EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist language, homophobic language, racist language, anti-muslim hate, transphobic language, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.
300 per week now coming in with the virus really pisses me of when we (most of us) have worked really hard to avoid Covid. But the risks are increasing cause our governments has taken their foot of the peddle too much and given in to all the moaning and bitching about the hassle for overseas travelers.
They are all worn out, limp as a wet rag and need some strengthening medicine; unfortunately all the medicine is needed for the burgeoning Pandemic Series 3? So bring your popcorn and watch the spectacle of Labour being hoist on its own petard. (It’s the previously unknown sequel after the Lord of the Rings.)/sarc

I’m reading a series about old Lancashire. The one covering doings in mid 1800s is about the growth of their newspapers, (The Northern Correspondent by Jean Stubbs), This states the tenets of the Manchester Guardian 3 May 1848 in answer to Manchester Examiner, 2 May 1848:
It may be desirable that some journals should be tools and instruments; and, if they refuse to obey the word of command, of course they do violate the contract … but we object to be judged by the rules applicable to such cases. We have not undertaken to obey, and we will not obey, any man or set of men whatever …’
It’s interesting to read their vow at this later time, just a hip, hop to 200 years ago.

IIRC in London there were squats. There was legislation made – surprisingly – giving some legal standing for such behaviour. Someone with knowledge might like to enlarge on my sketchy memory.
