Internationally renowned journalists Ali Abunimah and Ramzy Baroud will visit New Zealand next month to appear as keynote speakers at New Zealand’s 2016 Conference series ‘Justice for Palestine’, with public events in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin rounding off their Australasian tour. They will host a discussion on Palestine, its history in a middle eastern as well as a global context, through to contemporary questions with a special focus on international cooperation to end the illegal occupation of Palestine.

Dr. Ramzy Baroud has been writing about the Middle East for over 20 years. He is an internationally-syndicated columnist, a media consultant, the founder of palestinechronicle.com, and the author of several books, including ‘Searching Jenin’, ‘The Second Palestinian Intifada’ and his latest ‘My Father Was a Freedom Fighter: Gaza’s Untold Story’.

Ali Abunimah is co-founder and editor of electronicintifada.net, freelance journalist and author, whose books include ‘One Country: A Bold-Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse’ and ‘The Battle for Justice in Palestine’. A resident of Chicago, he contributes regularly to ‘The Chicago Tribune’ and ‘The Los Angeles Times’. He has appeared on discussion programs on CNN, MSNBC, PBS and other networks, and in a number of documentaries about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including ‘Collecting Stories from Exile: Chicago Palestinians Remember 1948’.

The talks will culminate in a discussion of how we in New Zealand and internationally can support the struggle for justice in Palestine, addressing the most effective ways in which international pressure can be applied, including (but not limited to) strategies such as the ongoing ‘Boycott Divestment & Sanctions’ (BDS) campaign, similar to the campaign of economic boycott that successfully brought South Africa’s system of Apartheid to its knees.

  1. This is an unprecedented opportunity for NZers to hear the Palestinian narrative. I hope the speakers get good turnouts.

    • Lois you attend in Wellywood and I shall attend in Auckland. You will always be remembered as a Champion of Palestine.

  2. Will they be discussing the current campaign of murder and terrorism currently being waged by Hamas against Israeli citizens on a daily basis, or the tunnels being dug with the sole intention of infiltrating Israel…a legitimate State, with the objective of killing innocent Israelis! It would be good for New Zealanders to hear their views on these issues also! Yeah right!!

    • Israel already has resident in this country its own propaganda master, I heard him on Radio NZ three nights in a row. Nothing about the endless encroachment of Palestinian land and the blockade on Gaza. Perhaps you Peter should watch 5 broken cameras the movie showing pretty passive resistance as Israel encroaches more and more on what is left of Palestine.

    • Peter – Hamas has not blockaded Israel with it’s own version of the Berlin Wall.

Hamas has not built illegal settlements on the West Bank.

Hamas does not possess atomic weapons.

      Hamas has not invaded Israel.

If you want to support an expansive, belligerent hostile regime, you need look no further than the government of Israel.

There is a considerable similarity between the occupation and subjugation of the people of Gaza, and the plight of Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto in the 1940s.

You’re just too partisan to understand all this.
