  2. To this byzantine arena which is our politics and personal lives today, to know it one must almost become a child again and examine things in a different manner to which one has been accustomed. So I’ve found. And I am wondering if some others may be going through the same personal revolution. I have been reading amongst others, some young adult books which tend to deal with that journey from childhood to young adulthood, poised to become the decision-making individual.

    Here is a list of a series that deals with the matter in an unfamiliar societal set-up. They are not easy to come by but the local library can put out a general call.

    The Kingdom books: by Cynthia Voigt
    The Tale of Gwyn (previously published as Jackaroo);
    The Tale of Birle (previously published as On Fortune’s Wheel);
    The Tale of Oriel (previously published as The Wings of a Falcon);
    The Tale of Elske (previously published as Elske)
    These are adventure stories that take place in a distant past at a time when reading is a privilege restricted to the wealthy and powerful, where justice is hard to come by, where danger – from without or within, from above or below or any side, from natural or human causes–threatens. The heroines and heroes of these stories have to fight to win what is important to them, and sometimes they have to give it up.

    The summary seems very familiar to today’s ears and mind.

  3. Perhaps we should go with this flow.
    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/477761/two-mayors-seek-support-for-alternate-three-waters-plan
    An alternate three waters plan has been proposed by the mayors of Auckland and Christchurch, with control and ownership remaining with local councils, and the type and degree of iwi involvement decided locally.

    Auckland’s Wayne Brown and Christchurch’s Phil Mauger announced their plan today, and said the government’s controversial plan did not have solid support in Parliament or with New Zealand’s local councils.

    The alternative two-page plan was co-issued with Waimakariri mayor Dan Gordon, and the three said they hoped other mayors, local councils, Local Government NZ and central government would look at it.

    Under their plan, control and ownership of three waters would remain with local councils as it is now, but the government’s new national water regulator Taumata Arowai, which was established in March, would be retained.

  4. It seems to me that these are the words we supplicant citizens need to be singing to those politicians operating under the pseudonym of Labour.

    “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word”
    What have I gotta do to make you love me?
    What have I gotta do to make you care?
    What do I do when lightning strikes me?
    And I wake to find that you’re not there

    What do I do to make you want me?
    What have I gotta do to be heard?
    What do I say when it’s all over?
    And sorry seems to be the hardest word

    It’s sad, (so sad) so sad
    It’s a sad, sad situation
    And it’s getting more and more absurd
    It’s sad, (so sad) so sad
    Why can’t we talk it over?
    Oh, it seems to me
    That sorry seems to be the hardest word…
