  1. Industrial civilisation continues to release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere at a rate far exceeding the rate natural systems can process it. Annual difference values continue to be extraordinarily high, almost 6 ppm (well over twice the recent decade average) in the most recent data.

    Daily CO2

    August 4, 2016: 403.56 ppm

    August 4, 2015: 397.86 ppm

‘Nobody’ cares, even though this disastrous state of affairs portends even faster meltdown of the planet for those who follow us.

And, needless to say, the politicians continue to promote everything that makes the predicament rapidly worse: there is no short-term political mileage to be acquired from telling the truth, so the lies continue.

    • These destroyers of our planet will just laugh and say, “Burn Baby Burn” while we all melt away.

  2. the new zealand meat mono-economy is heading for the gurgler..

over the next five yrs the whole global meat/dairy market will start to be uber-ed..

..there is some serious economic disruption coming down the line..

..there are a brace of companies with very deep pockets (one i reported on last wk has $200m from backers – including the likes of bill gates..)

..and what they are all racing to bring to market is vegetable-protein-based fake-meats that are indistinguishable to the real thing..

..and a few have done it – have succeeded in making fake meat that looks/cooks/tastes like animal-flesh..

..and here is the rub..that will be much healthier and much cheaper to make..than meat derived from animals..

..and as for the dairy industry…a new york based company (backed by one of the big-food companies in america) – is about to bring to market vegetable-based ‘milk’….

..and here is the rub with that one..it also looks/tastes/makes cheeses etc…is also much cheaper to produce than milk from cows..

..and the final clincher is that is has a long shelf-life and does not need to be chilled..

..this is expected to hit the market in 2017..

(there is also news today of an nz based company ‘sunfed meat’ who are making ‘chicken’ based on peas…(!)..what a ripper..!..and what a brave new (vegan( world we are facing..

..so if you factor all that in..and the fact that plant-protein has none of the health downsides that come from eating animals and their dairy bye-products ..

..and then think on a bit..and do the financial-equations/comparisons..

    ..one thing becomes clear…

..the nz meat/dairy mono-industry is heading for the crapper…

    ..it ain’t ‘if?’..it’s ‘when’..

….so what should nz do..?…should we sit in the headlights like frozen possums..waiting to be run over..?

..and how about our politicians..?..they are so mired in ignorance they are still advocating expanding the dairy industry..(!)..so clearly looking there is no good – they don’t have a fucken clue..

..the only ray of sunshine in this scenario (funnily enough) is the film director james cameron..

..he is a vegan and he has bought a brace of dairy farms in the wairarapa..and is converting them back to growing real food..

..and the interesting thing is that he is experimenting with a whole heap of different crops..seeing which ones work best/easiest after a dairy-conversion..

..and my understanding is that he is making the results of these experiments open-source…the results will be shared..

..all something to think about over yr bacon…eh..?

..but one of the real worries i have is for iwi – those iwi who are sinking their treaty-settlement money into the dairy industry..chasing what is (giver this upcoming uber-ing/disruption) fools’-gold …

..and when the economic impacts of this hit – i fear that those iwi are going to see their treaty settlement monies going down that same gurgler..

(..if anyone reading this has connections in that world – i would really appreciate if they could pass these warning on..)

    • THANKS PHILLIP WIL;L SEND IT ON AS WE HAVE MANY AROUND THE COAST (EAST) WHO ARE NOW CONSIDERING DIVERSIFYING INTO MANUKA HONEY AND VEGATABLE PRODUCTION NOW.

BLOODY GOVERNMENT! JUST PROMOTED BUILDING A BIG CATTLE FACTORY FARM DOWN THE ROAD AND TWO HUNDRED BLOODY TRUCKS CAME WITH MAISE FEED FOR THE WINTER!!!!

BLOOODY FOOLS, AND I BET THE FUNDING WAS CHEAP GOVERNMENT SUSIDIES HERE FOR A FORIEGN INTERST ALSO THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.

    • A delicious prospect on the food and health front.

      Excellent report Phil.

The ramping up of land prices with the short term dairy boom will see many farmers left poor and some homeless.

The banks have profited immensely from the rural property boom They cannot lose in spite of what their book keeping and lackeys report.

Banks owned more than half of our rural land a short while ago and an update on that would reflect greater equity in their hands now. Cost to them is a legendary little.

A good reason to have a state bank.

More power to Cameron not because of his wealth but his vision to explore, establish and share a better way of life.
The Wairarapa is already profiting from his initiatives which are getting others thinking and people are gravitating to the area.

The upside is we can be more resilient and self reliant if we get off animal husbandry as a food source and grow our food in rich earth, preferentially organically without fertiliser.

Whole Foods Plant Based will have more appeal when the public get past their addiction to meat and dairy.

Whole foods based on plants requires very little processing and is a better nutritional approach than extracts combined for imitation of animal parts.

But getting people moving in a healthier, more humane, more sustainable, less polluting, less environmentally draining direction; is a vital step in creating proactive change. Waiting for collapse is a no brainer.

Iwi settlement money has been lost in the hands of some misguided leaders who have been “sheep“ gambling by following the quick buck. Some advisers have not helped.

Iwi land lost needs to be replaced with iwi land well managed to feed iwi preferably with home grown stuff through work on the land. Building up a new understanding will take time.

Super markets don’t need to profit at their expense.

Dairy collapse will in fact help change a perspective for the better.

The Govt should be leading a change, not leaving a decaying rural economy to bank foreclosures with some loss of rural population including workforce.

  3. War causes a significant release of CO2 and many other green house gases as well as wasting our shrinking Non Renewable natural Resources. The the immediate effects of death, destruction and loss are evident yet still they are allowed to take place.

Virtually no public outcry and certainly little political opposition. We have a PM who revels in his role of dragging us into NATO and war theatres.

A commissionaire for things unwanted by most but profited by for a few.

Lies are normal for these puppets.

    • SHIT CHOOKY,

      THIS IS VERY DISTURBING.

LIKE CHICAGO GANGSTER 1930’S ERA AGAIN.

      NO REPORT ON HIS DEATH????

We contacted Lucas’ employer on 4 August 2016 to ask whether there was any truth to the rumour.

According to an individual with whom we spoke at that company, Shawn Lucas died on 2 August 2016.

The audibly and understandably shaken employee stated that interest in the circumstances of Lucas’ death had prompted a number of phone calls and other queries, but the company had not yet ascertained any details about Lucas’ cause of death and were unable to confirm anything more than the fact he had passed away.

An unconfirmed report holds that Lucas was found lying on the bathroom floor by his girlfriend when she returned home on the evening of 2 August 2016. Paramedics responding to her 911 call found no signs of life.

PERHAPS WE NEED TO FIND THESE GUYS WHO DID THIS?

      WAS HE THE ONLY WITNESS?

Motoring Truckies tampering with emission testing to save dollars

Kiwi truckies are bypassing strict anti-pollution standards by installing ‘cheat kits’ that cause their engines to emit harmful nitrous oxide gasses, transport experts say.

The bolt-on devices are designed to fool modern diesel engines – used in trucks such as Volvo, MAN and Hino brands – into believing an exhaust additive called AdBlue is present.

Several websites, including at least one New Zealand-based site, offer the cheat for about $160 each.

Another online seller advertised the cheat boxes as being quickly and easily installed and removed from trucks.

An outspoken transport critic wants the “shameful” emissions cheat kits banned from New Zealand trucks.

Dog and Lemon Guide creator and mechanic Clive Matthew-Wilson said the Government needs to take “swift action” banning AdBlue-override systems.

“One of the only things stopping newer diesels from spewing out pollutants is the AdBlue additive … tampering is happening here, the government needs to take swift action.”

The AdBlue exhaust additive eliminates harmful truck nitrous oxide emissions.

“That’s why you’ve got some in intersections in Auckland that are more polluted than parts of New York City,” Matthew-Wilson said.

A Ministry of Transport spokesman said the ministry has concerns following a study that concluded emissions tampering is “almost certainly occurring”.

“The impacts of tampering, depending on its extent, will diminish the positive effects current vehicle emissions requirements are having.”

In 2012, an Auckland Council report blamed air pollution for at least 200 premature deaths in Auckland alone while another report found country-wide, about 1100 premature deaths a year can be blamed on man-made air pollution.

The Health and Air Pollution in New Zealand Study found that vehicle emissions are the largest contributor to poor air quality.

Diesel nitrous oxide diesel emissions are blamed for increased asthma and smog, according to the World Health Organisation.

The US Environmental Protection Agency has also linked breathing nitrous oxide particles to respiratory diseases such as emphysema and bronchitis, and the aggravating of existing heart disease.

New Zealand currently has no vehicle emissions testing regime and depends on requiring trucks imported to meet stringent overseas standards.

Commercial Vehicle Inspections Unit head Inspector Bruce O’Brien said because using AdBlue bypass kits wasn’t illegal, police didn’t have any numbers on how many were detected during truck inspections.

Most modern Euro truck engines won’t start without AdBlue, which costs about 50 cents a litre.

Typically trucks need five litres of AdBlue for every 100 litres of diesel.

The Ministry of Transport spokesman said the ministry is consulting with trucking industry groups on strengthening vehicle anti-tampering laws.

Road Transport Forum chief executive Ken Shirley, whose umbrella group represents thousands of individual truckies and trucking firms, believes the existing Land Transport Act’s intent already makes tampering with exhaust systems illegal.

“It’s a public health issue … we expect our members to be compliant with the law.”

Shirley estimates there are more than 115,000 trucks on New Zealand roads, about 25,000 of which fall into the heavy freight category.

Motor Truck Distributors, which imports roughly a third of all new trucks, said most heavy freight operators avoid secondhand trucks and purchase new vehicles designed to comply with European emission standards.

Fitting cheat kits would invalidate warranties on new trucks worth hundreds of thousands, general manager Murray Sowerby said.

“We don’t condone any changes to our trucks.”

But Matthew-Wilson said some truckies find anti-pollution safeguards a nuisance.

“The emissions control systems on modern diesels slightly affect fuel economy and power, but they may also cause engine tuning and reliability issues. For this reason, many operators simply remove them.”

Truck operators in the United Kingdom have previously lobbied for banning AdBlue cheat devices.

  4. @cleangreen – you know how it works – Clinton is the chosen one, and no one, or nothing is going to stop her from becoming president.
Bernie sanders got treated to this fact through his campaign…
The next three months are going to be interesting for Trump.
