  1. Oh hell hear this about Sri Lanka from ColdFusion. I keep thinking as I listen that NZ could be in the same motorway! Oh hell my hedgehog prickles can’t withstand the pressure. You can’t manage a country as if you are playing a video game or just a royal imperative. What now – small countries need to meet and discuss real life and how to withstand the predator capitalism. Greece and Yannis Varoufakis et al would have something to add.

  2. We must take note of what NZ is. A country parading itself as being among the top (as did Sri Lanka) but which cannot look after its children in a humane way is not even on the second rung of the ladder of true civilisation. These children so poorly looked after fell into a hole that occurred after WW2 which we fought with others to save ourselves as a decent, free country in a world the same. There has been no rest till the wealthy have obtained freedom for themselves but the decency withered, half-grown. diseased and died.

Survivors have bravely spoken about the physical, sexual, emotional and medical abuse suffered while in state care.
Twenty-three survivor witnesses, their whānau, or staff at institutions will give evidence about their time in care or working at care facilities throughout the country between 1950 and 1999.
They have described the hell they endured from disabled girls being raped while boys were forced to watch, to brutal assaults, over-medication and a level of dehumanisation akin to concentration camps.
Alison Pascoe, now 80, has never had a mental illness and said she should never have been placed into care.
Growing up in a violent household, a severe bout of chickenpox saw her shipped to a health farm with 300 children.
Pascoe was then committed to a psychiatric institution at the age of eight to 48 years (1955-1990).
The abuse Pascoe suffered impacts her to this day with one nurse particularly sadistic in her treatment.
“She tried to make me eat my own faeces, drink my own urine, that’s not normal in a job like that is it?”
She said the neglect and abuse could be fatal and she often bore witness to murder by medical overdose.

We apparently have been brought up on propaganda as filthy as any bad communist stuff. Now to hold a vision of the beliefs that we aim for I suggest we follow the theme of being the Good Garden where people raise tender plants to healthy growth and everybody gets to study horticulture, with medically trained being the epitome of the professions. We must do this as the hard sciences, mastering of business or the hum of humanities turning out ritual virtue signalling unburdened by practical humanity, and smothered in patronising hypocrisy, seem to turn out smooth, complacent little Al Capone or choose your own favoured miscreant or fantasist.

  3. In pre-civilisation days some savages sacrificed people to their gods for some reason. Today we have some queer penchant for sexuality in all its forms. Have gone full circle to weirdness, unreason and cruelty.

This USA official is demanding that a doctor reveal personal information to authorities about a patient and at the same time is considering whether the doctor can be charged with violating privacy laws. Mad.
In a statement posted online, along with a letter addressed to Indiana’s governor, state Attorney General Todd Rokita said Dr Caitlin Bernard could face “criminal prosecution and licensing repercussions” if she failed to file the required reports on time.
Both Rokita and the governor, Eric Holcomb, are Republicans.
“We are investigating this situation and are waiting for the relevant documents to prove if the abortion and/ or abuse were reported,” Rokita’s statement said. “The failure to do so constitutes a crime in Indiana.”
Rokita added that he would also examine whether the doctor had violated federal patient privacy laws.

We however are looking into really bad behaviour in NZ’s institutions under state control in the past.

Perhaps some of the protesters have been in compulsory ‘care’? That would tend to make them anti – and also those in their family and who know them. So may be each one of the Lake Alice or other abyse events has resulted in another 10 to 100 people uneasy or disdaining government interventions said to be for their good. Are we being ‘hoist on our own petard’ as a country with innocent people bearing the brunt from a ripple effect started long ago?

  4. From Scoop – keeping up with the ‘play’.

Environmentalists are flabbergasted that Aotearoa’s crown research group NIWA has signed a contract to work with global deep sea miner The Metals Company, right at the time when a growing number of Pacific Island countries are calling for a moratorium on deep-sea mining in international waters.

The company announced this week that NIWA and its Australian counterpart CSIRO would be working with the mining company to provide an environmental assessment report. The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is due to meet next week to continue finalising the rules around seabed mining in international waters, but a growing chorus of countries are calling for a moratorium, including Palau, Fiji, Samoa and the Federated States of Micronesia, French President Emmanual Macron, and the Portuguese and Chilean Governments.

I looked up the background to this ferry service. IIRR it was bought by some UK firm that buys up world sea services. The NZ operator was having difficulties I think. But under this owner, the timetable can be unreliable, people with appointments, jobs, to go to have been left at the wharf when there has been no room. People wishing to live the life with some isolation may have to be prepared for lengthy breaks from the mainland. The rich might share their own plane, helicopter and also charge it out for emergency help.
