The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist language, homophobic language, racist language, anti-muslim hate, transphobic language, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  2. I was briefly looking at Shakespeare’s legacy to us and in what areas. With our recent U-turn on cancelling of Shakespeare in mind, how do we relate to Shakespeare today?
I came across this high-falutin’ discussion from Oxford Academic which seems interesting ferreting if one can concentrate and understand it.

But then, it reinforces to me that there is too big a gap in our educational journey for youngsters and throughout life, concentrating on the mundane and we mostly become ‘rude’ mechanicals There is a gap between our daily present and the concepts forming our society, personal drives and human ambitions and vision, filled too often through the ubiquity of internet and television, by negative bias and reactive thoughts reducing our ability to form personal values, stay steadfast and fair.

This might be a test for oneself to read through it and could explain why Shakespeare is still relevant to today’s minds and deeds. (I’ve added spaces to give bite-sized pieces.)
Abstract: This chapter demonstrates how Shakespeare appropriates rogue biopolitics to stage and critique the production and reproduction of the English social hierarchy. It locates two overlooked contexts for the expulsion of Perdita and prosecution of Hermione, the poor laws and ecclesiastical court, both of which relied upon communal sexual regulation. These biopolitical institutions animate the representation of Perdita’s sexuality in the Bohemian countryside and the public acceptance of her royal and sexual purity upon her return to Sicilia.

The conclusion of The Winter’s Tale, in which two pairs of royal lovers unite despite all odds, has often been read as a capitulation to a naturalizing ideology that links noble birth to sexual purity. Yet, it is argued, the play’s metatheatrically charged penultimate scene suggests that the discursive production of elite sexual and gender superiority is very much a communal affair. Rather than resolve the difficult questions it poses regarding elite socio-sexual identity, the play concludes by metatheatrically enjoining the audience to decide whether and how to untangle the imbrication of elite and rogue sexualities, an uncertain conclusion that reflects the aleatory nature of biopolitical contingency.

  3. I know I know. I’m linking to the standard. Bare with me.

Micky savage writes about Donald Trump’s tax returns and assumes that “$641,931 in federal income taxes in 2015, the year Trump began his campaign for president. $750 in 2016 and 2017, nearly $1m in 2018, $133,445 in 2019 and $0 in 2020,” indicates “business loses.”

All it indicates is a tax deferral. In America you can file a tax defferal form 10/90 which basically means that if a property is sold you’ve got 90 days to but all that money into one or more pre existing properties or, you’ll have to pay taxes on that sake price.

In Australia we call it salary sacrifice or EES and others. Don’t know about NZ.

But that’s not why I backed Trump.

I backed Trump because any state department official would have said excuse me China, you’re ripping off American jobs and stealing intellectual property, hope there’s tariffs don’t make you upset where’s as Trump walked in and said fuck you I’m taxing you. That’s why I backed Trump.

  4. Boys and girls just want to have fun – and never grow up.

Either we bring up the quality of the upbringing of children and youth so that each is an individual with values that enable themselves plus the community, or we all go downwards. Love our parents and give them parenting education workshops and holiday camps in adventure parks so they can comfortably assert authority in guidance of children and help themselves to skills of maturity.
Sound balderdash? – worth a try because we have too big a gap between the lumpenproletariat and those who have positions of power in a higher class. Upward plus downward movement with some humility, would be of value. Our present extended childhood system is no longer viable. The young are to be given voting at a slightly lower age, but the education and preparation practices are uneven, and should start much earlier for earlier adulthood acceptance by society.

  5. Calvin (spunky modern Kid) ponders aloud to Hobbes (toy Tiger who has earned his stripes)
1 Everything is so darnn hard.
2 I wish I could just take a pill to be perfect and I wish I could just push a button to have anything I want (despairing arms up in the air).
3 Hobbes ponders – The American dream lives on. Calvin groans – Why should I have to WORK for everything? It’s like saying I don’t deserve it.
    Thanks Bill Watterson

Paul Weller Wild Wood speaks to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgIw51zmiy8
    High tide, mid-afternoon
People fly by in the traffics boom
    Knowing just where you’re blowing
Getting to where you should be going
Don’t let them get you down
    Making you feel guilty about
Golden rain will bring you riches
All the good things you deserve now, right now

    Climbing, forever trying
Find your way out of the wild, wild wood
    Now there’s no justice
You’ve only yourself that you can trust in…

…Day by day your world fades away
Waiting to feel all the dreams that say
Golden rain will bring you riches
All the good things you deserve now…

…Don’t let them get you down
    Making you feel guilty about
Golden rain will bring you riches
All the good things you deserve now, right now
    Climbing, forever trying
Find your way out of the wild, wild wood
    Now there’s no justice
You’ve only yourself that you can trust in…

And I said high tide, mid-afternoon
Oh, people fly by and the traffics boom
Oh, knowing just where you’re blowing
Getting to where you should be going

Day by day your world fades away
Waiting to feel all the dreams that say
Golden rain will bring you riches
All the good things you deserve now
And I said climbing, forever trying
You’re gonna find your way out…

  7. Fine thoughtful, balanced pronouncement here by Prof. Baker.
University of Otago epidemiologist Michael Baker described the move as a “complex and finely balanced decision”.
But he said some future planning was required around how testing of international visitors was managed…

…follows growing global concerns about the Covid-19 case numbers out of China and concerns by authorities such as the World Health Organisation (WHO) about a lack of reliable data out of the country.
Covid-19 Response Minister Ayesha Verrall said officials had done a public health risk assessment and concluded there was minimal risk to New Zealanders.

  8. I noticed when looking on Scoop at Latest Headlines from Parliament – quite a few from ACT and you can pick them easily because the headlines all end in – We Hear Ya! Bigears and Noddy are out and about trying to make themselves endearing eh.

Usually before you respond, you evaluate what has happened, asking who is at fault and if they could have done things differently.
But when you are driving, you have less time and resources to make detailed evaluations. Instead, you make quick judgements of the situation and how best to deal with it.
These judgements can be based on how you are feeling at the time. If you are frustrated before getting in the car, you are likely to be easily frustrated while driving, blame other drivers more for your circumstances, and express this through aggressive driving.

Who cares about others? Who cares about others on the roads? Who cares about having amicable helpful relationships sharing the roads? Who cares about other people’s welfare on the roads? Who cares about other people’s welfare in general? Who cares??

Can we go back to trying for a good-hearted society with courtesy, a wave, a double-toot, not being told off for blowing your horn, going 5km over the speed limit by a snippy, tickbox-oriented traffic officer and system?
