National’s nothing tax announcement highlights the appalling double standards of NZ political media

National’s ‘announcement’ yesterday on tax was possibly the most meaningless thing uttered politically this year.

Sure, Kris Faafoi’s embarrassing nothing announcement on the TVNZ/RNZ merger was pretty appalling, but National’s hot mess of an announcement was jaw dropping in its nothingness.

There was no plan, no policy & no platform.

What it did do though was highlight one of the appalling double standards of NZ political media.

If Labour in Opposition had announced something this empty, the mainstream media would be destroying them and screaming ‘Labour are not ready for Government’, yet National pull this stunt and the crickets are chirping.

With such engrained double standards against Labour from the NZ Political media, it is no wonder National are on 46%.

  1. Holllow man volume two= remember the prommis last time from hollow man Bridges? Northland we weill give you ten new bridges?

It was a hollow unfulfilled promise he made.

Our public result learned = dont trust National’s promises.

  2. If Mr Bridges is sincere on this – when will GST come to parity with Australia – 10% -and put money back where it’s needed?

When will the monstrous chunk of excise money on fuel be cut back so people who must use personal transport to get to work can afford to do so? Plus the massive disparity in fuel prices even within urban areas…

And Resident Witholding Tax on teeny bits of interest – which is all savers earn now thanks to the low, low Official Cash Rate. There’s no saving for a rainy day or ‘retirement’ while those disincentives are around.

Plus all the rewards for landlords and property developers. The ever-rising rates on renters and home owners – plus GST, of course. Level up the playing fields, Mr Bridges. If you can.

    • Bridges isn’t interested in leveling the playing field. He’s interested in being elected to government first and foremost, and then skewing the table in favour of his affluent friends and their associated vested interests. And that’s about all he’s interested in. A cursory examination of the history of the National Party in recent times will serve as adequate testament. “Fuck the poor — where’s my tax cut?!”

      • Give a tax break and reduce the minimum wage. Increase immigration and foreign investment into housing.
Yep 46% of our country think this is a winner. The media think this is a winner, yes no wonder were fucked!

  3. We live in a right wing controlled state pure and simple.

Until we have a real strong progressive movement too take on the Nasty Natz and the melicious media then the status quo will remain.

Too stand up too exploitation the union movement formed the Labour party in 1916 recognising that those who are enslaved as work horses of the ruling class needed protection and a voice.

It is 2020 and in our modern technological world the same enemy is ever present and exploiting the same people with a modern friendly face $.

  4. Nationals tax policy is give with one hand take with the other all aimed at fucking over the poor and marginalised. And national immigration policy is to open up the flood gates we must have cheap labour.
