Simon Bridges demoted by National Party leader Judith Collins following serious misconduct allegation involving historic interaction with MP Jacqui Dean

Former National Party leader Simon Bridges has been demoted and “relieved of his portfolio responsibilities” following an allegation of serious misconduct relating to an interaction with a female caucus colleague.

National leader Judith Collins announced Bridges’ demotion in a release just after 9pm on Wednesday.

The MP who laid the complaint against Simon Bridges is understood to be Jacqui Dean. It is understood to relate to crude comments Bridges made at a function about five years ago.

Bridges is understood to have been talking with a group of about three fellow MPs, including Jami-Lee Ross and Todd McClay, when Dean walked past and the Tauranga MP called to her and made the comment.

Dredging up comments from half a decade ago to shank the main contender to your leadership is a move so audacious only Collins would attempt it.

She loves power the way Great White Sharks love blood!

Some of the woke will scream this is evidence of the heteronormative cis male patriarchy bully culture etc etc etc plus half a dozen phone numbers to call if you are feeling triggered, but beyond the Wellington Twitteratti and people who donate to the Spinoff, everyone else will see a political leader attempting a spiteful character assassination of her main challenger.

I’ve known Simon for 2 decades and while he pops out the odd Dad joke, there simply isn’t a sleazy energy to him.

To smear him for a comment made 5 years ago is a vile and calculated means to destroy his challenge to her rule.

Judith tricked Nick Smith into resigning so her mate could come in off the list and cement into place a naked 51% majority and we all remember the casual violence of Judith blowing Ian Lees-Galloway’s brains all over the AM Show studio for his affair so as to throw off any criticism of her handling of Falloon’s dick pics.

That she would stab Simon Bridges repeatedly in the face to make him ugly to the electorate for some dumb comment made half a decade ago is a reminder that Judith will use power any way she wants.

I think the appetite to actively forgive these types of behavior when they get dredged up is far more powerful than woke puritan outrage.

I think Judith has overplayed her hand and that the Caucus will now see the sociopathic gleam in her eye and realize she could never be trusted with the actual Prime Ministership and Executive Power.

You get the cold feeling that Judith’s threshold for Martial Leeaw is very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, e very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, low.

Quite low.

Before this fiasco, Judith was breathlessly telling the media earlier in the day that there was no poll number too low that she wouldn’t be prepared to plumb to remain as leader.

She didn’t care how low National’s polling fell (in fact she’s stopped paying for internal polling so as to not spook her caucus) and her message of defiance that she would destroy the Party before step down is about as close to political kamikaze as you can get.

Are her backbenchers really that fanatical that they’ll risk losing their seat?

That level of self survival was the trigger for turning on Bridges in the first place with the Muller coup.

Nothing makes a National MP braver than thinking they might have to get a real job, this could be the catalyst that forces the liberal and socially conservative factions together.

Simon just got one step closer to being the new leader of the National Party. Luxon will be his Deputy.

PS – Simon is booked to appear on our first Political Podcast ‘The Working Group‘ 7.30pm this Monday with David Seymour & Damien Grant.

  1. “Mark” complained about Bridges, didn’t you know? He wants to clear the way fo rthe preferred PRC candidate, Luxon. Didn’t you know?

    • Inclined to agree. It is all about Luxon being lined up for the role which Judy Two Matronly Shoes who ‘conducted her great business’ will vacate ‘ere noon’. WS #RatherDelicious

    • Well, then. Roll on Luxon, the pre-anointed leader in the leadership vacuum of the National Party that has grown no other viable leadership talent or options.

But Luxon has no political profile to speak of, and no experience, other than as the anointed novice. He is said to be an evangelistic God botherer. Perhaps he has a great sense of humour, or some other traits that might endear him to the electorate, but none of them, if any exist, has yet become evident.

The National Party has a problem. It’s caucus members don’t look or sound like the majority of the electorate does in 2021. Nor does it have policy that most people want to hear. Instead, they look and sound like the old-fashioned, privileged white, middle and upper-class fold, including its devils wearing Prada, who are well off, and who aren’t that worried about anyone else, like the poor. And if you have rich, then by definition, you also have poor. That’s what you get with the National Party. Poverty, and plenty of it.

Mind you, you also get some of that that with Labour in government nowadays, having shifted its ideological ground to accommodate the so-called centre-Right in order to Hoover up what it sees as the centre.

In any event, the National Party has evacuated hope of furthering its born-to-rule role as the default government, while Labour, despite its multiplicity of faults, has now shrugged off its image of the government you have while you’re not having a government.

Despite his apparent evangelism, Luxon will need all of his God’s assistance to become the leader, and to achieve any more success than the lengthening list of what may become his defrocked predecessors.

    • Clarify. Luxton is the preferred candidate of the recreated ‘ 1938 NZ People’s Party – an ultra right party which out of office rising political star Keith Holyoake was planned to lead K Sinclair. NZ History; C James NZ National Party History / C James doyen NZ political writer, journalist. or the PLA, PLN shadow communist party in NZ.

  2. Have to agree with everything you said Martyn. This purge is more clumsy than a late 1930’s Stalinistic Terror Raid. Simon obviously had the numbers so rather than concede defeat, Callins makes sure that you throw enough muck on your threat that even if they are successful in beating you, you’ve sabotaged them enough that they’d fail when they take you over.

You know the MSM and the left wing twitterari (to me they are the same) will feast on this forever. Just when Labour are ramming through frightening laws and are slipping in the polls, National takes a 12 gauge and shoots itself in the foot.

We have a terrible government and an equally terrible opposition.

But how happy will David Seymour be?

  3. Cancel culture is just another sign of the Americanisation of our politics. I see a canoe coach said something 20-odd years ago in Stuffed is about to be canceled……

This is a last roll of the dice here. It’s obvious at a time when National should be looking to look more like a government there is still a retarded game of thrones contest going on behind the scenes. Watch for Act to be in the low 20s in the next poll.

    • Keeping it real as always Frankie unlike Bg who managed to turn it into a Labour thing, a little like Collins he/ she is so desperate. But this is something Frankie you will be very pleased with. A new leader will be the catalyst for Nationals resurrection and the regaining of ACT party votes. More importantly it will also be the catalyst for the disgruntled Labour, centre voters to swing back Nationals way. My distaste for dirty politics runs deep and the demise of Collins will almost certainly purge National of the last of the horrid politics National stood for. This is something you have predicted Frankie.

    • this is an extreme right whinge leader ‘cancelling’ another right whinger…so hardly ‘woke’ just good old fashioned knife in the back when it’s convenient…..bet she didn’t expect her demise too though.

good to see the rats fighting and clawing at each other…may be good for labour but may be bad as she was pretty much unelectable.

  4. Cameron Slater to Judith Collins.

The move to dump you is gaining momentum. As soon as all of the caucus is back in Wellington, Bridges and Luxon will make their move. Word is they have the numbers. Judith asks her advisor, what should I do?

Whale blubber replies, get out our black book we keep on all our rivals and enemies. There is some irrelevant interchange in there from years ago between Bridges and xxxxx. Judith replies, brilliant! if I use that BS to find him guilty and send him packing I will look like a strong leader with a moral compass in these woke times and all the others will shit themselves and be too frightened to contemplate a move against me. Whale sludge replies. Yes Queen J and you will also be able to stop telling your caucus to “stay focused”. Judith laughs.

Job done…….apart from another chapter being created for Dirty Politics II.

  5. The obvious question is why does this suddenly come up now? It’s hard not to believe there hasn’t been some active digging to try and find dirt. Without knowing what was allegedly said in passing or in any way trying to justify it, one would have to say that if a person expects to take on a position in the rough and tumble of parliament and is going to be traumatised for 5 years by a passing comment then they are probably not in the right vocation. I’d agree with Martyn that the picture Collins is trying to paint of Bridges just doesn’t seem to fit. The most hypocritical part is Collins saying “”Under my leadership, the National Party will not tolerate harassment and intimidation of any person.” Obviously that doesn’t apply to her treatment of her own MPs. There are so many fronts that an effective opposition could put this Labour government under pressure on. If this doesn’t convince the National MPs to roll Collins, develop a united front and do the job they were elected to, then nothing will. If they have a backbone then Collins should be ‘Gone by lunchtime’.

    • cos her bosum buddy and pizza stained dweller in daddies basement slater never harrassed any one ever did he???

and yup I know he’s not a mp but very much part of the national establishment

  6. It’s gone to the TMO. Bridges has been diving for a try in the corner, Collins has monstored him, smashed him, crushed his head into the ground, put him out of play.

Judgement will be made from the replays.
Has Collins used her arms? Has she crunched him in the head? Is it a cynical, gratuitous violent attack rather than a genuine part of play?

Will she be lauded for a brilliant defensive effort?
Or will she be sent off for a dastardly deed. And will Bridges be awarded a penalty try, in under the posts?

  7. How about all the boys here wait until they’ve experienced what Dean did before shooting their mouths off ?

How about they join the gender-obsessed Greens and become women – it’s getting easier and easier – and feel what it is like to be objectified by males rather than avoiding the basic issue, which involved more than just a simple whistle from a tradie on a building site ?

How about talking with women who have experienced crass behaviour from persons with penises and it’s shocking impact, and the humiliating and debilitating shadows which can linger for years ?

How about asking if Bridges would have behaved crudely if he’d been standing alone, and not with cronies to
    show off to ?

How many blokes would never denigrate any woman ? Not many, it seems.

However convenient this occurrence may be for Collins, the fact remains that Dean was subjected to something which she should not have been, and time does not necessarily diminish it’s impact or import, except, it seems, in the minds of men.

    • How about recognising that unless we were there, on the spot, engaged enough to register exactly what was happening, we are victims of filtered information.

How about recognising that some years ago something happened that was dealt with at the time.

How about acknowledging that it’s possible that an incident that happened a while back is being cynically used for political purposes. How about accepting that claims of ‘post traumatic stress disorder’ is a rich field to use for all sorts of purposes.

How about accepting that some will conclude that given the shocking impact on and the humiliation of Jacqui Dean, and the debilitating shadows which have lingered for years, she must think they are best dealt with in this public way.

      • Agree, five years is too long ago for it suddenly to turn in a traumatic experience so convenient for Judy to use as a weapon against an opponent in such a ‘timely’ fashion. If anyone is causing trauma to national MPs… it’s Collins. The only thing not to like about the bag of cats that is National imploding is the blood supply to Act.

      • interesting isn’t it that PTSD used to be a severe psychological reaction often with physical manifestations to being shelled on the Somme for hours on end, now it’s result of some unwelcome perceived slight.

        • L0L !, YOUVE GOT IT IN ONE ! Lets try a little having your balls blown off, your head dissected, a playful bullet shearing off your arm or legs. Todays sniveling bunch need to hear the whistle blow, the Sar Major ordering the peasants over the parapets and on to barbed wire, machine guns and certain death.

          Wankers.

      • Are you joking. Taking this sort of political manoevering and hurt pride of the over indulged semi retired South Canterbury political aristocracy, might actually get you a 2/2 in History at Melbourne Uni in 2040. Course fees will be 3 billion Aotearoa dollars for indigenous NZ, Pakeha, Maori and cut price deals for Chinese, Russian and US citizens of joint administered idiocy.

    • Just heard what Dean’s “overheard,” crude man talk typical of Bridges, JLR etc. Not good and Bridges forced to apologize. But 5 years later, why has this reared it’s ugly head again Snow White, what or who instigated it, Cameron Slater my bet?

      • Bert – Collins has looked as if she’s unravelling for a while now and I think that I’ve mentioned that before – maybe she’s been set up. Who cares ?

My point here is the number of blokes who have never and may never experience being denigrated or heckled or insulted by males and the impact this can have, thinking themselves qualified to comment about it. The harassment of women in the Parliamentary precinct is nothing new.

About 15 years ago when an award winning Kiwi journalist, small and attractive, got into a lift one night with four male National MP’s, one of them asked her, “What’s it like being in a lift with four rapists ?” She subsequently left New Zealand and has not returned to work here again. As far as I know, the MP’s all faded into obscurity, one, the only name I that I can currently recall, was an ex- All Black.

Women learn to live with experiences like this and generally speaking, men don’t. These issues are reflected by our world-leading rates of being bashed, battered, and murdered.

I couldn’t care two hoots about either Simon or Judith, but Judith’s current antics have overshadowed something which should not have occurred, but is now being trivialised to score political points – and once again, the blokes all sticking together. Many of the older women in our families have tales to tell of words that have hurt, and have created lingering or damaging wounds.

        • And many men have been the subject of unwarranted conniving, vicious words by other women other than their wives ( often single and often lesbian/feminist ) to break up a family for their own warped sense of sisterhood. It cuts both ways. Because those men might have been your very sons subjected to that shitty abuse. Think about that for a minute.

        • I agree most of the supportive comments for Bridges have come from female journalists almost making excuses for him, The MSM do the general public a great disservice in treating us like morons. Judith Collins did this deliberately remember Ian Lees Galloway the way he and his family was thrown under the bus for his past behavior. Judith Collins did this for political gain not moral responsibility. She then sits in a church pew praying . If the Nats elect Bridges or Luxton they have proved they have learned nothing, Bridges has proved more than once his potty mouth and Luxton will be a John Key puppet and will be bringing his religious fervor to bear on the NZ populace

    • Actually I don’t think anyone is supporting the denigration of women. From what the reported comments were they were not directed to Dean. They were in relation to the Bridges attempts to conceive a girl. While the comment was slightly crude I would not consider it to be denigrating. Dean happened to overhear it. Bridges apologised for any offence. That should have been the end of it. Speaking as someone who knows from experience the difficulty of conceiving and the stress it caused my wife in particular, considering some of the comments we received and some of the jokes we made and got to relieve tension etc, the comment would not have even registered on our radar as something to be offended by. If anyone has denigrated Dean it is Collins by using this for her own particular political ends. Do you really believe she cares about Dean? The irony for Collins is that this will most likely backfire on her.

      • Well if you think its ok to openly talk about your personal issues in a mixed forum well that’s your prerogative so thats ok then however whats the excuses for his comments to Jamie Lee Ross firstly about the differing economic benefits about certain ethnic group’s and his comments about Maureen Pugh or is this too ok for the old boys brigade.

    • You comments are very true and most men can become feral when with some mates and drinking. I was a caterer for 10 years and provided food for functions involving bikers senior doctors teachers lawyers and my young female staff were the subject of many smart or offensive comments towards the end of the night from the men . In fact often the bikers were the best behaved . Twice I got letters of apoligy the next day . Unfortunately an apoligy does not undo the harm and the seed of doubt is sowed and cannot be removed.
Men need to realize the importance of putting the brain into action before the mouth opens . To often males are afraid of being called a wowser if they condemn sexist language. It needs to be talked about and sorted at school so the rot can be stopped before they get into the workforce

      • And it cuts both ways. I have seen and heard women egging on men to fight over them between men who are drunk. I have seen women lawyers, church leaders and the like going soft on women in favor of women despite being contrary to the evidence.

I don’t give a rats flying shit who you are, or who you think you are, man nor woman. If you are spouting bullshit to cover up your shitty malfeasance, your guilty. Charles Manson was never convicted of directly murdering people but he spent the rest of his life in jail because he bloody well manipulated people to do his will and get people murdered. Like Shitler.

        Think about that.

      • Trevor Sennett. Thank you for acknowledging what New Zealand women have to put up with – spoken like an English gent. Thank you for not saying “ she” should have gotten over it by now, when that is no-one else’s call to make.

Thing is, it shouldn’t happen at all. When it does, it says more about the man than the woman. Some men would never behave this way, and some, like you, do not defend or trivialise others’ crude behaviour, so thanks again Trevor.

        • Come on. Deans was not abused she overheard something that offended her, to my understanding. Well, don’t eavesdrop for one and for another, let what you hear be your guide. That is, your opinion of Bridges has been informed by what you overheard. If he directly addressed her with these crude comments then she can complain, which she did (but was she part of the convo? Do not know)… Five years ago. Sorry but this said abuse is a ‘bridge’ too far and also denigrates and minimises real abuse women do go through.

  8. We need a strong Government lead by David Seymour to sort out the mess the country’s in. The house needs cleaning.

    • Cleaning yes, but not by Seymour. ACT’s freemarket fundamentalism would be just as damaging as the wokeism of LINO and the so-called Greens.

    • @ Bob… You’re an idiot. Enough said. Moving on.
I picked up a very tasty green curry from a Thai eating house then hurried home to go full-face-down like a hog into it where there! Tucked in to the bag under my rice, I found a leaflet from the wacky ( read devious and cunning ) New Nation Party…! There was an apocalyptic photo of a tractor trundling over dead grass under a flaming sky..! I immediately thought ” Them fucking Natzos! They’re up to no good. Again.
I went to the NNP website ( http://www.nnparty.co.nz ) and sure enough! The rancid stink of the Natzo’s. Wearing a different skin but there they were. None of the members were farmers, that I could tell, and all spouted that same stale rhetoric. Proud! Hard Working! Our Nation! Wank, wank, wankity wank-wank.
The brainless rhetoric, the flaccid promises, the racism, sexism and bare arsed hypocrisy. They even stooped to below ground level to tweak Trumps MAGA cap to read Make-Adern-Go-Away which they then perched on top of a wee girls head. Even child exploitation isn’t beyond National’s new Zombie, The Walking Dead Party.
      Farmers ! ” Danger Will Robinson! Danger! ” https://youtu.be/RG0ochx16Dg
Farmers? You’re better than this garbage. I know you’re done being exploited by cunning fools so as they can simply get their soft little hands on your money but this isn’t the way to do it. You’ll get hammered in the media and you’ll get hated in the streets.
Rather than rubbing city people up the wrong way? Get city people on your side. And that’d be easy because city people need to eat. And they need to spend those agrarian export earned funds. Show kindness and sympathy. That stuff’s as catchy as a virus. Kindness and generosity is contagious. And if city people don’t, can’t or won’t return the good intentions of an out reached hand? Strike!
Strike. In about a week, after Daniel and Rebecca and their pink and clean kids Nathanial and Chlamydia eat Miss Floofums and Mr Poundtrousers the cloned thus matching-pair of labradoodlepoodlespoodles they’ll likely come around to a more co-operative approach to the people who make the money to keep AO/NZ’s head above the very, very deep, dark, empty ocean.
National’s tanking. It’s done for. And as I predicted, National will pull any and every trick in the book to avoid close scrutiny. The National Party has been exploiting agriculture to build personal citadels to greed in the leafy suburbs of Auckland ( and Queenstown! ) for generations.
Agriculture IS AO/NZ. There’s nothing else here that provides us with the money we need to function as a first world country. There’s never BEEN anything else which does that. ( There was gold ( and wool ) in the very early days of Otago, hence Dunedin but that was it)
As for One Nation…No it fucking isn’t! Maori are here… And Maori were here first ! AO of the AO/NZ thing stands for Aotearoa, you Natzo dipshits! You’re just making we non Maori look like the S-cunt-thorpes you are!
Maori have their Nation. It’s called Aotearoa! What, about that do the racist morons in The National Party and by extension the flaccid nob, the NNParty, not understand?
The New Nation Party are a tentacle of The National Party. I have no doubt at all that they’ll be funded by the National Party and their deep, dark and dirty riche Old Boys who’ve made billions from the blood sweat and tears of the very same farmers they cynically Trumpet on about supporting while exploiting and manipulating them.
      Here’s an idea farmers!
      The AO/NZ Farmers Union.
No arsing about with cliches and nonsensical head fuckery. Just clean, clear and hugely, mightily powerful.
      The Labour Party.
      The National Party.
      The ACT party.
      The Green Party
      The Maori Party.
      The NNP party.
They’re all infected with multi-generational corruptions designed to sequester export derived money past our farmers and into private pocketsesssssss.
And a great and economical thing about an undeniably and indusputabley powerful Farmers Union?
Leave the fleas where they are, where we can see them. It’s just that we’d be able to make them do as they were told. No longer as they pleased.
Specifically, to return farmer earned money back to our communities once it’s shaken loose from the pockets of the urban millionaire and billionaire cultists. Aye Boys?
@ MB? You were right about ‘Groundswell’ .

    • Bob It jut needs a wipe with a damp cloth and some soap and a better class of toilet paper regularly delivered. Your recipe would actually be to demolish many of our basic systems that help us to manage and go forward to
      last another day.

        • Get rid of neo liberal far rights wanks such as yourself and the choices we make in NZ might not be so bad. Who the fuck are you anyways son? Why the hell are you here in our country telling us how to live?

No one here cares about your ridiculously dysfunctional bulls ass country anyways- if anything we are trying our hardest to get away from you apes. You can take your mass murders in schools and public events and jam your AR15’s as hard up your ass as you can get them failing calling in a plumber to jam them even harder son.

Get out of here loser. WE didn’t ask foreigners to come here commenting on our national affairs. Fuck the hell off.

          Idiot.

  9. Soymun…Judith it seems is now “paying it back triple”–last Nat out please turn off the lights!

Jeez, “Merv from Manurewa”, Ms Boag leaking personal health information, Muller’s meltdown, Woodhouse’s “homeless man”, Chris Bishflaps daily blunders, Kaye, Smith and many others gone, gone, gone, NZ Nashnull!–the way you want it…

  10. This is where the famous political quote is more appropriate than it’s ever been.

    “GONE BY LUNCHTIME”

Bye Bye Judith….and quickly followed by her resignation and a by-election for Papakura as her final attempt at revenge against her “colleagues” .

If the TAB were taking bets, the odds on this outcome should be $1.02

      • Her position through the entire Party will be untenable. She will almost certainly combine that with her penchant for playing the victim and her primal need for revenge. Having no power is not something she can abide. A by-election will be her solution.

The big question is who will be the new National Party leader this morning? I can’t see Bridges being the leader again. You can’t go from being demoted at night to being the leader the following morning. That aside, his previous stint was hardly successful. Better than Collins for certain but not a strong prospect to beat Ardern.

Christopher Luxon on the other hand would be a strong contender and ticks all the right boxes for National. He’s the new leader without a doubt. Who will be his deputy? Bridges seems a good fit but I wouldn’t be shocked if that role goes elsewhere. National will want a fresh start and it’s possible Bridges may “appear” damaged goods after today. I see him being gifted prominent portfolios by Luxon.

Today will come as a shock to many while others will not be shocked at all. It was always going to be yet another miscalculation by Collins that was the final catalyst in her demise.

        • I see Collins said she would stay on as the MP for Papakura and even stand at the next election. Total BS. That was a not so subtle message to all those in the party that want her gone and see her as a cyst that needs to be removed. I’m certain she will be gone well before the next election dragging up the old chestnut of wanting to “spend more time with family”. Her fantasy of being the NZ PM is now finally over so what’s left for her? Tucked away powerless and humiliated on the backbench? No way.

  11. Inclined to agree. It is all about Luxon being lined up for the role which Judy Two Matronly Shoes who ‘conducted her great business’ will vacate ‘ere noon’. WS

  12. From where I sit Judith Collins’ strategy of demoting Simon Bridges will backfire badly on her. Her moralistic, self-righteous stance doesn’t hold up when you look carefully at this. I understand the comment made by Bridges was not directed at Jacqui Dean at all – she heard him make it to the two other male MPs he was speaking to and took umbrage. But the point is, she complained at the time and it was dealt with at the time – I presume by the leader of the National Party and probably with Bridges apologising to Jacqui.
Whether or not you agree with the outcome, the matter was dealt with at the time and for Collins to dredge it up now, on the pretext that she has just heard about it doesn’t make sense.

It seems extraordinary that Jacqui Dean would carry a grudge or her pique for five years and just now run off to Collins and complain again. Like really. Not all females, especially us younger ones are like that.

Anyway, my prediction is that Collins will be ousted very soon – probably today.

  13. Judith Collins’ hubris will be the death of National.

Only her hardcore fans (who can all fit nicely together into a mini bus) will be cheering her on right now but they aren’t the people National need to win over if they ever want to win an election in the future.

With Labour currently on the ropes National, instead of closing in for the kill, knock themselves out with a self inflicted upper cut.

Then there is the irony being that in the past Collins said she was against cancel culture

  14. Welcome to Collins New Xi Land where “picking quarrels and provoking trouble” is used to ghost rivals and maintain control,

    or do we prefer

Jacinda’s woke kindom that allows the abuser to abuse the victims and then gain millions in social subsidies!

How to pay for it all?

More taxes the proposed social unemployment insurance (SUI to help for those laying off staff.

Good (sarcasm) to see the new taxes will be on employees and employers paying taxes while the ‘cash’ economy gallops on and Sauron and Orcs grow exponentially.

Who cares, about the humble little hobbits forced to subsidise exploiters advancement into Middle wokedom.

  15. Apologies to TDB readers, I believed Collins demise would be over the Christmas barbecue. Seems she will be skewered by the end of the day.

    • It’s the old write an email to the CEO after a few beers at 11pm. Normally you place it draft, Collins sent hers.

There’s a scene in Return of the King where the Steward of Gondor runs of the cliff covered in flames. Collins emulated this. Sadly for National there is no Aragon to save them and Seymour and his horse lords remain on the hill surveying Ardern’s hordes and quietly thinking to himself “I can beat them with a little more time………”

        • Nah it will be uncle Fester. Mitchell burned his “Bridges” by being Toxic’s catspaw.

If Key decides to run it won’t be against uncle Fester and will be immaculately times to coincide with a significant and sustained economic recession. That said if Grunter & Beetroot shit the bed with the economy a 30-yr old gumboot could win in 2023.

What’s a worse nightmare Bertie – Honest John or Rimmer as PM in 2024?

  16. I’m glad Judith is screwing this up royally. Although I’ll never vote National myself, I do think the country benefits most when both parties have turns in power. But Judith is a special kind of cold, and I would dread the day this country was subjected to leadership under her. I’m glad most of my fellow citizens feel the same way, and I can’t wait to say good riddance to that potential dark dystopian future.

  17. Yes a fascinating development.
On face value, a massive overplay by Collins- digging up a supposedly dealt with issue from 5 years ago.
First up, someone should ask the original complainant what she thinks?
That is core as to whether digging this up again has any merit or something wasn’t dealt with properly.

The reaction though is everywhere online- Nat supporters and MPs are almost to a person going to sack Collins.
Goodfellows days are now numbered as it turns out he appears to be the guy from the Nats board who backed Collins here.
This could well be the clean out the Nats have had to have to become a functional opposition, when the dust settles.

  18. When Toddy resigned due to “mental health issues”, it did not add up. Particularly when he was included in the reformed cabinet.

    Guess who pushed him out…

“It is not the first time Collins has shown a ruthless streak – in June, she called an emergency late-night caucus meeting of MPs and forced former leader Todd Muller to announce he would resign from politics after she learned he had bad-mouthed MP Harete Hipango to Newsroom.” https://www.odt.co.nz/news/national/truly-desperate-bridges-blasts-back-collins-nats-crisis

  19. I wouldn’t put Luxon in as leader at the next election he will get a good hiding he has a lot to learn better to put Simon in and Luxon can be his understudy. I am no fan of National I feel they rule for the rich but I did see some promise in Simon (his good side and sense of humour) when I watched him on some of the Maori programming. I voted for Labour but I am not happy with them railroading the smoking in car legislation and the drug testing of drivers when we are all dealing with covid related issues and many are extremely stressed including our NZ Police force. Timing is everything and they will be hurting the people they were elected to help. I have said this before and I will continue to say Labour are in danger of losing at least six Maori seats apart from the Waikato seat cause they aren’t very strategic voters our Tainui whanau who continue to vote for the status quo. Meanwhile the Maori party could get an overhang and if we can convince our people of the benefits of them getting on the Maori roll possibly more seats. Then sit back and watch the redneck racist in our country, many of them late immigrants who will be calling for an end to the racist Maori seats. Yet Maori never created these seats, nah! not us.

  20. Yeah, whatever, it is vaudeville to distract you all from your body autonomy rights, and I am sure most of you are aware of that and in on it, even prefer the show to reality. A serious offense against a woman is punching her in the face and trying to stab her, and if Simple Simon did that then he should be arrested, and his wife should leave him. Lux? Who’s father who was an executive in pharma and his motto fucking 10 years ago was inject all beneficiaries (meaning Maori) Geez you people are stupid, and you already supported his efforts through stealth.

  21. It seems as though bridges has been burned again.

The longer it takes in a cutting of the throat exercise means the incumbent has the upper hand and is laying down the law before everyone walks out together smiling and saying how much they admire their leader. Same ole same ole….

  22. Crusher really has gone barking mad now. Nice distraction from the highly dubious ram-rodding of important legislation for Labour.

      • exactly wild katipo, he is diving about the dumpsters, playing the pied piper…. in these strange times it doesn’t pay to overestimate the intelligence of the average NZer

  23. Empty the whole of parliament and start afresh.

MP’s are elected into the House of Representatives. It is simply amazing how quickly they forget that.

  24. The best thing that the nat’s have done lately is to put a ‘Brainey’ Maori in charge of the party!
Even though it is only temporary, Reti is smart, humble and should settle things down quickly.

I reckon he should be made the Leader permanently.

  25. WOW if ACT and Seymour is the solution, the Right have many many problems, as i understand it Seymours thoughts, the rich prick WANTS TO LOWER PENSIONERS payments,ACT wants to punish pensioners if they get into power, David Seymour want to punish the old workers so the RICH can eat caviar…voting ACT will bring shit into your life

      • No,wrong this time Denny, the dissing the pensioners was why “that” tape between Key and Bank’s was not released. It was all about the oldies votes don’t matter conversation those two idiots had. Why do you think Key went so hard to bring a prosecution against the owner of “that” tape. It was an ACT and National agreement with which you can blame, no two ways about it. And why grey power votes went the way of N.Z. First.

        • You are still in denial bert. Anyway. How are you these days bert?
I was a bit concerned for you over the past week or so. You were going hard out, almost been vitriolic in defence of the caretaker government!
No matter, now they’ve got a caretaker opposition to match!

Let us see what happens next with … Who’s next?
          A. The burnt Bridge
          B. The Conservative Christian
          C. The Mercenary
          D. The other Bishop
          Or the Brainy Maori Reti

          A conundrum I guess?

    • Challenger Smallenger,… they are both the same neo liberal leopard, the only difference is if the leopard lies down in the shade the spots are more apparent. Its time we all wised up to that fact and stopped excusing these punks for what they are.

    • Not so quick L4NZ, just like Trump she will haunt whoever gets the poisoned chalice. None of the Nat’s caucus, especially Shane Reti come out of this with any integrity; during JC’s reign not one of them has had the courage to distance themselves from her frequent corrosive remarks. That National have a very divided caucus is clearly evident; is it the religious right v’s the old boy’s club? Whilst this continues they are not fit to govern.

      • ‘She’ll be back’,… like a deranged version of Arnie in a b grade movie. Sitting there smirking as some hapless new elected leader of National takes all the heat. My guess?,… with a portfolio of law and order like some obnoxious far right bum seat warmer. All she’s good for. Nothing but an extremist fantasizer living out her dreams of USA rough justice on the parliamentary tit.

    • No, the neo liberal ‘center’ is just reforming itself. Baton passing, if you will. In order to keep the . neo liberal rort going and pacify the chickens, you need to be seen as passing the baton of democracy every election, you must keep up the illusion of democratic elections and pat the heads of the electorate by giving them the feeling their vote makes a difference. It does not.

Those in power know full well the electorate have short memories as most simply want to get on with their lives. Generationally?- they play on that fact knowing equally as well that young people have more important things to do like careers and raising a family than to worry about the ‘clowns’ in power.

      To their peril.

If only, if only , they took a little time to try and understand the foreign influences who make it so impossible for them to live as dignified, happy individuals, them and their family’s. I would suggest to them the works of New Zealander Hugh Price but alas I cannot find the website ( changed computers) if anyone of you, such as Countryboy, has stored the address I would very much appreciate the modern link as a resource. But this is what needs to happen, educational tools for those too young to have known why and how they are now struggling so hard.

Education of the masses in plain speak is critical.

  26. Meh , its a set up – Collins wants her ‘tough unrepentant ‘ image in tact while abdicating ! She knew the party was faltering under her leadership and it is not the Collis way to be contrite! So voila! , – an out for her resurfaced from 5 years ago. And she took it. Seems all a little too contrived. You wait, – she will resurface with the portfolio on law and order. Just you wait and see.

Meanwhile she is relieved of a drubbing in the 2023 elections. And someone else gets to take the fall.

So cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel.

    • I agree Wild One, of course it was a set up, it just monumentally backfired on her. She tried to frame her ousting as standing up for women against the old boy’s club, hoping nobody would notice it’s actually because she’s a terrible leader and her gender has nothing to do with that. It’s Judith who has degraded and insulted the intelligence of women right now by using a very real issue for many of us as a manipulative tool. Seriously, if that’s her best dirt on Simon he’s just gone up quite a bit in mine, and I’m sure many others estimation. Who amongst us hasn’t said or heard something on par with this when having a laugh with our mates? She just humanised him, made him relatable and herself look derranged.

  27. It is interesting that many left wing commentators see the need for a good opposition and are getting no joy over the shambles that National is in at the moment .It is great to see that the country is put first rather than ideology and it is a pity that some in parliment cannot do the same.

    • Kinda silly to expect them to do otherwise, aint it? Neo liberalism is as what neo liberalism does. Left wing, Right wing, its all the same business as usual with the neo liberal.

  28. Something from Stuff, albeit changed to put the boot into self righteousness:

The problems with the ‘blokey joke’ that National’s Simon Bridges made to Jacqui Dean
    https://www.stuff.co.nz › opinion › the-problems-with-the…

    ————

[ …’Even if it had been clever or funny, jokes meant to demean men all feed into the idea that men are somehow less than women. And those are the exact conditions that set the scene, and give women the permission to, abuse men’… ]

How many times have men been the victims of the ‘gossip circle’ behind the coffee’s and the mid lunch rendezvous as the ladies gather to discuss their husbands failures while mutually minding the kids or have them parceled out to their parents while their husbands are out on construction sites sweating blood sweat and tears for their family’s? And don’t tell me it doesn’t happen.

    And now for the motive;

…’Perhaps Judith Collins could join these men on the thinking chair. Only Collins herself can really know why she decided to take Dean’s concerns public at 9pm on a Wednesday. Publicly, she’s said she was “taking the matter seriously”. Privately, I wonder if she can look inside and know that’s true. Because from the outside, it looks more like she was using Dean’s experience to take down Bridges for her own gain. It certainly does not look like she was putting Dean at the centre;…

    ————-

It seems to me, that Collins knew full well her party was languishing and seized an opportunity to bail and let the nominated take the brunt of the loss of the next election in 2023. In this case, – three men. This was her out. It cast her in the moral high ground and absolved her of any responsibility for losing the next election. Her reputation as the hard girl , will earn her the portfolio of minister of law and order.

We have all witnessed the appalling self righteousness of many women who seek to put the boot into men for just being men. They are unbalanced, calculating, manipulating, cold and in many cases downright vicious. These are just as much to be rooted out as the most psychopathic males that seek to be king.

Such as seems to have happened to Judith Collins. Now it is not like me to go into bat for the National party. I want their end. But I want it to be fair and square and not subject to pathetic cringeworthy woke interference. And that includes inverse sexism. And I would say most NZers think the same. We are not thick out here in Kiwiland. And we are watching you like kārearea’s.

  29. If the Government is smiling, they should be careful what they wish for. Collins never got any traction as leader. The reasons were clear for all to see. As long as Collins was the National Party leader, Ardern was past the post in 2023. Now it will be game on. NZ need a lot of business savvy in the upcoming years. Luxon will gain strong support with his background and the strong endorsement John Key will gift him.

  30. So where does Seymour sit on this, he has been conspicuous by his absent opinion considering he loves the limelight?

  31. Even though now I am Labour Party through and through I once made a stupid mistake on my part of voting National because I believed the pre-election bullshit and lies of the then leader of National. That is a mistake I regret to this day and hence me now calling that now former prime minister of New Zilland Sir Lies-alot. But less said about that lowlife for was only in the job for ego, taxpayers money and of course an ill-deserved knighthood.
Judith Collins has always had the aura of arrogance, self-serving and a determination to be top dog even when it came to getting others to do her dirty work for her. She would ‘tell’ say a compliant person like Slater something and then sit back and watch from a safe distance the outcome. She would then pretend to be all innocent and blameless of her actions.
Perhaps events of the past week is the much deserved Karmic Payback for all the years she has done nasty things to others and gotten away with it.
But I also feel she has personal jealousies that resulted in her acting in a self-destructive manner. She wanted to hold onto power and she was determined to demean others so she could hold onto that power. She didn’t care or mind who she hurt or destroyed along the way as long as she got HER WAY in the process. Judith Collins only cares about Judith Collins. She doesn’t care about anything else eg Swamp Kauri or even anothers’ right to privacy.
She was and probably always will be jealous of Simon Bridges. Whilst he was OUT THERE selling his book her book is a sitting duck that is dead in the water. And I am sure that irked her alot.
But looking at her behavioural problems especially in recent weeks when she was manifesting all sorts of ‘get even with Bridges’ actions her latest action showed she was no longer a suitable leader for National. In fact she was never a suitable leader. She just didn’t DO IT for National. She wasn’t right for the job. She has the aura of “Let them(the peasant stock)eat cake” and I am sure that didn’t sit right with the voters at last years’ election or anyone else even a number of National MPs even though Collins is a representation of what is wrong with National in its current evolution and self-destructive attitudes.
I would say the time of petty jealousy, arrogance, manipulation and everything else needs to end if National expects to be around in another 10 or so years to celebrate 100 years in existence. Because right now it(National)seems to be like the Titanic and the National MPs are spreading about the deck chairs on the stern of the National Party Titanic in order of ‘preference’ for the sake of looking good but not really achieving much in the long run.
We have a pandemic to deal with but all National and its MPs and its supporters in the mainstream NZ media seem to be obsessed with is some childish sense up what is called Upmanship”. And quite frankly I and probably many NZ taxpayers and voters are totally fed up with that sort of imbecile behaviour from supposedly ‘adults’.
