RESIST RIMPAC – SAT 23 JUNE – AUCKLAND PEACE ACTION
3 – 4PM at Devonport Naval Base – corner of Queens Parade and Spring Street
This is an action to oppose the RIMPAC naval exercises that will be happening from 27 June to 2 August across the Pacific.
The US military along with 25 other militaries will begin the largest naval war exercises on the globe, called “RIMPAC” – the Rim of the Pacific exercises. This year, Israel will be participating in RIMPAC for the first time. So while the IDF is busily shooting unarmed protesters in Gaza and the West Bank, and terrorising civilian peace flotillas that seek to break Israel’s illegal blockade of Gaza, other parts of the Israeli Navy will be deployed in the Pacific to help shore up US power (and extend its own).
We will be holding solidarity banners and having a few speakers outside of the base. We invite you to bring any banners and flags you feel are appropriate.
We want to stand with people across the Pacific who are resisting US imperialism and global militarism. We hope you will join us!
