“Earlier, Robertson said the Government had identified a number of capital pressures that had built up over a significant number of years and it was looking at ways to fund urban infrastructure in Auckland, which would include rail, roading and housing infrastructure.” (QUOTE)

    Grant Robinson said;

“We have made it clear we are looking at a variety of funding instruments there — infrastructure bonds, partnership with the private sector to develop the transport and housing infrastructure that is required to allow us to make that growth sustainable,” he said.

“We are looking at some innovative financing mechanisms in those areas.”

So we call now on the new Labour coalition now since we are reaching our first 100 days we do need the Labour lead government to reopen all regional rail systems to begin making there safety and climate change policies realty to work for our health and welfare and our environment please!!!!!!

Use the evidence in the new found EY (Ernest Young) rail report on the ‘Value of rail in NZ’ as your evidence to complete the move back to rail now as we need this urgently.

We have seen or heard nothing about this very important study since that time when it was released by labour to the press, so the time is now clearly to use this report national party had hidden to use to justify the funding of regional rail services URGENTLY NEED NOW.

  4. Hero or Hypocrite?

    Walking the talk

During the early days of World War II, the fate of Western Europe hangs on the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who must decide whether to negotiate with Hitler, or fight on against incredible odds.

Greenpeace has slammed Labour leader Jacinda Ardern for refusing to rule out new deep sea oil drilling, despite comparing climate change to our nuclear-free moment a few weeks ago.

Ardern made the comments to Radio NZ host Guyon Espiner this morning, after questions about whether she would commit to the Green’s policy of no new oil and gas drilling.

Greenpeace climate campaigner, Kate Simcock, says Ardern doesn’t seem to have an understanding about the drivers of climate change.

“If climate change is our nuclear free moment, then oil, coal and gas are the nuclear bombs. Today Jacinda had an opportunity to walk the talk, but she failed,”

  5. Stop Te Kuha Coal Mine

The Buller District Council has just granted resource consent for the proposed Te Kuha open cast coal mine.

    https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/stop-te-kuha-coal-mine?source=facebook&

What makes this decision particularly vile, is that in 2004 the Resource Management Act was changed by the last Labour government to make it illegal for District or Local councils to hear evidence related to climate change. All councils are bound by this law to ignore and reject any submissions that raise objections based around climate change.

Under the changes made to the RMA by the Clark Labour Government, (and kept in place by the following Key/English National Government), it is illegal for Councils to reject a resource consent on climate change grounds. (or even hear the evidence). In 2012 an expensive High Court case was taken by Greenpeace, 350.org and Forest & Bird to challenge this ban as unconstitutional.

The case that climate change evidence be allowed at planning consent hearings was thrown out of court.
In a ruling that went against Greenpeace, 350.org and Forest & Bird the Judge said that this is the law made by government and that the courts are bound to obey the law.

    JUNE 19, 2012

Forest & Bird decided last month to appeal the Environment Court’s recent decision that stops the effects of climate change from being considered under the Resource Management Act (RMA).

The decision has major implications that could lead New Zealand away from taking important steps to tackle climate change. It means resource consents for developments such as coal mining can be granted without taking into consideration the negative impacts on climate change.

The case will be heard in the High Court, and we’ll be joined by the West Coast Environment Network in the appeal. The RMA is New Zealand’s overarching piece of environmental legislation.

The case that climate change evidence be allowed at planning consent hearings was thrown out of court.
The court ruling went against Greenpeace, 350.org and Forest & Bird, and found in favour of Bathurst Resources Ltd. who were seeking planning permission for a massive open cast coal mine. In his summing up, the Judge said that law is made by government and the courts are bound to obey the law. The judge said the law is very clear. Climate change effects are not allowed to be presented as evidence in consent hearings for new coal mines.
