    • Sorry this is long Martyn but felt I wanted to probe the wound of this murder and immolation and look at our muddied, muddled society. Time to clean the windows and stop the mud- throwing I think. Some has been done, more is obviously needed.

Our hypocritical system doesn’t care about people in general – they call it freedom or something to enable people to get lost in the complex and futile world politicians and their business and finance-merchants funders have created. We are free to vanish into hell while we are alive, but after we die the authorities will demand every detail, suddenly we are significant, important – for the records. Interesting to think that this was true of the Nazis – they were precise on their records.

In the link above there is this sentence – One of Ariki’s social media accounts includes a photo of her posing with patched Mongrel Mob Flaxmere members on August 27. In a quote in one of Denis O’Reilly’s links below it says that the gangs have been made convenient whipping boys… I wonder if they had any role in this girl’s life and death?

The public have a set of rituals they go through that are regarded as suitable ways to express sadness on a death or loss. The dead person is said to have been a wonderful happy person, with great gifts. Just not happy in themselves. And there is often reference to ‘unnecessary’ death, which is a strange term to use, as we don’t talk about necessary deaths do we? Then there is this phrase from the link ‘”…my sister didn’t deserve to die like that, nobody, nobody deserves that,’ How did that word ‘deserve’ become part of the regular death rite comments?

We don’t do enough thinking about life and how we live it, and it shows up in our inadequate expressions about violence and death. What we all deserve is better lives that we are able to create for ourselves with our own actions and volition, caring for ourselves, our family, and in a whole community that we support and that returns that support. It would be good to turn around the words reprisal and pay-back so they have good connotations, become words for returns of good, not threats, demands, violence. One good turn deserves another must be embedded in society, and particularly in people on benefits, and those receiving retirement money, everybody can give some help to keep society ticking or add some zing to our lives, instead of so much trauma. Civil volunteers would fill most of the gaps we have, and that means everyone will be part of the nation-building team. For instance I am
and the others here on this blog, giving thought to how our society could be better, thought and discussion is work; but of course some physical work is necessary but need not be irksome if following some personal interest.

We need more concern and co-operation for each other, and that will only come about if we learn how to respond better to each other, how to shape ourselves, our thoughts and behaviour, and particularly our ways with our children. We have a large number of young men and growing number of young women, who are uncaring of others, becoming vicious, and want to live as outlaws. I think it is bad, but my caring side says that it is partly because of oppressive laws, and hard times as children in poor company, poor parenting and bad role modelling and that includes from our politicians, professional people who we should be able to trust to have small faults, but can get away with large ones under this laissez faire system that goes beyond application to trading; that has led to the rejection of society’s norms.

Listening to and working with Hawkes Bay’s Denis O’Reilly and *Black Power leaders there has helped to limit the violence, dissatisfaction and ongoing problems they face, though crime still occurs. But that has become entrenched in the country. It is directly related to the lack of action that an intelligent democracy would instigate to start and assist parents and children to find a good path in life that is achievable. Unfortunately our trusted politicians noted we were getting rather sloppy as a country and thought in their sloppy way that they would remedy this by abandoning their role and selling off bits to business interests to manage. But we are stuck with the result and the question
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:34…

Our dereliction of duty as citizens began in the 1960s when the Mongrel Mob** started associating (mainly European male youths.) and then to 1974-76 to the irresponsible mindset of government’s vicious Dawn Raids on Pacific Islanders. This was particularly because so soon after WW2 when all NZs fought to retain a good society moving to a better future. (Notice that the start of Back Power was in the 1970s.)

Long-dead fish, flowers and insects are offering a window into our past
University of Otago scientist Daphne Lee’s new book Fossil Treasures of Foulden Maar is a glimpse into Otago’s paleontological site of international importance.
Foulden Maar is the site of interest for a commercial mining company, which has gone into receivership. The site is locked to the outside world and still has no legal protection.

I think that this site needs a political advocate.
