Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern orders security agencies to look into case of burgled professor

The Prime Minister today weighed in on the mysterious case of the professor and the break-ins, instructing the nation’s intelligence agencies to look into claims made by a Christchurch-based China expert.

Last week the Herald broke news University of Canterbury academic Anne-Marie Brady told an Australian parliamentary committee she linked her work to a spate of recent burglaries and her sources on the Chinese mainland had been interrogated by state security officials.

Brady gained international profile in September after publishing research detailing the extent of China’s influence campaigns in New Zealand focusing on a nexus of political donations, appointment of directorships and information management.

Brady told the Australian parliament her office on campus was broken into in December, and last week her home was burgled – with computers, phones and USB storage devices stolen with other obvious valuables ignored by thieves.

The latter event was preceded by an anonymous letter detailing push-back against those not toeing the official line out of Beijing and warning: “You are next.”

The matter is being investigated by the police.

At her post-Cabinet press conference today the Prime Minister said she first became aware of the affair through media reports and expressed alarm over Brady’s claims.

Ummmm, that’s great Jacinda – buuuuuuuut aren’t you the head of our security apparatus?

How come this is a surprise to you?

What the fuck are the SIS and GCSB doing with all their extra millions and millions given to them by the previous Government?

Shouldn’t an academic who points out that National are no more than a front for Chinese business interests who gets threatened and broken into be something you are actually aware of rather than waiting for it to appear in the media?

And let’s be clear about that – remember folks this information became public after Professor  Anne-Marie Brady gave testimony to the Australian’s who are looking into China’s influence in the South Pacific – this wasn’t great journalism by NZ media that uncovered this, it came out because the Australian’s are taking this seriously where as we are still in utter denial about China’s influence over our political system because we are so terrified of being considered racist if anyone dares raise Chinese influence.

The cultural relativism, pro-migration and pro-globalisation agenda of the current left wing intelligentsia (best summed up by the Wellington Twitteratti) has an enormous amount to answer for by strangling off debate under a twitter storm of ‘xenophobia’.

Meanwhile the media continue to ignore this issue.

  1. I think it virtually unprecedented that a NZ PM has even looked into something like this. And getting shitty at Jacinda for not doing something about this before fails to take into account the clusterfuck she is discovering on a daily basis thanks to the wizardry of the eternally failed Bill English or the dishonest Joyce, Key etc.

In the last couple of days, we learn that midwives are understaffed, underfunded, overworked and in short a horrible accident waiting to happen. Where oh where have I heard that before? Take any public service and its the same story!

Honestly, there are so many dead bodies buried out there from the National Party’s useless management and or their corrupt behaviour that Jacinda must wonder where it will end.

But I do agree about our spy bureaus, what have they been doing again?

    • They have defined New Zealand’s economic interests as the interest of their trading partners.

They have colluded with foreign governments at the highest level to destroy the lives of New Zealand citizens.

They do not represent the interests of New Zealand citizens, and so long as the government does nothing about remedying this major problem in general, nor does the New Zealand government.

One day someone from your agencies or a politician or foreign diplomat will be murdered because of this and you will only have yourself to blame.

  2. Frankly I would never trust the agencies to look into anything like this, in fact I would probably think they are a part of it.

The GCSB and SIS should be abandoned instead of being given huge increases in their budget, I honestly wonder what the hell they do all day – cook up stuff I expect to discredit people going about their legitimate business, oh and yes we all know they work for the Yanks.
