  1. Student’s body went unnoticed in university hall for close to 8 weeks
    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/116071426/students-body-went-unnoticed-in-university-hall-for-close-to-8-weeks

Absolutely tragic case, but the question is also why don’t NZ universities look after their own students and instead rely, neoliberal style, on mostly overseas based businesses to run everything on a profit basis, including looking after their own students who seem to be paying a decent amount of money for a service that if not noticing a dead body for 8 weeks is normal, sadly below most people’s standards of decency and pastural care?

    • After Jacinda issuing a plea to world leaders to build inclusive, compassionate societies….

Maybe the Labour government and Jacinda need to have a closer look to home and their reliance on business to deliver social outcomes in NZ when we now have dead bodies turning up in universities and community homes, that have not been discovered for long periods of time as today’s news….

On top of the lack of inclusive and compassionate society when many people in NZ can’t afford food in NZ (in fact the same food produced in NZ, can be more expensive here than when exported overseas) or power anymore, 12000+ waiting list for state houses, sewerage and degradations of our coastlines, many native species in NZ with less than 100 left and about to become extinct, including Maui dolphins whose habitat is not protected from mining, fishing, and still zero cameras in fishing boats… brutal murder and torture of 17yo in Oranga Tamiriki care being prosecuted last week, bigger and bigger Meth busts…

NZ politicians need to take a long hard look at the society they are creating, which seems to be less of an inclusive compassionate society that it used to be prior to their hallowed Rogernomics trade agenda and lowering of wages and conditions while expecting social services, charities and taxpayers to pick up the slack for business here.. many of whom make record profits… while offering zero wage increases to workers aka supermarkets…

      • “when many people in NZ can’t afford food in NZ (in fact the same food produced in NZ, can be more expensive here than when exported overseas) or power anymore”

        Yep.

“NZ politicians need to take a long hard look at the society they are creating, which seems to be less of an inclusive compassionate society that it used to be”

The present coalition govt it trying to do this, but they also have to undo some of the accrued pain on the poor that developed under the previous one, and it all takes time.

        • I agree the Natz did the damage but I’m concerned that the coalition are too Nat Lite with a generous side of woke and more interested in trade agreements and big business multinational profits and continuing Natz low wage economy than actually stand for the people as Labour traditionally stood for.

Also the woke elements aka attempts to think that anything going wrong is due to Kiwi ‘greed and racism’ which is laughable when the state has one of the worst records on that (Maori in prison denied voting, Paheha families with mortgages on wages fastest growing group in poverty), and practically every policy is to support either Ponzi immigration business with migrant labour or big business, meanwhile local business seems to be going under at alarming rates with all the ponzi’s to compete with.

I’m not sure that the current practise of competing for a low wage job or rental property against 100 other people is a compassionate society and a step in the right direction…

The u turn promised from Labour has not happened and the Greens are missing in action on anything relevant and more talkers about change in the never never around the environment rather than their previous activist approach to environmental issues. NZ First seems to be NZ Second now.

Yes the coalition are better than Natz, but they seem to have very similar ideas about low wage economies and cheap labour and ignoring the environment and risks going forward, which is a big worry.

  2. One of the Mayoral candidates is fighting to protect the Greenbelt on Pukekohe for a range of sports and industries… good to see somebody doing something and thinking longer term about local business and not continually sprawling out housing and business with the infrastructure upgrades that should go to existing housing and businesses, first!

“Lord, whose main campaign platform is around controversial planning decisions, such as plans for landfill in the Dome Valley and a new reservoir in the Waitakere Ranges, says: “I am worried about the future of two very popular sporting entities disappearing because of urban development, which isn’t required in that area. Even though this is theoretically public knowledge, the general public don’t know – like many things in this city, it is up to them to try and look for it and it is a transparency failure of council to keep people informed.”

Lord says extra protections are required around Pukekohe to secure a permanent greenbelt for the town, especially with the ongoing debate over the loss of fertile growing land to development.”

Canadian feminist Meghan Murphy is coming to New Zealand and will be speaking at the Feminism2020 event in Wellington on November 13th along with Dr Holly Lawford-Smith, Dr Melissa Derby, and SUFW spokeswoman Ani O’Brien. These are the feminists they don’t want you to hear. Banned, deplatformed, censored, and harassed, nonetheless these are women on the frontline of feminism.

  4. More people claiming ACC… time there is a visitor tax for people ‘visiting’ NZ and visitors who offend have their visas immediately cancelled.

Too much of the tourist and low cost wage industry is being bailed out by other taxpayers, private business take the profits while the public are picking up the bills for their industry.

“The corporation also saw a record 2 million claims for the year (compared to 1.98 million the previous year), with the total cost of claims growing from $4.0b to $4.4b.

Among other areas of growth, it saw a 25 per cent increase in claims involving sexual violence, which Rebstock said had been a trend for a number of years after the service was redesigned to improve access for victims.”
