IMHO, it’s probably been a bit of a septem horribilis for some in Labour.
As Shane ‘mis-spoke’, Labour seems to have ‘mis-calculated’, and all of it not that necessary given a little more forethought.
While Ministers and senior public servants were ‘inside the tent’ pissing out and over each other, they mis-calculated the number ‘outside the tent’ now wanting to piss in.
In a bicultural/multicultural society where its Anglo-Saxon Toffs (and even some of those lesser Noble Savage types) let it be known to their offspring who is an acceptable partner, and who isn’t – under threat of their inheretance; where transactional relationships such as ‘fuckbuddies’, ‘friends with benefits’, ‘Facebooked hookups’, ‘open relationships’, ‘swinging’ and Married At First Sight matchmakers are all a bit of humour and acceptable; or even where its just more convenient to just wank oneself silly over a bit of porn (at the taxpayers’ expense if possible)…..
somehow the idea of parents and a few aunties and ‘cousin sisters’ getting together to suggest who might be suitable candidates for marriage is something we can’t get our heads around.
Apparenty, the latter should jump on the next plane out of here because the next thing you know, they’ll be wanting to bring the whole village with them.
The mis-calculation seems to have been the degree to which offense might be taken – not only from the loyal Labour supporters, but also from the sizable number who don’t usually vote despite their eligability. They might even start to rival the Blue Dragons especially if eventually, they managed to get the whole bloody village here.
My suspicions are that there are concessions that could have been negotiated (acceptable to the 3 partners in this marriage), and with egos remaining intact. Things that relate to the growing realisation that the neo-liberal religion is a failure.
And if there weren’t any concessions that could have been made, we ( either Labour, Labout/Green, Labour/Green/NZ1 supporters) are potentially in deeper shit than I imagined.

I agree with you they are in deep shit, but for opposite reasons!
So every week another concession is given for more people to come to NZ, is more people who voted in the COL only to find most of their big promises that were different to the Natz aka immigration have not been met, COL has re introduced aged parents into N, in spite of the aging population which is a major long term issue here.
Under the COL temp workers are up 18% each year and more benefits for aged migrants. They have failed to keep up with the visa scams and are actually granting permanent residency to criminals in jail!

The COL also have a long history of being tricked by MSM.
As well as the daily bleating to keep the gravy train going for migrant exploiters to ‘relax’ visas for foreign students and low paid workers in particular (to en rich ‘immigration advisors’ exploitative employers, neoliberals etc) Labour wasted 9 years thinking that if they can build enough $650k houses, they will solve the housing crisis, while clearly Phil Tyford and Labour still can’t do the figures, because housing can never be affordable to 40% of Kiwi workers who are on minimum wages! And you have to have very high earnings just to make the so called affordable housing, affordable because their policies are squeezing the wages and work for the middle classes! Not to mention, to get a house you need a secure enough job to pay off a mortgage over 30 years in our growing gig replacement economy!
Pakeha with children and mortgages are apparently the biggest group in poverty growing in NZ.

It ain’t helping for both the wage and housing crisis to have temp residents and all the marriages bringing in more spouses, children and more children born in NZ to all these new workers, students etc, because our health system and maternity and primary schools are overloaded as it is, and also creates difficulty with so many children being born in NZ without being citizens and effectively being born on mass here instead of waiting until their parents are settled and citizens.
Nobody is stopping migrant marriages! They are free to marry in their own countries and have children there instead of lobbying for NZ to support them very quickly which we do anyway and their families and relatives, which is part of the problem!

So for every low paid worker like the above nursing support worker, our rules allows unlimited people (in this case 5 more people) that need support on our health system (and housing, and education, infrastructure etc) who ironically we are dubbed as being essential to solve our shortages!
Nobody is dying due to shortages of petrol pump workers or because their bed pan in not emptied or they can’t get enough liquor at the liquor store, or they can’t access front line medical people, people are dying or in extreme pain because they can’t get well educated, expert, sophisticated medical care quick enough in NZ due to long waiting lists and constant health shortages and cost cut backs!
This ain’t a migrant problem this is a government stupidity problem!
