Christian teacher loses registration after refusing to use trans student’s pronouns
A New Zealand high school teacher has had his teaching registration cancelled after he refused to use the preferred pronouns and name for one of his transgender students.
It has led to the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand saying all students are “entitled to feel that schools are a safe space, where they are respected and valued” and teachers must not use their authority to “undermine the personal identity of their learners, or to inappropriately influence them”.
And one of New Zealand’s leading LGBT+ charities has also spoken out about the issue, saying it is important students’ identities are respected at school.
Good.
I’m glad a Christian Teacher was sacked for not only refusing to use the preferred pronouns but for also engaging with the student and trying to sway them on this issue which is just unacceptable.
Look, I have deep concerns about the militant and cult level promotion of alienating Woke Trans Dogma via the middle class identity politics clique, 4th wave feminists and non binary activists. I also have deep doubts about making any long lasting medical decisions regarding gender, but if a student has made these choices then it is basic civil courtesy towards one another to accept that.
If a person has made the decision to transition, we have an obligation to respect that, while being critical of the more unhinged parts of Woke Trans Dogma.
Which brings me to NZ Pride Week in Schools last week.
I’m the most liberal human in the world, I fought for equality legislation and marriage in NZ for the Gay Community, I don’t care who you love as long as it is consensual and all power to you living your truth!
I do have deep misgivings about the way the Trans community have advanced their cause with cancel culture militancy because I think it provides ammunition to the far right and I have deep misgivings about the erasure of women to accomodate the Trans community, but I support the Trans Community’s right to exist and have the same agency we all do in a democracy, but how the christ is this anything other than overt sexualisation…

It may not be as simple as that, From the newspaper article I read, it seems that the teacher got a bit worked up when speaking to the student. If he spoke to the student in an inappropriate tone in front of other students, that could be a valid reason for the total deregistration, rather than just a warning.
I wonder how the rest of the class feel about it, but I doubt if such aspects will be publicised.

I’m glad that the UK Prime Minister is addressing the role of schools and their teachers in engaging with transgender ideology. Rishi Sunak, father of two daughters, has stated that the well-being of children is his top priority.
What a difference it would make to New Zealand children if we had such a politician, but our children don’t even have a Commissioner, let alone a Prime Minister, or a Minister, or anybody sane enough not to endorse the pernicious undermining of the role and legal responsibility of parents in children’s lives subjected to gender ID dogma at school, and potentially majorly adversely affected by it.
Uk schools are now being banned from allowing children to “change their gender” without the consent of their parents.
But here in New Zealand, thanks to Green zealots alas not the fathers of daughters, parents can be punished and imprisoned for up to three years, if they do not agree to underage children being transitioned.
Unlike the New Zealand PM, Sunak has expressed deep concern about the context of sex education being taught to some pupils, emphasising that it is vital that “the right safeguards are in place,”stating, “ We have to recognise that any degree of social transition could have potentially quite a significant impact and consequences for a child.”
Tragically for our children, the NZ Education Dept seems to be too captured by transgender extremism to be concerned about children, and I think even the Human Rights Commissioner looks as if he might have been too. I expect they’re scared they’ll be labelled anti-trans if they don’t participate in the premature sexualisation of school children, and their confusion, and upping their anxiety levels, while demonising naturally concerned parents is as bad and as mad as it gets.
If Sunaks daughters ended up being lesbian, he will disown them. Simple.

It would be good to know what the preferred pronoun in question was. Maybe it was “they” and as a Maths Teacher he could only count 1 student in front of him or, maybe he’s an English Teacher and took a principled position on good grammar and refused to use “them” unless the student was a schizophrenic with a multiple personality disorder or, maybe he’s a Science Teacher and has not found any scientific evidence or published papers that compellingly show gender trumps biology.

Within my family (on the Anglican side) we have both lesbian and gay family members, and they are married. Everyone knows about their sexuality. And there is no issues.

The most disturbing thing about that story is that the poor kid is 14 years old. Can’t even get a driver’s license or drink legally yet it’s OK to change their gender. There’s numerous examples of people who transitioned early and regretted it later. I support the teacher 100%.

A possible fair thought. Personally I won’t taint all with one brush, especially ‘Christian’ as I find they are very sporadic in different beliefs and levels of liberalism.
Most Christian teachers would not say ‘you should burn in hell’, fundamentally this is incorrect I believe. Although they may see it as a sin in their beliefs it is up to God to be the judge not them. This is where many fundamentals of assessment of sin vary in differing Christian religions.
I find Islam more of ‘this is the line’ – but might be wrong.
I also find Indigenous beliefs harsher than many ‘Christian’ beliefs on many issues as well.

He wasn’t sacked. He resigned. And deregistering him is complete overreach by the Teaching Council. I’m appalled at its high handed actions. He’s allowed to express his Christian beliefs and object to this pernicious stuff creeping into our schools. We are supposed to have freedom of speech in this country, are we not? The biggest problem with the teacher’s behaviour, IMO, is targeting the student with his disagreement with transitioning – and especially with telling the student it was a pathway to sin.
The people who should be the focus of a teacher’s disagreement over this issue, is the adults who enable the transitioning of minors. In many cases, the transitioning of minors operates as LGB conversion therapy, with them and/or their parents thinking it will mean they are no longer lesbian or gay, but will somehow magically become heterosexual.
In other instances, young people are convinced that not conforming to sex-based stereotypes means they are trans. Transitioning should be for adults who have carefully weighed he pros and cons of that step.

For balance, does HIV Aids information also get taught in Primary School.? The reality is that gonorrhea is now stronger than available treatment, it was reported recently. – Isn’t that somewhat authoritarian? What if the teacher was from a non-christian religion or if the child identified as a cat (which is a thing). Should the teacher be sacked for not affirming the child as a feline?

– It is not the trans community it is Queer Theory activists who have usurped the LGBT political space

It did not mutate, it is by design, sexualising children is a part of Queer Theory ideology (which has nothing to do with LGBT people). To acclimatise children as sexual beings is seen as a liberatory act in QT.

– the Teaching Council is ideologically captured or out of their depth and do not know what they are dealing with. What about the ability of Queer Theory activists to inappropriately influence children?
If a child is sincerely identifying, then other variables need to be considered. Perhaps they are just gay, autistic or typically vulnerable in some way. While compassion is needed, there is no evidence that affirmation has any long term phycological benefit and accumulating evidence, such as the path to medicalisation, that affirmation could be damaging.
