Hendy warned Covid-19 was getting closer to vulnerable rural areas where it could take hold, including small rural and Māori communities with lower vaccination rates.

Have these union people got any sense of timing. The workers need unions, but smart ones which know when to hold, and also when to fold.

Talking about a strike just before a long-awaited break at Christmas, is not a good look. The news item seems to leave the date hanging over like a black cloud. And this is how unions put themselves in a bad light with the general public – going on strike at Christmas as they seemed to do regularly once, while offering the same mealy-mouthed concern as is repeated here.
Transport Union General Secretary Wayne Butson said the decision was not taken lightly, but was a reflection of the strongly held views of rail workers. They were angry and distressed, he said.
“Rail workers have kept the country rolling throughout the pandemic, and as essential workers they want to see recognition of their service … We know how important rail transport is to the freight logistics supply chain and to Auckland and Wellington commuters, and have not taken this action lightly.”
At last some proper attention is being given to the railways. But the unions and workers letting delegates have their head, can stuff it up. A protest with some union papier mache head on poles is called for.
All workers deserve pay rises and many have been right on the front line nose to mask with covid.
Talking about strikes may be suitably strategic with this fat-bottom Labour lot of louts, I don’t particularly like them. But I do want a NZ where people respect each other and want the country as a whole to thrive. So don’t start flexing your muscles just before Christmas railwaymen, or you might find other muscles in opposition. Let’s try to keep the 5 million idea of working together.
