  1. Another council cock-up expected to cost ratepayers a fortune

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/science/102664337/large-malodorous-gas-bubble-forms-underneath-pond-cover-at-sewage-plant

The plants use floating wetlands and were completed in 2014 at a cost of $6.4m, but the council has spent a further $2m since then trying to get them to work properly.

And guess what? It still isn’t functioning properly.

Last year, a report revealed fixing both plants could cost ratepayers a further $11.9 million to $36million to correct.

Leaving Andy Tabak asking (in the comments section below the article)

“Do any councils in this country comprehend anything about the correct use of money, that ratepayers are not banks and have to have achievable budgets. How does it cost 8 million to construct then a figure of 12 to 36 million to get working???? How do they know this? Why was it not working when it was completed? We don’t pay councils to do R&D, if it’s all been a failure why is no one or organisation ever held to account, this is a problem all over the county and one day hopefully councils will start being held to account. Ratepayers are definitely not what councils give two hoots about. “
