PSNA is pleased the Israel Institute has remove an Islamophobic tweet from their Twitter account.
We wrote to the Institutes David Cumin last night asking it be removed and it is no longer accessible.
The tweet featured a prominent picture of Al Aqsa Mosque in Occupied East Jerusalem associated in the story with an alleged Iranian cyber attack on Israeli citizens.
“The tweet was blatantly Islamophobic in linking Islam with alleged Iranian cyber attacks on Israel.”
“It was also aggressively anti-Palestinian by aligning Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied Palestine with the cyber attackers when there is no link whatever”
The Israel Institute tweet was here:
The Israel Institute did not create the Islamophobic image or put it in the story.
However, by tweeting this story they were amplifying Islamophobic and racist anti-Palestinian messages. This is not acceptable.
In the context of Aotearoa New Zealand in particular the image is deeply offensive.
“The March 15 terrorist attacks did not come from a vacuum. They came, in significant part, from the normalisation of Islamophobia online as this tweet did”
We pointed out to Mr Cumin that if an image were posted which linked Judaisim with Israeli war crimes then the Israel Institute would be quick, and correct, to condemn it as anti-semitic and demand it be removed. We would agree.
We said the same should apply to the image in this story which is blatantly Islamophobic and anti-Palestinian.
We are pleased he agrees.
David Cumin responded after this blogpost went up and wants to clarify that “we don’t see anything egregious with the image but agree it’s not a good representation of the story. As you mentioned, it was chosen by the outlet and we have no way of changing or vetting it. It’s now down”
The very quintessence of the kind of hypocrisy we have come to expect from Mr Minto.

Why do you think it’s funny to rape and kill Palestinian kids, Gaby?
Your favourite fetish, eh White? One can only pity you. Seek help.
Are you saying this doesn’t happen Gaby or what are you saying, No engagement Gaby is your real name.
This is quite old Gaby and what is more it talks about Neil Scott, not Minto at all. Lies lies lie, you don’t want to engage you just want to lie and put out little things but no real debate about any of it at all.
Racism has no place in this country. We are home to the peoples of more than 145 nation’s. We are one.
That’s not my Iwi. I’m Tuhoe.
We are not one, there was a saying in 1981 – paint them black and send them back (so that white springbock could find out what it was like to be black in their apartheid state).
Racism is rife in Aotearoa and if you don’t know that talk to a few non white people.
I’m Islamophobic and I’m Christianity-phobic, any religion-phobic.
No apologies from me.
I tolerate their existence but remain ever vigilant that the often poisonous dogmas of religions exert any influence on the way I conduct my life without my consent.
As far as religions go I stand with the enlightenment.
edit “….don’t exert any….'”
Amen to that Richard…oops I mean I’m with you brother!
A devotee of the Marquis de Sade, perchance?
If you think anything thats pro-Israel is Islamophobic then you’re no better than the zionists who accuse you of being antisemitic for supporting palestine
Let alone the fact they ( Jews and Arabs) are all Semites anyway!
The crusty old ‘they’re all semites’ ploy. Look up a dictionary, if you know how to use one, and see if the definition of antisemitism mentions ‘Arab’ anywhere.
Care the argue with Oxford Gaby?
Semite
/ˈsiːmʌɪt,ˈsɛmʌɪt/
noun
a member of any of the peoples who speak or spoke a Semitic language, including in particular the Jews and Arabs.
The irony here is that Israel is populated by Jewish people who have absolutely no DNA links to the Middle East and who never spoke Semitic languages. Therefore those, probably like yourself, who label all and sundry as ‘anti-Semitic’ are probably abusively name-calling on very dubious grounds.
Poor reading skills, aom….again. I said ANTISEMITISM. This term APPLIES ONLY TO JEWS as every dictionary will attest. Another bullet hole in your foot.
When you are in a semantic hole – stop digging. This is more critical when you are digging deeply into your usual bullshit supply.
Now please explain, if the term APPLIES ONLY TO JEWS, are you really asserting that no-one can be antisemitic UNLESS they are Jewish?
@aom – she asked you to look up the definition of antisemite, not semite. Antisemite is a misnomer but we all know it means Jew hater
@aom, you were asked to look up the definition of antisemite, not semite. Antisemite is a misnomer but we all know it means jew hater. Stop being disingenuous
No need to buy into Gaby’s childish hasbara game of demanding referral to a dictionary. As you say,”Antisemite (sic) is a misnomer but we all know it means jew (sic) hater”. Appropriated language is not new and common usage is well established. The interest lay around the most likely original root word, not the vernacular. Incidentally, dictionaries generally refer to ‘anti-semitism’ with a hyphen. Why is that?
Obviously Gaby doesn’t know since the hyphen has been omitted in his/her comments so perhaps the reference to a dictionary comment was misplaced.
As is the way with language, the indiscriminate use and ‘weaponization’ of the term ‘anti-semitism’ appears to be reducing its currency. In effect it is only another synonym for the term ‘racism’ anyway.
Cry more. We know very well that the Palestinians, the descendants of the original Philistine inhabitants, are the only indigenous people with any claim to anywhere in Palestine, from the Jordan to the sea.
Minto is pro cancel culture and against free speech. shame on him
Hypocrisy is the name of the game here.
Please point me in the direction of where you got this information about Minto and his being against free speech and pro cancel culture, I am really interested to know.
Michel did you not read the article? He’s bragging about a tweet being removed because he disagreed with it
We licked Ben and Jerry’s boycott. Ah, the sweet taste of victory.

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield must upset you. They wrote in the New York Times last July that they supported Israel but opposed its “illegal occupation” of the West Bank, hence Unilever got out of ice cream production in Israel. Of course, the Israel outfit that now produces the ice cream can’t export so effectively, BDS hasn’t failed.
This story still hasn’t completely unfolded yet.

There is no such thing as Islamophobia, it is literally impossible for it to exist.
A phobia is an irrational fear of something and there is nothing irrational about fearing such a draconian religion.
Everywhere that Islam is the dominant religion is what Trump would, with a charming turn of phrase, call a shithole.
Islamics not only fuck up their own countries, but escape them only to try to fuck up their new countries.
At least Catholics have reformed to the point that they aren’t a threat to the way of life of the countries they inhabit, although it would be nice if all religions did fuck right off.
Come on Jays Christianity has done much the same throughout the ages.
Actually many of those countries have been fucked over by the West in particular the U.S.A.
You are correct, hence my comment regarding Catholics.
However right now, Islam is the most dangerous religion by far.
A black South African calls out the ‘apartheid’ slur against Israel and BDS for what they are..BS!
