If there is any solace to be found following the atrocities in Christchurch, it is in the loving expressions of shared humanity that followed them. With that outpouring of grief and understanding, racism was defeated, its hateful message repudiated – not in our name! That will ring around the world. The future of humanity on this fragile planet depends upon the recognition of our oneness in diversity. Firm and uncompromising support for the UN in strengthening respect for, and observance of, international humanitarian law has become desperately urgent. Never surrender our independence.
Some may balk at these suggestions. I make no apology for making them.
In the Harry Potter books/films/ iconography, the Wizarding community avoided naming the evil Voldemort out of fear, as if the very name would bring evil upon them. Only Harry Potter, unsaddled by age and prior knowledge and with an over-confident courage, systematically names the fear from which everyone else resiles.
The Pacific Media Centre has featured the Christchurch mosque terror attacks and the fallout in a series of articles, image galleries, videos and podcasts.
A National Day of mourning is still needed. One was held following the Christchurch earthquake and today’s terror victims deserve at least.
This world leading mother, brilliant, inspirational woman has taken the world by storm and there’s nothing to do but eat those words about lacking substance, about being out of her depth, about Winston running the show.
Some of the weapons that will still be allowed I have to say are a real concern and I will be making a representation to the select committee to toughen the laws up even further.
Our SIS & GCSB are supposed to protect us from this type of act, yet despite being warned about the shooter and the Muslim communities own complaints about ratcheting violence, white supremacists weren’t seen as a threat and according to the last decade of SIS reports, have never emerged as a specific danger.
Hasn’t every person who claimed Jacinda couldn’t be a mother and lead the country at the same time been shamed by the incredible courage, empathy & fortitude she has shown over the last week – we would be a lesser people right now without her leadership.
