been paid to do. It looks competent and confident. Why didn’t Labour with an historic majority do some transforming that would have been difficult to undo and would have made them appear competent and confident?

    • You don’t read Martyns blog much Joseph?
He has been posting the same head scratching questions you have just asked in your last paragraph for last 3yrs!

    • reealised this decaaaaaaades ago – and have been listening to hip-hop ever since – fight the power, fight the powers that be.

  9. A change from an unhelpful neoliberal wishy-washy gummint. For the worse of course, but there was no other option.

Species end here and we elect return to ‘normal’. If you hope for these people you hope for new babies with post-natal alcohol syndrome.

  10. The labour party were incompetent clowns
This government is doing exactly what it was voted in to do.
The majority now think we’re going in the right direction
Threats from the Maori Kings meeting will just reinforce the feeling that change has to happen

Threats from the Maori Kings meeting will just reinforce the feeling that change has to happen

  12. Commonsense insofar as it exists, is gradually reasserting itself in respect of the Labour’s wilder woke follies. The disinformation campaign wielded against Jacinda and the Covid policies has largely run its course, and removed her, with Chippy as collateral damage.

And the long term folly of current Gnat moves has yet to make its way through to balance sheets. So why would polls be any different?

Labour, if they stood for anything, would be getting their shit together now, but they can’t be bothered. They’ll wait for the tide to roll them back in again like the worthless flotsam they have allowed themselves to become.

  13. NZ will be loving this Govt even more now that someone finally holds KO to account…Labour never did a fucking thing about 1000s of empty KO houses!

  14. If you’re relying on the Labour Party to have a left … ish vision for NZ I’ve got a bridge you can buy. They haven’t had a vision since Roger Douglas and that was like something out of Hieronymus Bosch painting. This is “New” Labour remember – they just do the neoliberal thing with a few tweaks around the edges. And that is one reason why some of the young people I know don’t vote. They don’t see a great deal of difference between National and Labour. Partly this is due to the fact that they don’t follow politics very much but I have a certain sympathy with that attitude.

    • Yes, there is no left..ish economic vision. They don’t really espouse one, if they have one they don’t know how to sell it. When the populace is widely ready to support some action on a left vision they are too scared of a focus group and not prepared to argue and change the minds of additional voters. The housing crisis – a major state house build would have had widespread support if sold well and implemented well. After covid the widespread reaction to the wealth disparity gave the political room for some kind of capital or wealth tax but it is always off the table when land-lording parliamentarians who receive Higher Salaries know they will be affected. During a cost of living crisis when they receive a Higher Salary they just couldn’t see how vote-winning, a gst off all grocery items tax cut for families, would be with left and center voters. (So what if it makes the taxman and the accountant jobs a bit difficult – it’s not like they have to work hard anyway – but NeoLabour has embedded Douglas and Caygill’s tax efficiency forever, even at the cost of losing elections).

Nothing transformative for ordinary people and now the Nats mates arriving on the incoming tide are already troughing in the pork barrel.

  15. Wonder why the coalition is doing so well…?? Perhaps it’s something that the previous government did , or said…
