Amnesty International labels Israel as an apartheid state 

Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa welcomes Amnesty International’s ground-breaking declaration of Israel as an apartheid state.

Titled “Israel’s Apartheid against Palestinians” the 211-page report concludes that the occupation state has imposed a “cruel system of domination” and is committing “crimes against humanity.”

“Our report reveals the true extent of Israel’s apartheid regime. Whether they live in Gaza, East Jerusalem and the rest of the West Bank, or Israel itself, Palestinians are treated as an inferior racial group and systematically deprived of their rights. We found that Israel’s cruel policies of segregation, dispossession and exclusion across all territories under its control clearly amount to apartheid. The international community has an obligation to act”

Amnesty’s declaration comes on the heels of reports last year from B’Tselem, Israel’s largest human rights organisation, which declared Israel to be “A regime of Jewish supremacy from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea: This is apartheid” and from the Nobel-Peace-Prize-winning US-based organisation Human Rights Watch which release a 213-page report detailing how Israeli policies constitute crimes of apartheid and persecution.

As the largest and most respected international human rights organisation the declaration from Amnesty International demands robust international action against Israel and international support for BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) against Israel just as the world did in the case of South Africa.

Palestinians and South Africans have always seen Israeli policies as apartheid. The rest of the world is now catching up.

“This is a welcome development. There is no place to hide”, says PSNA National Chair John Minto.

In the words of the international expert on apartheid, the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa “to be silent in the face of oppression is to take the side of the oppressor”.

  5. NZ is an apartheid state too. Two classes of citizens as Jacinda said. Though I think Minto has pointed that out, so there is consistency in his thinking.

    • Yup good point – 2 health systems and ‘positive discrimination’ has been pretty entrenched for a few decades now (sure sounds like apartheid to me).

      Of course all acceptable because the people being discriminated against are white.

      • James (love the irony) Brown do you really believe there will be two different health systems in NZ? The only significant difference will be in delivery. This is salient as the existing structure is grossly defective. The covid vaccination responses should tell you why and points to the potential remedy.

        What was the point of you defective of ‘apartheid’? Did you omit one basic criteria on purpose in obfuscation? Apartheid is a form of oppression that is imposed by whoever holds the greatest power. This can be by force and/or through control over the governance system (as in the case of Israel). Obviously this doesn’t apply in respect of Maori as you claim.

The real problem is that anyone who criticises Israel is then labelled an antisemitic, and people are very nervous about that, gee look how they suffered in kthe holocaust, yes we know they did and now they make the Palestinians suffer every day who had nothing at all to do with the holocaust.           More than 65 Israeli laws already exist that discriminate against Palestinians in Israel and the occupied territories.
          Basic Law: Israel Lands (1960) stipulates ownership of “Israel lands” – controlled by the state, Jewish National Fund (JNF) and the Development Authority – can only be transferred between the three entities, knowing that the JNF leases land it owns to Jews only.
          Palestinian citizens are blocked from leasing about 80 percent of the land controlled by the state
          According to the Absentees’ Property Law (1950), Palestinian refugees expelled after November 29, 1947, are “absentees” and are denied any rights. Their land, houses/apartments, and bank accounts (movable and immovable property) were confiscated by the state.
          Since 1967, nearly 15,000 Palestinians from East Jerusalem have had their residency rights revoked, according to the Interior Ministry.
          In March 2018, Israel passed a law allowing the interior minister to revoke the residency rights of any Palestinian in Jerusalem on the grounds of a “breach of loyalty” to Israel.
          The interior minister can strip the residency status of any Palestinian deemed to be a threat. These policies do not apply to the Jewish population.

          Did I make these up Gaby or do you conveniently not acknowledge that these are real and apply to only Palestinians!

        • Gaby your response is foolish, you don’t have to have separate signs to have an apartheid state you just have laws. Now did you know Gaby in that wonderful country you go into bat for that schools are segregated and spending per head on education is much higher for Jews than Palestinian citizens of Israel and so the exam results are much better for Jews

          Israel is NOT a Jewish state. 20% of Israeli citizens are Palestinians and to say these people have no right to self-determination in the land of their ancestors is blatantly racist (this is stated in the Nation-state law). In fact it is racist to claim Israel is a Jewish state because it automatically makes Palestinians second class citizens and this is reflected across all areas of life in Israel.

      Otherwise, have you had a logic bypass? States can have more than one identifying feature. In the case under discussion, apartheid and the self proclaimed Jewish state are not mutually exclusive.

      and lets face it the anti-zionist fundamentalist jews have created their own apartheid within the state of isreal…a state which incidentally DOES have the right to exist…but it’s far far far from the old kibbutznik ideal and has become a right wing state effectively ruled by a fundamentalist veto…and they won’t even fight in the IDF.

    I’m really curious as to your motivation to be so willingly blind. It’s time for you to fess up and disclose the source of your indoctrination.
    Don’t be shy, we all have our cultural Achilles heels. It’s a maturity thing and we can become more broad minded with age and education, usually. But, for the seriously brain-washed there is no hope. Hopeless denial of the obvious just looks feeble indeed. Israel is an Apartheid State, one of the worst. So give it up babe.
    I was raised as Catholic so know a little bit about indoctrination and how difficult it is to remove the scales from the eyes. Culture and traditions are important but having humanity in all we do is more important.
    Let me say I’m pleased to see a little progress and reward for all the hard yakka put in by PSNA.

    • You might be interested to learn that I lived in apartheid era South Africa. I’ve also spent time in Israel. There is NO APARTHEID in Israel. You are the myopic one, oh deluded and sickeningly patronizing person.

      • And it was all cosy for you in SA was it Gaby. Isn’t it interesting 3 major organisations now say it is an apartheid state but no you can’t stomach any of them.

        In my life time it will be one state with equal access for all and I have no doubt a shared parliament.

        It is the gutlessness of the world who don’t want to upset the US that this has gone on for sooooo long. But the US as we all know is on the downward slide and when it gets down there they won’t give a shit about Israel.     In fact Israel has a universal franchise which includes one and a half Israeli citizens of Arab origin. So not apartheid.
    Meanwhile the Palestinian Authority and Hamas in Gaza avoid holding elections because they fear being booted out by their own people. They torture and murder their Arab opposition and kill homosexuals.

    If you are white or “coloured” in SA, you are a 2nd or 3rd class citizen.

  11. there always was Zef (white trash culture) in SA it’s just that the white cheerleaders for racism chose to ignore them and pretend they didn’t exist to bolster the image of the success of SA policy…now the well off beneficiaries of discrimination have bailed (many to NZ) the rump of the poor whites are left to struggle like the ‘coloureds’ always have done…so yea poverty not race.
