Tourism. Having destroyed our small internal businesses and desiring lots of imported things we had to open up NZ to get international moneys from esports and huge tourism and the infrastructure needed, and the foreign bugs and insects and viruses that came with them. Even if Covid at present has killed off 35 people 10 in their 60.s and similar in their 70s and the rest 80 and 90, so cheated some and dealt with full-life oldies, we still have beds full of sick people from Covid.

But the tourism people want to go back to green. Let’s regard them as enemies of the people. But the trouble is so also are their enablers, the politicians and their funders, and the banks that sit like contented Buddhas.

  2. This news is relevant as it shows the prototype buying up NZ as their plaything, becoming our land lords. Which Key gave us the impression was not the ‘thing’. Bullying usd he was, the nasty person, and lying about what he foresee for us from his measures. No wonder he didn’t cut the welfare back more because he wanted the green and pleasant land to exist for his wealthy buddies.

His affection for New Zealand started in 1979, after he decided to visit because it was “not the United States” and which he described as “one of the most beautiful places on Earth”.

It was renewed in the 1990s when he started buying property, first a sheep farm near Matauri Bay in Northland in 1995, which he developed into the Kauri Cliffs championship golf course and luxury lodge. That was followed by the Matakauri Lodge near Queenstown, and The Farm at Cape Kidnappers, Hawke’s Bay, which also features a renowned golf course.
He also owned the Dry River vineyard in the Wairarapa.

In 2009 he donated 15 pieces from his personal art collection, including works by Cezanne, Picasso and Matisse, valued at more than $100m to the Auckland Art Gallery, which led to him being made an honorary knight of New Zealand.

Robertson and his wife also established the Aotearoa Foundation, which donated funds to education, conservation and environmental groups, and medical research.

John Christopher in his book The Guardians dealt with the wish to keep the pleasant countryside existing and the cities to contain the ravening hordes of annoying, arguing people. Nut the peaceful countryside did use oppression and armed forces to guard privilege, argument was not allowed, that was the price of peace and heritage; conservative values were triumphant.

  3. Ms Carmel Sepuloni is confident that the bad past will not be repeated with its horrid chid abuse, occurring when we the=ought we were near the height of being civilised and caring. The latest ‘caring’ Bill has been passed which it seems will ensure that everything has changed by carryiing on in a similar way as we have in the past in a present that is lower and diminishing in caring and civilisation, preparing us to be drowned in the ‘sinking’ coastline when we get low enough. She is a fool if she thinks we can be fooled by all this busyness.

The Oversight of Oranga Tamariki System Bill and the Children and Young People’s Commission Bill have passed their Third Reading in Parliament.

“We want Aotearoa New Zealand to be the best place in the world to be a child, which is why we’ve taken the steps neccessary to strengthen monitoring, complaints processes and advocacy for our children and young people,” Minister for Social Development and Employment Carmel Sepuloni said.

“These Bills are an important stepping stone towards ensuring we can avoid the errors of the past. I’m confident that these Bills will also make a positive difference for our children and young people,” Carmel Sepuloni said.

  4. dhat sells ut in supermarkets along with bread – toilet paper. Time to say I like the brand, I’ll buy the factory!
For more than a fortnight 145 factory workers in Kawerau, a New Zealand town with a population of about 7,000, have been locked out by Essity, a Swedish-based multinational company. The Kawerau plant makes well-known brands such as Purex and Sorbent toilet paper and Handee paper towels.
Essity management took the brutal step on August 9 after workers took limited strike action, having rejected a pay increase of just 3 percent over three years and a lump sum payment of $4,500. The offer was well below the increased cost of living, with New Zealand’s annual inflation rate at 7.3 percent.

Now there is a point here to consider. Most toilet paper is sold by supermarkets. Are the supermarkets trying to look as if they are offering lower prices by keeping t/p cheaply – as there are some quite low? So are we being hoist on our own petard here? Is there no room for a better wage rise and a profit for this business so far from home?

Supermarkets – I have bought my choccy bics for only $2 – lowest ever. But meat is still sky high. I’m doing some vegan meals but I don’t see that as the answer. Or Frankenstein mixtures from our factory to your face. Clean living animals and a fast death and properly managed slaughter is still appropriate for availability in food, not to have mince and sausages at $20 kilo turned into a luxury FGS.

  6. Salman Rushdie could lose sight in one eye and permanent arm damage in the recent knifing of him from a long ago fatwa – not long enough in memory. (Will we have to undergo memory-wiping or stop education and information to the masses if we can only receive, but not process the info we get? Do we need to learn restraint and control as part of education which should come with a warning – ‘the recipients of this info could find that it needs dilution’ or similar. ) Not only Rushdie was villified, but his trslator was murdered and his publisher wounded as a result of the fatwa.

    https://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL2208/S00035/the-maybe-mob-and-the-rushdie-attack.htm
Declared by the Iran’s sickly spiritual ruler, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Rushdie’s remarkable crime was to have blasphemed against the Prophet Muhammad in the novel The Satanic Verses. The supreme leader, having hardly distinguished himself in a bloody war against Iraq, needed a supreme distraction.

The entire exercise was an example of how irony and humour have no place for dour, dogmatic priestliness. How dare an author, in a work of fiction, playfully and plausibly claim that the Prophet was not the sole editor of the message to Angel Gibreel (Gabriel), and that Satan had cheekily inserted his role into it? And that this was done using the medium of Gibreel Farishta’s hallucinations?

Dare Rushdie did, and this exhortation to state-sanctioned killing of an author and all those associated with translating and disseminating the book exposed the underbelly of cowardice that often accompanies attempts to defend literary freedoms. Rushdie’s translator Hitoshi Igarashi was, in fact, murdered, while his Norwegian publisher, William Nygaard, was gravely wounded. The Turkish translator, Aziz Nesin, escaped a mob assault that led to 37 deaths in Silvas, Turkey.

It was one thing to find fanatics who had never read the book and wished to do away with the author in a fit of state subsidised zealotry. But then there was that camp: those who, in principle, opposed the fatwa but still wished to attack Rushdie as an act of cultural understanding and solidarity with his enemies. (Grahame Wood of The Atlantic calls them the “Team To Be Sure”, who rubbished the West’s free speech defence of Rushdie, claiming that mischief might have been averted if only he hadn’t been so inclined to offend.)
The events of 1989 cast a long shadow. There were those in holy orders, who thought that the Ayatollah had a point. There was Dr. Robert Runcie, Archbishop of Canterbury, who called for a strengthening of blasphemy laws to cover religions other than Christianity, though he was also careful to “condemn incitement to murder or any other violence from any source whatever.” Very Church of England.
