This is why Seymour will outperform Luxon during the 2023 campaign

ACT Ukraine fundraiser to give out baggage tags made of downed Russian warplane

Baggage tags made out of downed Russian fighter jets are among fundraising incentives the ACT Party is offering up, as it attempts to raise $50,000 for Ukraine during an event later this month.

But a Russian diplomatic official has questioned the haul, asking whether in fact the tags were from Ukraine aircraft shot down by Russia’s beleaguered armed forces.

It comes as the war rages on, with fears surrounding nuclear threats after Russia’s President Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilisation last month.

“Can you be positive these parts don’t belong to any of 312 Ukrainian airplanes or 157 helicopters downed by the Russian Armed Forces,” a spokesperson from the Russian Embassy asked, suggesting there were con artists around, hawking fake war mementos.

Seymour was unperturbed by the Russian suggestions about the provenance of the baggage tags.

He said that it was a matter of trust, “and I would trust my Ukrainian friends before I would trust Putin’s regime”.

“If they [the Embassy] want to put their credibility on the line against my Ukrainian friends, they’re even dumber than I thought.

“But even if it was a scam, we’re happy to raise money for the Ukrainians, so they can shoot down some more Russian planes.”

…could you imagine Luxon having the self confidence to say “even if it was a scam, we’re happy to raise money for the Ukrainians, so they can shoot down some more Russian planes.”?

You know he never would!

HDPA over at ZB seems to have only recently heard of this Party called ACT and that National will be dependent on David to form a Government.

If political commentators are this blind, so is the voting public.

TDB has been pointing for sometime the conflict policies of ACT and have pointed out National are about to be driven far right to where Lizz Truss and her free market dogma lives.

That’s just the start…

  • Cut and freeze the Minimum wage
  • Interest back on all student loans
  • No Kiwsaver subsidy
  • Cancel winter energy payment
  • Dump all climate crisis legislation
  • no more best start payments for families with new borns
  • cut welfare payments
  • no tax credits for research and development
  • cuts to working for families
  • $7b a year cut in public services
  • Abolish Maori seats

Oh and ankle bracelets on children, don’t forget that!

This is Romper Stomper Hard Right insanity that makes Qanon look reasonable and because there is no way National can win without ACT, every vote to National empowers ACT.

The idea that ACT on 12.5% now are going to go backwards against a poor performer like Luxon seems disconnected from reality.

Seymour is faster, funnier and says things like, “even if it was a scam, we’re happy to raise money for the Ukrainians, so they can shoot down some more Russian planes”.

The polarisation that is powering ACT is demanding radical right wing amputation of the State and we on the Left are too busy going on strikes and fighting about pronouns to see the looming punch in the face that could be the 2023 election.

ACT are an existential threat to all the progress of the last 6 years.

If there is a ACT/National Government next year, it will be the most right wing since Roger Douglas in the Fourth Labour Government.

  1. ” If there is a ACT/National Government next year, it will be the most right wing since Roger Douglas in the Fourth Labour Government ”

David would be in competition with Ruth and the 1990-93 National government for that title

  2. What progress has been made in the last 6 years expect for those running consulting agencies certainly not those hildren living in poverty.

    • I was wondering the same thing. If all we’ve got to lose is the gains of the last 6 years I suddenly don’t feel very worried.

And actually it sums up neo-liberalism perfectly – the gains of the left are always skin deep.

  3. Labour were on track to being a 1 term government until Covid spared them. It just got worse, that’s all. Yep, ACT is hard right but its no good saying, yes I know Labour is largely a talentless collection of otherwise unemployable idiots, but ACT will be worse but for different reasons. If voters cast their votes that way it’s only because this Labour government and the pointless repellent Green Party have driven them that way!

Look at Labour, a dual caucus hidden agenda party and those whose cause dominates are delivering the most unappealing effects to voters at every level. As for the remainder, including our PM, they have no cause other than to play grown up politicians!

    • Progress in the last 6 years?
Under the Ardern Government we have been full speed in reverse.
Her legacy breaking almost every election promise.
As a metaphor she could be renamed Jacinda Fenton.
Ironical the most right wing Government we’ve had was Labour.

  4. The left have only themselves to Blame.

The taking of a middling politician with a propensity for not achieving – promoting her youthful, female appearance with bumper slogans as policies to get elected and then under the cloak of covid transforming this politician into a narcissistic control freak and a carefully controlled narrative aided and abetted by the feckless MSM will long term haunt the Labour Party.

Ardern’s enablers went down this woke, totalitarian path – to now gasp in horror where ACT (NZ’s only center right party) is odds-on to have a large influence in the next government is karma.

What will be delicious is if the Roy Morgan poll begins to be replicated and Labour’s slide into the 20’s confirmed as the party doesn’t have a plan B. In the words of Thannos

“I am going to enjoy it very, very much”

  5. Act are about as center right as the freedom and democracy actor Zelensky.

Two ticks ,,,, blue and yellow.

Zelensky was elected by 73 percent of the vote on a promise to pursue peace while the rest of his platform was vague. On the eve of the invasion, however, his approval rating had sunk to 31 percent due to the pursuit of deeply unpopular policies.

up to 72% of Ukrainians did not support his land reform (corrupt privatization), the flagship of Zelensky’s neoliberal program. After his party approved it despite people’s indignation, Zelensky’s rating fell from 73 percent in Spring 2019 to 23 percent in January 2022 ,, https://thegrayzone.com/2022/04/28/zelensky-celebrity-populist-pinochet-neoliberal/

  6. I suspect that the ruling classes allowing (new) Labour governments like the ones in the UK, New Zealand, and now, Australia is part of the plan. That way the population can be inoculated against real socialism with a harmless / weakened / dead strain of the virus (it also helps keep those greedy right wing politicians in line). Give the people a few years of bureaucracy building, virtue signalling and identity politics and that should put them off ever expecting healthcare, human rights, free education and all those other ‘commie’ crimes. In the words of Juice Media: Modern Labour parties are just ‘Shite Lite’.

  7. Since when did the UK have a labour government? They have a new PM but she is from the existing Conservative government.

  8. ACT is an anti-Maori party there manifesto is explanatory enough with the ‘fur’ David Seymour having a crack at anything pro-Maori. He reminds of Zelensky being jewish of a country that has anti-semitic roots.

  9. ” If political commentators are this blind, so is the voting public ”

Not if the merger goes through. One of the first signs will be beginning a debate about the effect of ACT’s policies so that the public is informed what that will mean. Real stories about real people and how they are marginalised and live lives of destitution and are at the mercy of the neo liberal economy , property owning MP’s and the managerial elitists.

Add mental health , climate change , the obscene profits of the foreign banks , Palestine , the history of land confiscation , the truth behind what happened to Peter Ellis , corporate lobbying and how that effects the political process and many other topics that need to be put in front of the public.

If this merger is the only thing they implement after two years of majority government and it delivers what it promises then it will be a huge shift in more transparent broadcasting.

  10. Footnote I am aware I have contradicted myself after making these comments on Tuesday

” This merger will not make any difference because RNZ and TVNZ are still run by appointed National party members who don’t care about impartiality or political bias unless it is attacking a left leaning position ”

I want to be proved wrong in the lead up to the next campaign.
