David Seymour is a better person than his weird grudge with Golriz suggests

‘Say sorry’: Act stonewalls unified message against Iran unless Green MP apologises

Act is set to block a motion calling for a unified condemnation of Iran’s oppression of women’s rights unless Greens MP Golriz Ghahraman apologises for interrupting a speech made by party leader David Seymour in the House.

Seymour, who supports the motion and has criticised Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for not being more vocal on the atrocities in Iran, says Act will not support the motion unless Ghahraman apologises for “smart-arse” points of order during one of his speeches or transfers the motion to another MP.

What the fuck is this shit about?

Now those two rich prick smug social media influencer dickheads are no longer being held hostage by the Iranian regime, we have to with a clear, loud voice denounce these medieval Islamic fanatics and their disgraceful war on women!

For Fucks sakes, they are killing little girls, beating up up school kids, torturing, raping women who are merely proclaiming their basic intrinsic agency to not wear a bloody headscarf, and right now is the moment ACT chooses to be a dick head about this?

Because I am a political tragic, I was listening to this incident David is suddenly furious about and if I remember correctly Golriz was completely righteous for giving David shit!

Only political tragics like me were probably even listening so David’s dredging up of some point of order bullshit to justify not voting for this motion to condemn Iran is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo petty it’s difficult to justify in any shape or form.

Golriz escaped Iran and the mutation it deformed into thanks to the CIA coup and it is righteous that she leads this condemnation of Iran.

David’s demand that Golriz submits to him before he allows the motion through is giving off a really weird vibe.

There are times when David is sublime and even I who hate his policy have to acknowledge his skills, but now and then he does or says something so weird you have to give him the side eye.

This weird grudge with Golriz, his weird vandalising of Māori health by tweeting a code specific for Māori vaccination and that really weird moment he claimed having a public holiday at Christmas was evidence of NZ being a fascist regime are all moments where you went, ‘what the fuck David’, and truth be told he’s a better person than this stupid impasse is presenting him as.

David, drop your bullshit reasons for not voting for this and tell the Iranian regime in clear language that we condemn their violence against their own people and that NZ stands with all free humans.

Playing politics on an issue like this is spiteful. You are many things David, spiteful ain’t one of them.

This issue requires more mana than you are giving it. Golriz is right, we should condemn Iran immediately.

  1. “You are many things David, spiteful ain’t one of them”.

Sorry Martyn, but the leader of a party that wants to destroy what’s left of our public service, remove whatever pitiful vestige of workers rights survives in this country, and privatise public owned assets is indeed, among many other things, “spiteful”.
The mask slips occasionally – this is but one such instance.

    • ” Playing politics on an issue like this is spiteful. You are many things David, spiteful ain’t one of them ”

      I concur Jase.

Sums up ACT and the Nasty Natz perfectly.

    • Yes, Jase and Mosa but despite all of Seemores’ down- right low vindictive policies he wants all NZ kids to get a good education with his charter school policies, bloody hypocrite.

  2. Odd that you don’t attack ‘nations’ actually “killing little girls, beating up up school kids, torturing, raping women” like the Saud regime and the zionist entity this vociferously, Martyn.

    • Comrade. I have written endless numbers of blogs criticising Zionism and our trading relationship with the Saudis. Far more than I have written about Iran

    • ” Odd that you don’t attack ‘nations’ actually “killing little girls, beating up up school kids, torturing, raping women” like the Saud regime and the zionist entity this vociferously, Martyn ”

Do your research before you make those inaccurate claims.

  3. There is a deep vein of “strong woman fear” in some NZers which manifests in misogyny and worse. Some of the online, and right wing protest nastiness Golriz and Jacinda have received is truly astounding and appalling.

Now while Mr Seymour may not be a fully fledged incel, he presents, how shall we put this…not exactly as a cool man about town…he reminds me of a famous photo of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez entering congress, dressed in clingy white, high heels, and looking great. To the side are a bunch of young Republicans in suits with their mouths hanging open just shocked to see an assertive woman close up.

David is being creepy here, and needs a good wake up call.

  4. The speech that Ghahraman interrupted was made by Seymour on 21 Sep 2022. Five weeks ago. Clearly not enough time for poor David to cope.

  5. From what I can tell while being mercifully distant from dodgy dave the rogergnome is that he’s a narcissistic sociopath so he’ll be harboring some slight or other whether real or perceived. AVOID! The day will come when nuts like him will be chipped so we’ll know where they are by an ap on our cell phone.
    Finn Flynn, TDB.
“As with early Christians, the martyrdom of Liz Truss for her faith in neoliberalism did not deter fellow believers from accepting that tax cuts for the rich, cutting economy-stabilising regulations, and cutting social services will eventually lead us all to the land of milk and honey, despite overwhelming evidence that the gospel of monetarism and austerity has failed worldwide except for the fabulously wealthy. ACT leader David Seymour is one such acolyte.
He was introduced to the creed while studying philosophy at university – he also got a degree in electrical engineering – having studied the works of Friedrich Hayek.”
So dave’s a criminal genius then? Or just a dick?

  6. If Saymour is being an idiot, Golriz is definitely not any less. If this petition is so important to her, she just needed to lift her phone and give David a call and settle it.

But, she chooses to grandstand and go to media to put pressure on Saymour. Well done Golriz! Neither will come out of this smelling like rose’s.

  7. What the fuck is this shit about? It’s just people, no big deal.

We want to tell Iran they’re fuckwits and to show we know what being fuckwits is all about Seymour goes all fuckwit to play to the legion of fuckwits who’ll be soooo impressed that he dealt to that woman and her party.

  8. So Martyn, you think David’s policies are terrible, he does weird petty things (the latest for which reeks of immaturity), and he is a career politician who has not had a real job. Maybe David Seymour is just not quite the genius you make him out to be.

I personally don’t think not being a “businessman” is automatically a bad thing. I do however find it laughable that half the right harp on about that point for others just not this guy.

    • Good point.
The 2 ‘influencers’ who ignored the warnings not to travel to Iran, were not imprisoned, had their passports confiscated and have now achieved publicity beyond their wildest dreams

David Richwhite, the man himself from asset stripper, trading and finance titan Fay/Richwhite must be very proud of his son.

    • Seymours policies are rigid because he has aspergers. No empathy, lacks character and a monotony about his persona.

  9. Well you just essentially quoted David Seymour. Does he need a safe space? Someone raises disagreement with something he says, and this is the way he carries on. A champion of free speech packs up his toys because someone didn’t say sorry. Next, he will say he is being bullied…by a Green no less.

  10. So, because “For Fucks sakes, they are killing little girls, beating up up school kids, torturing, raping women” we must join the US lead crusade to damn Iran to hell. Well, if that be the case, “For Fucks Sake”, perhaps we should look at what’s happening here in Aotearoa New Zealand, where the deaths of little children, assaults on school children, including reports this week of rapes being widespread, and violence in the home, are all daily occurrences?

    • On this issue, yes.

The acts of violence are hellish, and rabidly vicious, even for atheists I would have thought.

The act themselves is what is being called out.

Should we condemn the US for their misogyny, hell yes. And our own.

  11. You’ve nailed it before; Seymour has his eye on a life out of Parliament, doing deals with anyone with stacks of cash. Showing that he will publicly insist a woman submits to him will do him no harm should he feel like dealing with the (ruling members of) Saudis, Iranians or other backward elites.

  12. Rather than work with others to condemn Iran’s theist regime for their oppression of women via state supported and protected vigilantism, David Seymour would rather make demands on a women for his support.

Typical of those driven by an ideology that oppresses women – theism and unbridled capitalism.

  13. Well said Martyn. Seymour is being a self righteous prat over this; a clear unanimous message on this is what is required, not some message diluted and muddied by ACT/Green politicking.
Pull your head in David and stand together on this, or are you really that petty?

  14. Who is the real David Seymour? As he will be our next finance minister we should get to know him a little better.
We know from his twerking in a yellow leotard that he does not embarrass easily. He is willing to join the fun and laugh at himself. This indicates he does not see himself as needing vindication from others and that he is comfortable in himself. He doesn’t appear to seek the limelight nor relish being in it but is nevertheless very comfortable being in it. He gets a little uncomfortable talking about personal matters and was a little awkward on the show with the banter. He clearly prefers talking shop.
We know from his policy that he is not high on the empathy scale and he comes across as very matter of fact when talking about euthanising old people. He hasn’t shared any heartfelt personal stories? He has a sense of humour when and if necessary.
We know he is very intelligent and is a master of oral statements and interviews-no one comes close. His monotone voice and droning statements convey a very calm unflappable demeanour and inner strength. He takes stinging criticism and bats it away by factual statements and very good data. He does not appear to be overly sensitive. He appears as a loner and not someone who would have a large number of close friends but more work colleagues and good supporters and acquaintances. He appears to listen well but perhaps never totally agrees nor would change his mind often. He is very firm in his own beliefs. He can work well with other people but sees himself as intellectually superior and someone who should have the final say. He never seems reflective or unsure. He seems to acknowledge his whakapapa but does not see it as in any way relevant to who he is and what he does. He is disconnected from Maori and would not see himself as indigenous. This indicates he has had a very Pakeha upbringing where perhaps any Maori association was not encouraged, but also not discouraged.
I’m very curious who’s lives he wants make better by being in politics. I sense he wants to help “the country” more than say the poor, the disabled or even the wealthy. He talks more about say freedom, rights, economics than the poor or disadvantaged. He often uses anecdotes but more in a factual way rather than a John Campbell heartfelt way.
But I still have absolutely no idea who he is.

  15. Another woke princess virtue signaling her support for the oppressive regimes in Iran. The Shah of Iran was an American-installed puppet.
So the indigenous over threw the Oppressors and years later a woke princess want it to happen all over again! FFS! Understand and, or learn what sovereignty is and means along with some history.

  16. Oh my,

    My, oh my,

Our resident puppet for Mammon, is showing some of his true colours.

    Who would have thought it.

  17. So this NZ’s big free speech party, huh? Putting another MP interrupting them over comdemning the brual opression of woman… Get the fuck over yourself David, you snowflake bitch!

  18. The riots in Iran is called regime change. The NED and its Iranian affiliates MEK are no doubt behind these riots. The collective west media stenographers just pump BS after BS but the Iran regime are to powerful now to let another US regime change and will no doubt overcome this phase of US aggression. The Petrodollar is on its way out with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states along with Iran becoming more cooperative in expelling the US dollar to oblivion its already happening.

  19. jist them gang of five attemting to claim the high ground, what five, the guy who owns the island of sculpture island in Hauraki, and the other four ruthless hangers on, Douglas, Prebble, and that short tem prime prime minister, and not forget the present parliament fool, our of his depth with these corporate monsters and their ideology.

  20. Golriz escaped Iran and the mutation it deformed into thanks to the CIA coup’

When exactly was this C.I.A coup?

    • The coup against the Mossadeq government in 1953, which led via the Shah to the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

She arrived here with family in 1990 (as refugees, after going to Malaysia for a holiday).

  21. I had always viewed Seymour as a weird little man who got the job by default and was incredibly surprised when the Act party took off.

Given that it took off and some of us felt so burnt by Labour, I spent a bit of time looking into Acts policies. On one side they seem a bit pathological but what struck me was that there were a few good ones too and evidence of some well thought out strategies. None of which I thought Seymour would be capable of.

As to his potential for Aspergers, it is a spectrum and it is absolutely true that some Aspergers people cannot stand to be disrespected or ‘done down’ by someone outside of the rules as they understand them. So it is possible but his quick sense of humour and ability to communicate well seem inconsistent with this.

As a parent of an Aspie, I remeber reading that “Asperger’s people are often mistaken for Narcissists as the behaviour looks the same but the motivation etc is far different. So make of that what you will.

To my mind, I find Seymour’s sense of humour refreshing compared with Luxon and Ardern. He is also far more willing to talk and to listen than them as well. Pity about his extreme policies which undermine some of his better ideas.
