CYFs looking for a new name

CYFs is looking for a brand new name and has asked people to help come up with one, which seems masochistic in the extreme.

How about something sarcastic like ‘The Ministry of Love’, or something descriptive like ‘The Underfunded Place Children go to die’.

They could call it ‘John Key’s Happy Magical Kiddies Land’ for all I care, so long as it actually does its job and protects Children.

Which it’s not!

A recent report found children in state care were more likely to be abused or hurt than being left in the community. We have underfunded CYFs and that’s why it fails to stop children getting killed, privatising most of the Ministry and giving it a new name is like wallpapering a pedophiles house and calling it a kindergarten.

It is an ideological choice to underfund these Government societal obligations and outsource them to the private sector. That’s what makes these decisions so immoral.

Cost cutting on the social infrastructure that keeps civil society together the way National do is like building our transport with China’s dodgy steal.

  1. Apparently this is what passes as science for the nats. They’re all about ‘evidence based practice’, but ignore the evidence regarding the failures that come with privatization. This new ministry is just another failed experiment. When it fails it will be labors fault.

  2. What’s in a name?
Telecom changed it’s name to Spark, but from what I understand, nothing much else has changed.
Now CYF are trying to get in on the band wagon.
    Whoop-de-do.
They don’t need a name change-they’ve had some already. What they DO need is a complete attitude change. Regardless of their moniker, it’s what they DO that matters.
And, while we’re at it, let’s change the name of their umbrella ministry, “The Ministry of Social Development.”
Ministry of Social Destruction would be more fitting.

  3. How much will this new “brand” name cost? Is meth being covertly and deliberately spread around less affluent neighbourhoods to undermine families thus requiring abused and neglected children to be fostered out? Are private prisons deliberately turning out damaged souls in order to continue the disintegration of families and continued abuse of children? Why is NZ with such a small population high in statistics for child abuse, poverty, drug abuse, suicide and unemployment (etc., etc.)? Why is this government constantly and consistently changing what has been previously changed because it didn’t work then either?
Instead of compartmentalizing all that it is not working, let’s put them all together in one box. Let’s give the box a name! To me, and in my opinion, it appears to be the destruction of hearts, minds and souls by design. But never mind, aren’t our Olympian hopefuls great, our All Blacks world beaters, and our MSM bloody brilliant at disseminating what the government wants the sheeple to know.

  4. Good to see Paula Bennett actually start introducing user-pays welfare, by expecting people that the State puts into emergency housing, being expected to pay back that money. This is a long-time coming and well-received by fair-minded Kiwis and the right-leaning parties.

In discussions we have had, it is difficult to rename something like CYFs. In fact, it is so difficult that ACT is likely to be promoting that it be disbanded altogether and handed over to private agencies to make sure that CYFs is run efficiently, smoothly and with minimal cost to the consumers and ratepayers. The new privately-run agency can re-brand itself as part of the contract.

The perpetrators of abuse and child deaths, should, like those going into emergency housing, should reimburse the hefty costs for their actions.

The perpetrators should pay by forfeiting assets they have to the State.

If they have no assets, then they have families who do. More often than not, perpetrators will lay the blame firmly at the feet of their own abusive parents. It is logical then, that the parents of perpetrators should cover the legal, incarceration and reparations costs to the state and their abused children’s victims. It’s fair, it’s just.

Vote ACT party vote for user-pays welfare and services next election.

    • Act is not even a real party ………….. they live or die on nationals say so ….. and they only exist to scam an extra seat for national by exploiting a design flaw in our mmp voting system.

They are the extreme right wing flake branch of National ………… as it is national votes that get them into parliament …………. so we truelly have a Nact government ….and any other name is dishonest.

Regarding the childrens blood money that is for sale in the Cyfs carve up ….

child welfare-con would be a accurate name for their Cyfs privatization …..

Just like Predator-Con is the buisness that will get the $20 odd million in Nacts predator free con plan.

Franchises are avialable for private operators in all the Nacts cons ….

  5. How do you sleep at night See-More? I have never heard such vile fuckwittery in all my life.

User-pays welfare as you call it, and as Bennett has implemented, is the last straw, that should be sending neoliberal policies into oblivion. I am shaking my head in utter disgust at what this once-great country has become with you and your evil parasitic party in politics and coalition.

You are a walking example of why those who espouse Trumpism, Reganomics, Thatcherism and Rogernomics should be expelled from the face of the earth or locked in lead-lined boxes with the waste from Chernobyl, never to see the light of day again. You and your sad bunch of acolytes are a sad excuses for humanity See-More. May you rot in hell.

    • I know why you are upset Thomas, I said that minimal cost to ratepayers, I meant taxpayers. I also had an extra “should” in there as well. Apologies for errors of fact, but our opinions remain the same.

Time for more user-pays welfare and social services for more private sector efficiency and lowered costs to consumers, taxpayers (and ratepayers).

      • I don’t usually descend to name calling…but you, sir, are displaying a level of fuckwittednes that has broken through my normal (by TDB standards) diplomacy.

What an idiot statement to make…

“Time for more user-pays welfare and social services….”

You do know, don’t you mate, that we already have “a user pays welfare and social services system?”

How do you think the current system is funded?

        Through fucking taxes….fool.

You know how that works…we all contribute when we can in the knowledge there is the security of the safety net if we fall or fail. It’s a bit like insurance.

Best you crawl back under your rock now.

        There’s a dear.

P.S. Follow the links in my comment below to see just how well ‘private sector efficiencies’ work.

What kind of miserable sonofabitch would seek to profit further from the misery of another human?

  6. “It is an ideological choice to underfund these Government societal obligations and outsource them to the private sector. That’s what makes these decisions so immoral.”

Ah, but Martin…the returns on the misery of children are great!

    http://www.bbc.com/news/education-36975478

“A recent independent review of residential care by government adviser Sir Martin Narey said that in 2014-15, eight commercial fostering agencies made around £41m in profit.”

    And not all is well…http://www.marilynstowe.co.uk/2015/09/22/foster-children-shuttled-between-homes-suffer/

“The 143 councils who responded cited a total of 64,372 children living in foster care in their regions over the 12 months to March. Of those youngsters, 14,583 were moved twice or more, while 168 children ended up in at least seven different homes over the year.”

Since the contracting out all services to ‘charities’ and businesses worked so awfully well for disabled New Zealanders (not blessed with ACC support) I have dubbed the Ministry of Health alternately the “Misery of Health” or the “Miserly of Health”.

Either will work for children and young people.

The Misery of Children, Youth and Family

    Boom!

  7. Absolutely awesome to see the new Children’s Commissioner demanding, ever so diplomatically that Cabinet takes heed of the views of the people when it comes to the Great Re-Branding.

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/opinion/82895107/whats-in-a-name-its-just-the-beginning

“Of course, the decision is entirely and properly for the Cabinet. But, thanks to the Fairfax poll, the Cabinet is not stuck for choices. It is surely healthy for the Cabinet to know the public’s views.

While there is no unanimity about the exact name there are some front runners emerging from the poll: Ministry for Children (26%), Ministry for Child Welfare (19%), Ministry of Family/Whanau (15%) and Awhi Rito Ministry for Children and Youth (14%).

Fairfax will ensure the results of the poll are passed onto the Cabinet. So will I.

Whatever the name chosen, we need to remember this is no simple (and expensive) re-branding exercise.”

Well, good on Andrew Becroft, and hopefully this indicates that the Children’s Commission will be all over the Gummint like a rash if they dare try to stuff this restructuring up.
