Wait, what?

Biden to open embassies in Cook Islands and Niue as he welcomes Pacific leaders for Washington summit

President Joe Biden is set to announce the opening of new US embassies on Cook Islands and Niue on Monday as the Democratic administration aims to demonstrate to Pacific Island leaders that it remains committed to increasing American presence in the region.

The announcement about the new diplomatic missions in the South Pacific comes as Biden prepares to welcome leaders to Washington for the two-day US-Pacific Island Forum Summit. Talks are expected to heavily focus on the impact of climate change in the region.

Why are we allowing the Realm of NZ to be encroached upon by the Americans?

Surely our job as an independent voice in the pacific is to protect our Pacific Neighbours in ensuring their agency over the interests of Washington and Beijing, especially when that pacific Neighbour is part of our Realm!

Meanwhile, the ramifications of war in Ukraine is being paid for in Africa…

Aid groups in Africa face biggest funding shortfalls in decades amid new humanitarian emergencies, price increases, Ukraine war

…we are not ready for the conflict coming, and the total refusal to focus on Foreign Affairs this election is a travesty.

Ukraine and Russia have every chance to metastasize, Africa is on the brink of rogue nation status as regional players fight proxy wars, China has internal economic issues  and Trump may get re-elected next year.

Luxon is openly arguing for Chinese money to build our infrastructure while tensions rise.

Independence and self sufficiency must be our focus on a burning planet.

  1. Our (and Australian) treatment of our Pacific neighbours over decades is the reason that they are vulnerable to both Chinese and American encroachment. You reap what you don’t sow in our case.

  2. When you consider the people seeking power in the USA & their ambitions I suspect you ain’t seen nothing yet. At least you recognise the problem which is better than most of the population.

  3. The US opening embassies in our Pacific neighbours are the least of our problems.

Personally I have no problems with this.

Andrew Little’s decision to go against this country’s democratically decided nuclear free status to join the AUKUS nuclear club presents a far bigger danger.
Without any consultation or debate, the incoming National Party government, looks likely to fast track Andrew Little’s initiative under urgency, with the full support of the Labour Party.

New Zealanders will have no say in this decision.

Both the Labour and National Parties are the parties of war.

Only a vote for TPM can ensure that whether or not this country will again be dragged into another overseas war, will be democratically debated in parliament.

Te Pāti Māori say a ‘transformative’ defence and foreign affairs policy, will see its MPs vote against overseas military support, by New Zealand forces.
Co-leaders Debbie Ngarewa-Packer and Rawiri Waititi unveiled the neutrality policy during their AGM, calling it “Rangatiratanga and Mana Māori Motuhake in action”; if in power, they would withdraw from the Five Eyes security pact between Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK and the US.

“We will no longer be a political football in the wars of imperial powers. We will no longer act as a Pacific spy base for the Five-Eyes Alliance,” Waititi said.

These are independent countries free to make their own decisions with whoever they choose to have diplomatic relations with.

  5. What is your plan for independence and self sufficiency? How exactly do we “protect our pacific neighbours from the USA and China?” They are easy terms to say, a little harder to implement. Then again it’s election time so slogans are everywhere.

    • As far as independence is concerned, in order to plan for it we first need to admit that we are not an independent nation. We admit nothing….

      • No of course we’re not. People here (including previous Prime Ministers) like to proclaim that we are, all the while comfortable in the knowledge that someone else will come to our aid if necessary. I like the idea of being independent but to be that we need to

        1. Be able to pay for it (and simply adding more taxes won’t do that)
        2. Be able to enforce it

I also don’t think being independent means never picking a side. It just means you’re not coerced into it.

  6. This is why our ridiculously anal approach to government debt levels has to end. All this hand ringing over future generations having to pay back debt ( happy to let them face climate Armageddon however) implies you won’t be paying one way or another. I’d rather pay debt than toll fees to the Chinese government.

  7. Didn’t I posit here before, that we need to phone The Big K Charles and ask for 5 aircraft carriers plus bombing/shooting planes plus missile carrying submarines asap?
I read a couple of great photo thingies in The Guardian about the consequences of rapacious, unfettered greed in humans. Greed, aka the lust for money knowing it = power. That’s what it is. The Great Spreading Global Disease is what we know of as ‘money’. I think the lust for money is a psychosis. A mental illness. Look at trump, musk, bezos and the small army of multi-billionaires, some of whom are here.
Say the word ‘money’ often enough and it starts to sound fruity. It’s what you might say if you fell backwards off your skate board and cracked your head on the concrete. “Money-mone-money! Ow-ow-ow!” Have you ever been around rich people? And I mean RICH people. They’re weird fuckers man. They have a certain kind of toxic conceit they’re not afraid of being proud of. They prance and slither and know that we know they can make life extremely difficult for us humans if they so desired, so watch it!
That’s why the ACT/Natzo double-bubble are heading after our farmers. Farmers Scharmers, who gives a fuck. You get what ever Swelling you like, just know that you’re National and it’s clone ACT Bitches. They just want your money and the power that enables. You sheep farmers will be coming to the end of lambing now and you know that fuck all you’ll be getting that you worked night and day for? Well, that’s Money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money–money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money-money but not for you. You’ll just get a build up of unpayable debts and a nice wee suicide.
Farmers? Stop it! Go back to bed. It’s cheap, warm, snuggly and give your partner what O! While you’re at it and if you’re alone? Grip Ol’ Todger and hand-strangle out a fun time.
The rest of you? If you were smart and handsome like me, you’d get debt free. Quick Smart.

  8. We should ally with the country that has future ambitions to make the world a more safer peaceful place and guess which country is promoting peace and harmony???

That right folks it’s not the US nor NATO countries. We are situated in the Asian economic region one of the riches region on planet earth. Guess who we have to thank for this?????

European exceptionalism is ova the rise of the east is inevitable.

  9. African nations are decolonizing away from european exceptionalism. For centuries they have been used and abused by european nations and have said enough is enough. The African nations still possess minerals that have enriched european nations while their own people don’t have power or running water.

Russia under Putin has re-established this relationship that was strong under communism. Putin has cancelled billion dollar debts and has sent Free grain and weapons to help these nations regain their sovereignty. The tide is turning to the east & global south is rising ending the petrol dollar ponzi scheme. Swapping paper printing money for real hard asset is gonna be a thing of the past!

    BRICS is the future.

    • USA suddenly taking an interest in the Pacific after China investing in the Pacific Islands and expanding their influence in a number of Pacific Island Nations.

  10. My general impression of 7 Houses is that he isn’t as bright as is portrayed. But the fact he even has the slightest inclination to allow the CCP Chinese Criminal Party to be involved in the construction of any form of infrastructure in NZ, proves that he is more than the least sharpest tool in the shed. No, he is more likely the biggest, dumbest meathead ever to run the country. –

Not only is chance of the project suffering from quality, but any project they are involved in means little or no input from local contractors. Also comes with free with foreign influence, a barrel of fish hooks, and dodgy back room dealings. No doubt that would appeal to NatCCP
