So China lied about the virus and bought up all the protective clothing – can we criticise them yet or is that still xenophobic?

When the first news of the Wuhan virus started circulating, an odd thing happened. Woke activists online in NZ felt any criticism of the virus was in fact racist and xenophobic.

Nigel Latte summed up the identity politics position in this now infamous tweet…

…this immediate position that criticism of the virus was racist was of course an absurdity. This issue was always a public health calamity and economic threat, it wasn’t a chance to virtue signal ones desire to tell everyone else they are racist.

New information last week that China was actually lying about the true extent of the pandemic, had secretly bought up all the global safety equipment while telling us it was ok and grossly under reported the deaths should start some serious questions about our ongoing relationship with China, but because many woke have globally transferrable skills, they see any criticism or restriction on migrants as an existential threat to their own economic freedoms and valuation.

When the National Party has become little more than a front for Chinese Business interests with an alleged spy inside their caucus and Jenny Shipley, Don Brash, Ruth Richardson and Chris Tremain Director’s of the China Construction Bank, Judith Collins interaction with Chinese Officials to help her husbands Chinese Company, Oravida, to gain more Chinese money  andMaurice Williamson’s love affair with  Donghua Liu seeing him become Liu’s personal handyman when doing up Liu’s batch and heavying the Police to drop domestic violence charges it is more than fair to start demanding far more scrutiny and public debate towards China’s power over our economy and political system, especially when the academic who is highlighting this influence is being intimidated and having her house broken into by Chinese agents, and there is a current SFO investigation into political donations to the National Party after a wealthy Chinese Businessman asked how much to buy 2 Chinese candidates on the National Party list.

The revelations that China lied, lied and lied again about this virus should at least embarrass the woke to stay silent. While that embarrassment is in place, perhaps we can have a discussion about Chinese Government influence over our politics, economy and future.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice going into this pandemic and 2020 election – please donate here.

I advise you not to respond to Sam, who is given to ad homs and comments in response which are completely unrelated to whatever comments others have made. Sam is well-known to those of us commenting regularly here.

If you look down the comment thread on this post, you’ll see examples. Not every comment from Sam is off-topic or even just insulting, of course. But many are.

      • Chinese Government owned Telcos have lost between 10-12 million subscribers this year with no explanation (sorry I’m not going to hunt around for the link)

Where have they gone? 30 thousand on a good day…

        • If our economy contracts 30% or so ,,,, how do you think fixed line phone subscriptions will hold up here BG?.

Anyway thanks for outing yourself as a conspiracy theory spreader.

“A widely disseminated and highly dubious story asserting China concealed tens of thousands of deaths originated from a US government propaganda outlet and a veteran member of a right-wing anti-China cult.”

“To deflect from the unconscionable failures and deceptions that allowed the pandemic to spread deep into the US population, the White House has launched a blame-shifting PR campaign targeting China. At the heart of Washington’s narrative is the accusation that Beijing orchestrated a “cover-up” that is responsible for the disastrous situation in the US. ” https://thegrayzone.com/2020/04/01/us-conspiracy-theory-on-china-coronavirus-trump/#more-22821

Did you know some other idiot poster here believes many posters at TDB ,,, are gagging for toilet roll riots ,,,,,

          Pass it on ,,,,,,

          • The refugee crises is going to tear us all apart.

20 million irregular mobile subscribers makes perfect sense when you consider that the Chinese government put 40 million under a communications black out so Beijing could cover up the truth about what was going on in Wuhan for fucks sakes.

I’m the last one you want to come to for the politics of kindness because I really don’t know how it works when everyone is being absolute dishonest scum.

So the New Zealand public from the outset have been psychologically manipulated by very smart and how ever well meaning academics, politicians and business people to follow there agenda. The public was told that it was psychologically deficient to stock pile and that face masks was some how ineffective they should leave it up to medical professionals but the truth was we only had enough PPE for 30,000 health professionals for a week.

We should have adopted a pre war stance 10 years ago when we had the best economic environment and yes national did this or that but people have to start getting fired. All those DHB board members just sitting there all quiet have to be cleaned out. It’s them or the minister of health.

And we do a good clean out because incopotent leadership turns recessions and depressions into World Wars.

            • Any self respecting kiwi will have a healthy dislike for big power games the USA and China just as we rag on Australia for being teetz.

            • Stating the fact BG is a idiot ,,, does not equate to “Trusting the Chinese Government ”

Thanks for proving the point that you are stupid …. chump

    • remo: Many thanks for that link. I have been wondering what the hell is going on, why we’re being locked down. Cui bono? Having watched that programme, I think we now can see what the end game is.

Christ…..that our government could fall for this!

Martyn: I recommend that you watch remo’s link.

      • The question I am asking is; why – at this moment – does GOV.UK state “As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious diseases (HCID) in the UK.”
        https://www.gov.uk/guidance/high-consequence-infectious-diseases-hcid
Scroll down to : Status of COVID-19
: “The 4 nations public health HCID group made an interim recommendation in January 2020 to classify COVID-19 as an HCID. This was based on consideration of the UK HCID criteria about the virus and the disease with information available during the early stages of the outbreak. Now that more is known about COVID-19, the public health bodies in the UK have reviewed the most up to date information about COVID-19 against the UK HCID criteria. They have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall), and there is now greater clinical awareness and a specific and sensitive laboratory test, the availability of with continues to increase.
The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) is also of the opinion that COVID-19 should no longer be classified as an HCID.”

    • Well that was indeed a very good video.

Excellent , in fact. And while I comply with the ‘lock down’,… it always was with a certain disquiet.. Martyn himself, and ,many others have been voicing a full return to our democratic rights and freedoms in full restoration after this ‘pandemic’.

We see our own politicians seemingly not observing the ‘ lock down’… and calls have been made to cut loose certain ones who seem to have fragrantly thumbed their noses at it…

If much of the mathematical modelling in the video is correct,- and it does seem so, – we are no more at risk than at any other time of influenza outbreaks, the mean averages stay the same, and in the case of corona-virus, are less than what we would expect. There were many salient points made about other ‘damp squibs’ in prior flu scares, esp the one in the USA in 1976. That one , apparently, was compounded by a significant number of people then becoming ill from taking a vaccine that was rushed through and not adequately tested…

Perhaps China has been accurate with their figures,- and it is the western global media and the likes of the Rupert Murdochs of this world who are directing the narrative.

It is interesting that the Council on Foreign Relations ( through their magazine ) have seemingly been ‘antagonizing ‘ China , and to prepare the USA and its allies in the west to be on a war footing with China and its allies…that can be found at 45: 49 in the video, – and it mentions corona – virus… ( competition , coronavirus , and the weakness of Xi Jinping ). And this includes Russia as an ally of China… this also could be used to point the finger at China for the western populations consumption as so many lives, businesses have been destroyed by this ‘pandemic’ in the west… and created antagonism towards China.

It is interesting also that in one fell swoop , govts around the world have seen just how easily it is to herd people into lock down and effectively put themselves into house arrest… and that we, as part of the 5 eyes agreement , would be one of the first to follow suit , being a junior partner to that agreement…

The motivation would be to enter into another form of cold war.

Another interesting aspect Andrew Mathers brings up is that Neil Ferguson, ( from Imperial College , known as Doctor Death and his ‘ patchy’ modelling of pandemics ) was wheeled in to provide ‘figures’ of the expected mortality rates, – he predicted upwards of 500,000 deaths in England with a population of around 66,000,000 ie : in reality , based on the Chinese statistics an estimated 3200 would die.

Whereas the official mortality rates the Chinese gave were around 3000 per one province (Hubei ) being hit the hardest out of a total population of 59,000,000. And yet of the surrounding 15 or so provinces, the mortality rate was almost negligible in its effects. Video @ 15: 30.

How this explains Italy I’m not sure, one would have to look at the proximity of people, age, chronic illness and other demographics. Although Mathers did cover Italy specifically. By contrast, Sweden, who practiced NO lock down has suffered far less and has already reached the top of its parabolic curve, – the point in which the crises is passing. The problem is, we have been told , – is one of the mutation of the virus into more virulent forms. We have read of it mutating into at least 8 different forms, none of which are more lethal than is currently.

Bacterium are far easier to transmit specifically in acts of sabotage and biological warfare due to the nature of some having ‘slime’ layers and others having the capacity to develop ‘hard shells’ that can lay dormant in the earth or on substrates such as Anthrax. Anthrax has been documented to be able to lay dormant in the earth for over 100 years. Viruses, on the other hand, lack those mechanisms , and more often need a vector / host , – or at the very least, some form or mode of relatively quick transmission.

We do know there is still a strong yet underground pro democracy / pro western movement in China, – could it be, – that a student / students that had those tendencies and traveled to say, … the USA to study were approached and on return to China to act on instructions? A wet market would be the IDEAL place to start looking for a soon to be butchered live host such as pigs or chickens.
After all the most deadly pandemic of all time , – the ‘Spanish Flu ‘ is alleged to have started in a pig farm in Kansas… with NO political agenda being attached.

And if one were to scream ”conspiracy theory’s!” , well, one only has to look at the extent to which world leaders will go towards imposing an agenda,… just look at WW1, WW2, Pol Pot, Stalin, Idi Amin,- or any other crazy , deranged leader / leaders. It is also well known that the CFR, Trilaterals and many others favor a global governance, as that is essentially what they are there for – so it should be no surprise the CFR was in the business of influencing USA policy…

So,… perhaps what we are seeing is a case of ‘plausible denial’ in action,… a fast moving infectious pandemic with a relatively small mortality rate but enough that it can create the necessary panic , – and which can then be used to not only collapse a global economy that demands a reset,- and in doing so centralize money supply and procure national assets even further while herding govts in the west to a more complaint role, – but also to reset that economy and balance of power (By creating public anger against China and her allies ) more towards the west.

Sound crazy , outlandish and far fetched? Quite possibly. But in effect , this is exactly what this viral pandemic is doing right under our very noses even it it isn’t the case.

I think this is what Andrew Mather is quietly trying to say using mathematical modelling and the statistics from China and even the west.

      Time will tell.

      • Thank you very much for writing that WK.

Yes, I too comply for the benefit of those I care about, but with a great deal of disquiet. It doesn’t take much sitting down with numbers to be staring at the screen in disbelief and wondering what the hell is going on with the panic when the numbers are so relatively tiny.

We do still have to see this hitting a poorer country with little protection for its citizens – or perhaps it is but we’re not hearing much about it? It’s reported as being bad in a couple of places (eg Ecuador I believe) but there’s 3 possibilities for the bodies left on the street.

        1) Too many dying and too few workers to bury them (this is the official/media position)
        2) Not that many dying but the morgue etc workers are scared to be handling them and are refusing to, and/or ‘protective measures’ are increasing the time taken to handle each lost person
        3) (And this one I suspect has happened in many cases) – the provided photos.videos are of ‘something else’ or of a very small area and not representative of the area as a whole. Say one suburb has a bad water supply and Covid hastens the deaths of many people in a day who would’ve died in a few weeks any way, the poisoned water making even the most healthy so sick they can do little more than drag the bodies outside.

I wouldn’t accuse the media of promoting the more horrific/scandalous/upsetting etc videos (the ‘clickbait’ if-you-will) and ignoring/not playing the ones that scream “it’s all right, most of us will get through this with no ill-effects from the bug” . “Life is good, nothing to worry about” seldom sells a news paper.

Thanks again for sharing. Later this morning I plan to watch the whole video. I was too tired to watch it when I came across it last night.

  1. Well said Martyn. The Chinese Government are both bullies and habitual liars. If they had come clean on this earlier many lives and trillions of dollars in losses could quite probably have been avoided.

  2. Chinas influence over NZ politics and society ,,,, could probably be described as their corruption meets ours.

Using the tax havens of Hong Kong and Singapore ,,, we accept their worst and their money.

If we want to fight corruption in China ,,,, the easiest way to do this would be to Burn the tax haven habitat ,,, that John Key fully set us up as.

And heres a good thing about burning tax havens ,,,, unlike most things their combustion would drastically lower CO2 levels ,,,,,

Anyway ,,,, our corruption meets theirs … “First, note that the posting of Nicky Hager’s address details isn’t just a revenge fantasy; it’s an actual attempt at revenge, with Hager’s “full details” provided to Odgers’ clients, who, she hopes, are appropriately “vicious”. Happily, her Chinese clients do not appear to be as morally defective as Ms Odgers, and, in fact (so far anyway), there has been no “Chop chop for Nicky”.

    • Our own corruption runs deeper than petty political whims. Our own capitalists entrepreneurs were and are still searching for ways to cut out paying for average kiwi wages.

Our FTA with China agrees to giving up 50% of our own businesses and capital and kiwi entrepreneurs let alone politicians was keen to let this happen because cheap Chinese labour was so much better.

For fucks sake we forget how much of ourselves has truly been exposed by corona and it isn’t even the hallway the deadliest thing.

      • +1 Sam – NZ governments stupidity/determination to reduce NZ wages even if it means giving up 50% of the Kiwi companies to China… crazy,

Government is still brainwashed into thinking how great the China deals are after Sanlu https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/3715/contaminated-milk-scandal-hurting-fonterra and Beingmate https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12256358…. It’s like brainwashed eco chambers all around Wellington and NZ officials.

Face it, Fonterra will never have the same culture (hopefully) as the corruption and killer milk of Chinese dairy but they seem determined not to learn any lessons from their joint venture disasters in China in every way, from massive shareholder losses putting the farmers of NZ in jeopardy, to the deaths of innocent Chinese babies with 43% Fonterra’s name on it, to loss of Fonterra/milk brand, to job losses in NZ when Fonterra loses yet more money on another failed China strategy.

Meanwhile the CEO averages 5 million a year to push Fonterra into the gutter no doubt getting huge performance pay for getting into China with the success of that not measure very well!

Fonterra could have spent the money they lost on Beingmate on innovation to reduce the pollution of the Dairy industry in NZ and developing value added products, but nope that is not the neoliberal way to spend money on real assets!

That aint the only large NZ company that Chinese interests have been a disaster. Mainzeal also went down in a construction boom with our slavishly devoted politician Jenny Shipley helping hand them the cheque that led to the companies demise.

Mainzeal’s Yan says NZ laws don’t apply in China, won’t pay back $18m

Wait till the apartments come tumbling down. NZ ratepayers have already paid out a fortune to remediate the shoddy apartments of NZ in the last 20 years. Still making them fail. Now apparently there are concrete, steel and fire issues! Clearly no lessons being learnt.

Council still seeking information on flawed concrete walls of Auckland apartment block

Well I guess you can buy an MP seat for $100k with the Natz. Remember 2 Chinese are more valuable than 2 Indians!

        • I just get so upset when I’m constantly harassed for being edgy about things like maybe China and America isn’t trust worthy and we should adopt a pre war stance with sustained military operations in long ranged counter terrorism boarder security with big guns of our own instead of all out war. And then I find those denouncing me sheepishly coming around to the bandwagon with a sore arse.

  3. That Labour FTD makes things very awkward eh……..Both main parties sucking up to this crocked undemocratic freedom hating wild food festival loving nation.

And as you say the immediate accusations of xenophobia who the woke ‘left’ like using when ever it suits their wee ‘progressive’ agenda

Maybe Martyn some blatant home truths need to be said…..but Nanny Cindy won’t allow it!

“There were dramatic scenes at an airport in Shanghai, China, as U.S. agents hijacked a plane full of lifesaving equipment, including 60 million masks, bound for coronavirus-stricken France. While the plane was on the tarmac, American agents managed to bribe locals into diverting the plane to the United States, plying them with cash.

The story was revealed by the president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region, Renaud Muselier, who noted that he had already paid in full for the cargo. “ …… Didn’t the usa abolish “french fries” ,,, and replace them with ‘freedom fries’. 😉

“This appears not to be an isolated incident. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed that he had received similar reports of goods being seized and taken to the United States. ”

“Brazil, one of the U.S.’ most loyal allies, also broke with convention to criticize the Trump administration’s pandemic gangsterism. “Today the US sent 23 of their biggest cargo planes to China to pick up the material they had acquired. Many of our purchases, which we had hoped to confirm in order to supply [our country], fell through,” said the country’s health minister, Luiz Herique ”

      ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((—))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

And BG ,,, Heres a health & safety video , put out to warn tourists coming to NZ ,,,, specifically warning them to not drink our river water or eat pink chicken when here .

It’s actual footage of someone who did just that ,,,, and you should have seen the state of their rental car…. https://www.bitchute.com/video/ogSU8LX74q87/

      • The lesson is, relying on manufacturing in a corrupt nation is not a good idea!

Likewise companies in NZ might have 1 component manufactured in China and when that goes tits up, so does their entire supply chain.

Long term risk management has been a casualty to short term greed and group think conformity all around the world.

  4. Not often I agree with you Martyn but I play the ball, not the man and you’re dead right.

Funny how no one calls Covid 19 the Wuhan Flu, as to not disrespect the Chinese. Well BS to that, this is the Wuhan Flu and the CCP should take full blame (NB that the Spanish Flu didn’t even come from Spain, they were just the first to report it)

    • Why not call it the coronavirus.
China reported it internationally fairly early in the piece and has been very open about their research pooling the information globally.
But it appears not to have originated in China when the genome is examined by several independent reputable Scientific agencies across several countries.
Also the Chinese strain of the virus did not cause the pandemic in Italy.
Iran Taiwan and South Korea also appear to have an unrelated strain to China.
There is a lot more research to be done when the USA will allow its samples to be shared which it appear to be refusing to do at present.
If your happy with blaming China so be it but I would be happier with the truth as it will eventually make more sense.

    • Or it could be another case of WMS = weapons of mass destruction, the same as when George Bush Jr and Tony Blair used the ‘weapons of mass destruction’ excuse to got to war against Iraq…which later turned out to be absolutely false.

No one can say as yet, but it is certainly un-provable if it is.

If it is?- it needs boots on the ground to carry it out initially , and a network of like minds.

Lets not forget the ‘WMD ‘, – a scare tactic used to create an excuse to get the public on-board for a desired course of action. Its been done before. And this time, – it would be an incredibly effective low budget way of doing it.

      • All evidence at this stage suggests Covid 19 originated in the Wuhan province of China, if you have other evidence then I’ll stand corrected.

As for the Chinese allowing international boots on the ground to investigate the origins of this virus, while there those same investigators can look into the Tiananmen Square massacre hey?

See I can play whatabouts too

        • KC: “I’ve still not gotten off my backside and researched “Global Research” to see if they’re worthy of trust or not…”

That site has been around for a while; information posted there is frequently supported by other sites. It seems to me to be fairly reliable.

I hope that you’ve had a chance to watch that video in the link posted by remo above. I’d never heard of any of these people, but what they say chimes with the evidence. One member of this household is statistically-minded; they’ve been crunching the numbers released by MoH, and the picture that has emerged fits neatly with what’s in that video.

From the very beginning, I’ve been sceptical about the pandemic characterisation: I’ve heard it all before, several times. Until I watched that video, I couldn’t make sense of why we were being forced into lockdown: what’s the end game? Now I think I see what it is.

          • Except you’re actually not helping, because the major issue with the corona at this time is that the hospitals are physically incapable of treating anymore people, because they are filled to capacity. Online conspiracy theories might mean that those people are able to get broader coverage and appeal, but them getting coverage doesn’t actually mean anything if the hospitals and doctors are too busy to be able to see any of them.

          • I don’t know that I’d quite say I am “Statistically minded” but I do a LOT of number work at times.

It started when I was pro-Wind and anti-nuke.. Someone challenged me to prove it to them how I was right.. I learned a LOT doing that, and have applied it to much stuff since.

Right from the start I was wondering about the numbers, why people seemed to be panicking. Something was off. Someone sent me an email with a cartoon with a duck(?) with a mask on and a caption talking of how at that stage only a few thousand had died from C19 but 25,000 die from starvation daily, and where’s the response to that? That is when I took notice, and paid attention to the numbers.

I still cannot fathom why the panic. Also wondering at what’s going on with the health systems – though most of them do get overwhelmed during flu seasons. Just last year I was in Wellington’s ER and there were more patients in the aisles than there were in cubicles, and there were decisions and arguments about who could get to a ward and who’d be discharged despite needing hospital care as the system was over-loaded.

IOW, perhaps this is quite normal but suddenly getting press.

I’ve also known something was coming on the land for a while, though I could never place my finger on it. “the air felt a little funny” would be as good a description as any, and I’ve been encouraging better disaster preparedness and not necessarily self-reliance but self-care for a while. Not so much stockpiling but learning to grow your own food, learning to prepare your own basic meals (surprising number of people today cannot cook!), learn how to make simple but effective water filters, keep a couple of weeks of food handy as well as a way to cook it, and a way to light your home.

I was expecting a quake or meteor strike to damage part of the main power grid, maybe (but unlikely) a terrorist attack or maybe (and more likely) a bad government reaction to something. Maybe Nat to get in and really screw things up this time..

But this over-reaction (I hope) to Covid-19? Nope, that I never would’ve expected. Right up until Ms Adern started talking about the levels – I knew then we’d be in lockdown in a few days even though she indicated that L4 was unlikely and far off (the way she says further restrictions are “unlikely if you all behave”), and scarily there’s all the threats of “if you little kiddies don’t behave we’re not going swimming today” – that’s what she reminds me of, my primary school teacher getting upset when someone talked out of turn and threatening to punish the whole class. That’s I think why I dislike her, the manner in which she treats the nation like a bunch of primary school kids (watch for her little smiles/grimaces as well during her question/answer time when she answers in a “that’s just how it is, live with it” manner – now I made you aware of it you’ll pick it up).

Anyway.. .It’s been a long day, and I fear maybe a longer night.

And sadly I didn’t get on to that video, but tomorrow I am able to be a good wee locked-down kiddie and will behave and stay at home (no one needs shopping or meds delivered tomorrow thankfully!), the car doesn’t need any work (where the hell do I get spark plugs, or the wiper blades I think I’ll need before winter?), so hopefully tomorrow (ie today) I’ll get a chance to finish it. Should I risk eating before hand, or will I bring it all up?

  5. Just in time delivery is a trap that health authorities should never fall into.

Stocks of what may be needed should be procured well in advance and stored within the premises of the health agency that may use them. Expecting importers to hold your stock is very negligent if not incompetent putting patients and staff at unnecessary risk in this case.
Australia can make its own equipment in any case so why not. Don’t tell me its cheaper in China and then moan about what took place blaming others.

  6. There were 60 confirmed cases in Wuhan on 20 Dec. The city was put in full lockdown on 23 Jan. That is actually fairly swift public health/political action.

    • “China uncensored” is a western propaganda venture.
What cover up. There was very swift action by China once virologists identified the virus.

  7. Nigel Latte is wrong to call people racist for criticizing the Chinese because we’re not talking about the Chinese as a race, we’re talking specifically the Communist Chinese in mainland China.
Sixty years of communism in that country has reduced its population to become the most utterly corrupt people imaginable. Words fail me in this respect. Not so their relations in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan for whom I hold great respect. The comparison is so stark in fact that one can only be horrified at the legacy of Mao and communism in the mainland Chinese culture.

    • The whole world , including NZ, has a corruption problem ,,,,, but right wingers like Andrew only criticize ‘ the other ‘.

      ,,,

Chinese ‘Communism’ has evolved at least three times ,,,, into a form of Authoritarian Crony Capitalism ,,, which despite corruption ( note the word “Crony “), has lifted 500 MILLION of its citizens out of poverty ,,, poverty which the usa and west contributed to with wars and sanctions

USA Crony Capitalism is devolving into Nationalistic Authoritarianism ,,,, and has made a absolute dogs breakfast of fighting Covid-19.

Planet destroying, country looting, war creating corruption is Everywhere .

It is enabled and greased by the shadow banking / off shore financial hubs / tax haven networks.,,, of which NZ and the South Pacific are firmly part of.
      http://www.stuff.co.nz/good-reads/8515361/Money-trail-leads-home-to-New-Zealand

The same financial cartels have NZ bent over a barrel ,,,with Interest rates rises alone ready to push our economy over a cliff ,,,, and that was pre-covid-19.

But Now the bansksters are soon going to come to the Governments of the world ,,, with their hands out ,,,, as the amount of defaults on loans, credit cards and debt will crash them ,,, they are all Merrill Lynch right now.

The property market will drop ,,,, and the words sub-prime ,,, where the debts exceed the value ,,, like Ireland and it’s banks were,,,before being ‘bailed out’ with 100 Billion Euro loans ,,, comes to mind.

The options for Govt right now ,,,, are to push the stop button on debt like mortgages and its sister rent ,,, student debts, credit cards etc.

Bring in a form of rationing …. where essential food to live is not reliant on money ,,, Maybe the same for electricity use ,,,and look at a form of reset, with obvious changes ,,, when the pandemic is under control through testing and eventually vaccine.

Or we can blindly stumble on with economic systems which will lead to ,,, a severe crash ,,, povertyand probably a attempted bailout of the richest ,,,
We’ll get Usa style tent citys and even more inequality ,,,, A weaker more angry society.

But there is lots of work that needs doing in NZ ,,,,to ensure public health, food, housing, education,, and environmental protection.

Our Greens should be coordinating with green parties everywhere ,,,, Burn the tax havens,,, and make all that dirty money Green.

We can not afford corruption enabling tax havens anymore ….

    • The most corrupt influence is that which came out of England as it colonised much of the world for its upperclass wealthy to strip out resources, invoke taxes as a private company did right across India to extract a today’s equivalent of 73 trillion, Murdered the indigenous people in American and many other lands including NZ and Australia…. Corrupt. China is a pussy cat..

  8. There was I thinking the Nigel Latta message had been lost . Still the more it is published the more it makes sense as the blame came seems to be one of the few events still happening.
. The hate that is channeled to those that are brave enough to out themselves as carriers is terrible and should be dealt with by the full force of the law. The same can be said of those using this platform to promote division amongst the classes we need to not be a nation of knockers but applaud those who see a way out of this mess

  9. “EVIL CHINESE CONTAMINATE WORLD” obviously irrefutable, direct from us intelligence agencys. Does anybody else find the title intelligence agency a misnomer?

  10. You have really ” jumped the shark” when you start using press releases from the US intelligence agencies to justify your anti China stance Martyn. I seem to have seen the line “XI lied , lied and then lied again” on several different sites. These are the same agencies that helped construct the Russiagate myth using the fake Steel dossier to justify spying on the Trump presidential campaign.
Even the Obama appointed Horowitz has come out critiscising the FBI for falsehoods and law breaking.
    https://theduran.com/horowitz-audit-finds-fbi-fisa-process-a-complete-mess-video/
Even Trump has been conned into using the “Chinese Flu” or “The Wuhan flu” to propagandize against China.
There is ample evidence that the virus was circulating in countries as diverse as Italy Hawaii and the USA before it ramped up horribly in Wuhan
The real world out there sees the Chinese approach to the Covid19 outbreak a little differently
    https://ejmagnier.com/2020/04/02/after-the-explosion-a-preparation-to-return-to-normality-and-live-with-covid-19/
Your criticism of China and the National Party may well be justified but just as the USA is not all bad so it goes with China
At least they don’t have 800 Military bases around the world and about 400 Bio weapons labs spread around the place mostly in undeveloped countries

  11. The most important fight now is to stop the wildlife trade. I can’t believe how little discussion there is in the mainstream media on the origins of this virus…it’s like the discussion of meat eating and animal slaughter. Even in the face of clear evidence of its role in climate emissions it’s in the too hard so cast aside and forget it basket. If the world can’t face up to how we treat animals over this virus catastrophe then they never will, I’m afraid to say…Covid-19 is a direct result of human abuse of animals, and its killed thousands and almost destroyed entire economies, so why are we not discussing where it came from and confronting it? It’s just nonsensical and beggars belief.
The entire world is now paying for this sycophantic relationship with a country that practices human rights abuses and shocking treatment of animals. Everybody is too busy making money out of China to actually call them out…We see the same toadyism with Saudi Arabia…the US and UK making billions in arms sales whilst tens of thousands of children die in Yemen. And China has been the main culprit in the near extinction of the African elephant, the rhino and tigers across the world, and the current decimation of donkeys across Africa for dodgy ‘health’ products made from their skin, plus the horrific bear bile industry, dog and cat meat trade, the so-called ‘wet markets’, open air slaughterhouses for all manner of hapless and near extinct wild creatures – all have been conveniently ignored by Western governments including ours. The world has ignored these horrors on the basis they are ‘cultural practices’, but also because it is hard to point the finger at animal abuse when every country in the world is as bad in different ways (cue factory farming of pigs and the caged egg industry). It has been far more important to just carry on business as usual and ignore the suffering of our fellow evolutionary partners.
Look at the plight of the orangutan for example. These are our cousins, 98% similar in genetics, yet we still carry on business as usual with Indonesia and Malaysia who are perpetuating the genocide against these magnificent nonhuman animals. Why should it fall on the struggling, fringe environmental groups to try and educate the public about our tragic addiction to palm oil? Nothing is ever said at a trade or government level. Our silence is as bad as if we are taking chainsaws to the rainforest ourselves.
And now look. The Chinese ‘wet markets’, and most likely the abuse of the innocent, vulnerable and almost extinct pangolin, have caused Covid-19 and the biggest destruction to Western economies since WW2. When this pandemic eventually passes, will the world wake up? I doubt it.
The silence of the media on the real horrors that caused this virus is deafening.

    • One more on the ban:

Dr Peter Li, China policy specialist for animal protection charity Humane Society International, said in an emailed statement,

“With Shenzhen taking the historic decision to become mainland China’s first city to ban dog and cat meat consumption, this really could be a watershed moment in efforts to end this brutal trade that kills an estimated 10 million dogs and 4 million cats in China every year.

The majority of these companion animals are stolen from people’s back yards or snatched from the streets, and are spirited away on the backs of trucks to be beaten to death in slaughterhouses and restaurants across China. One Green Planet – Shenzhen Bans Dog and Cat Meat Trade

      • They also breed them just for restaurant trade, not very different to NZ slaughtering million of animals a year for profit.
We are far from squeeky clean and even allow buying in of palm kernel grown in plantations on land that had indigenous forest and wildlife like orangutans

    • A heartily agreed that the devastation humans have wrought on other species across the planet is horrifying.
Too many people and many eat animals and products from animal. Rank stupidity in the tree aspects.

But the coronavirus did not originate in the Wuhan wet markets.

      • Too many people and many eat animals

Yep. When they talk about making AO/ NZ “predator free”, they need to be more honest as to who are the real predators.

  12. One city, Shenzhen, has now banned the consumption of dogs, cats and wild animals.

The Chinese city of Shenzhen has passed a law that bans the sale and consumption of dog and cat meat—making it the first city in the country to do so.

The ban will come into effect on May 1 as part of food safety legislation known as the “Shenzhen Special Economic Region Regulation on a Comprehensive Ban on the Consumption of Wild Animals.”

Proposed in response to the outbreak of COVID-19, the legislation permanently bans the consumption, breeding and sale of wildlife—such as snakes, lizards and other wild animals—for human consumption in the city.

The legislation also contains an article that the consumption of “pet animals—such as dogs and cats—is not allowed. Animals that are permitted to be eaten include pigs, cattle, sheep, donkeys, rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons and quails, among others.

The ban will apply to restaurants and shops in Shenzhen—located in southeastern China—as well as markets where live cats and dogs are sold. [Full article at the link]

  13. And 5G causes the coronavirus too! ffs!

An Asymmetrical War is in play bitches!
So what if the virus was started in China.
So what if MBS & Putin are colluding in the take-down of US shale oil.
So who care the the two ruling empires of the last two centuries are fuck’d.
So what if the EU is broke, virus ridden and effectively sidelined for the foreseeable future.
    This is all history now.

What is the little ole wart on the arse end of the globe gunnah do about the impending economic collapse is what I want to know.
Or are the current neoliberals still gunnah hang onto their mantra and kick out the dogma and take that on the road for a spin, when, and if we have an election later this year.

It is time to restructure the NZ economy for the future, forget about what has been before because it doesnt matter.

    • Right with you DP.
BUT Business NZ stalled the shutdown and will use MSM to fight any path away from where the have their offshore money vested.

But a fight is what I hope the get from the more intelligent Kiwis who have their eyes open to what was, the hardship suffered by many, the shrinking number of hospital beds, privatisation of public assets, involvement in the Amerikkkan wars and remaining quiet about the 900 military bases globally as well as the Israeli genocide we dare not mention, the five eyes cartel, the demonising of Russia and China as well as the colonial response to the UK banksters.

    • Was just pondering that today DennyPaoa. Many of our country persons do suffer from delusions of grandeur. Our population equates to a city in many parts of the world, yet so many think that our opinions actually matter to the worlds movers and shakers?

  15. “China intentionally under-reporting COVID-19 cases, US intelligence concludes – report”

LMFAO. How reliable is US intelligence? Iraq had WMDs? Epstein killed himself? Russia interfered in US elections?
