The announcement about the new diplomatic missions in the South Pacific comes as Biden prepares to welcome leaders to Washington for the two-day US-Pacific Island Forum Summit. Talks are expected to heavily focus on the impact of climate change in the region.

New Zealanders will have no say in this decision.
Both the Labour and National Parties are the parties of war.
Only a vote for TPM can ensure that whether or not this country will again be dragged into another overseas war, will be democratically debated in parliament.

Te Pāti Māori say a ‘transformative’ defence and foreign affairs policy, will see its MPs vote against overseas military support, by New Zealand forces.
Co-leaders Debbie Ngarewa-Packer and Rawiri Waititi unveiled the neutrality policy during their AGM, calling it “Rangatiratanga and Mana Māori Motuhake in action”; if in power, they would withdraw from the Five Eyes security pact between Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK and the US.
“We will no longer be a political football in the wars of imperial powers. We will no longer act as a Pacific spy base for the Five-Eyes Alliance,” Waititi said.
The US opening embassies in our Pacific neighbours are the least of our problems.
These are independent countries free to make their own decisions with whoever they choose to have diplomatic relations with.

What is your plan for independence and self sufficiency? How exactly do we “protect our pacific neighbours from the USA and China?” They are easy terms to say, a little harder to implement. Then again it’s election time so slogans are everywhere.

As far as independence is concerned, in order to plan for it we first need to admit that we are not an independent nation. We admit nothing….
No of course we’re not. People here (including previous Prime Ministers) like to proclaim that we are, all the while comfortable in the knowledge that someone else will come to our aid if necessary. I like the idea of being independent but to be that we need to
1. Be able to pay for it (and simply adding more taxes won’t do that)
2. Be able to enforce it
I also don’t think being independent means never picking a side. It just means you’re not coerced into it.
This is why our ridiculously anal approach to government debt levels has to end. All this hand ringing over future generations having to pay back debt ( happy to let them face climate Armageddon however) implies you won’t be paying one way or another. I’d rather pay debt than toll fees to the Chinese government.
Didn’t I posit here before, that we need to phone The Big K Charles and ask for 5 aircraft carriers plus bombing/shooting planes plus missile carrying submarines asap?
I read a couple of great photo thingies in The Guardian about the consequences of rapacious, unfettered greed in humans. Greed, aka the lust for money knowing it = power. That’s what it is. The Great Spreading Global Disease is what we know of as ‘money’. I think the lust for money is a psychosis. A mental illness. You get what ever Swelling you like, just know that you’re National and it’s clone ACT Bitches. They just want your money and the power that enables.
