A new information campaign highlighting the risks of legalising euthanasia was launched today at a public meeting in Christchurch.
The icare campaign features 24 short videos of disability advocates, doctors, nurses and a lawyer talking about why euthanasia is unnecessary, unsafe and unwise. Carried across multiple digital platforms, the campaign aims to inform New Zealanders who have questions ahead of the End of Life Choice Bill’s Second Reading in 2019.
The videos will be rolled out over the next six weeks at www.carealliance.org.nz/icare, on a dedicated YouTube channel, and on social sharing networks such as Facebook and Twitter,
“We are deeply grateful to the 20 people who gave their time and expertise to appear in the videos,” said Dr Thirkell. “Their ability to explain complex issues in a way we can all understand is incredibly valuable for New Zealanders who want to learn more about the euthanasia issue. As people gather together for the holidays, we are sure the campaign will stimulate deeper conversations about what caring for whānau really looks like.”
