  1. A clear majority of 54.7% want a capital gains tax but Jacinda won’t change her mind on it. Why not. I’m from the right and don’t really want it but have paid it in the past. Death Duties it was called then and on the death of my grandfather, who was the original owner of our farm, my brother and I paid 66 thousand pounds to the government. If anyone would hate CGT you would think it would be me. I don’t think it would make huge amounts of money but it’s the symbolism of it and the message it sends that’s important. There’s no doubt there’s a big gap between rich and poor in this country and we have a Labour government who got elected on fixing it. Jacinda could change her mind on this and make a lot of her voters happy but won’t because she can’t be seen back tracking. I believe she’s lost the plot. She could have pursued it last time and the population would have begrudgingly gone with it. I would have. She could do it now and gain some brownie points but she won’t. What is she actually good for. Keeping us alive is big, at the cost of our economy. Not keeping any election promises is big also. The population won’t forget.

    • That’s good thinking New view and I think you are spot on about Labour’s and PM Jacinda’s direction. I wish I was horribly wrong about Jacinda, I think she is doing another Helen Clark – a great middle class save and resetting of Labour’s course,. And particularly Fin Minister Grant, very fishy. The ghost of Sir Michael Cullen hangs behind him. I fear we are living in a ghost story from the past, but it’s not as much fun as the film Beetlejuice.

  2. And what do you expect when the nasty underbelly of our country is threatening and abusing her. NZ is showing we are still a very patriarchal country with many of those abusing Jacinda being white men. In the meantime the rich white business men are in the background providing the money and resources to try and take our PM down. I hear the angry Pakeha men talking on the radio talk back shows many of them sounds uneducated and ill informed and the stuff that comes out of their mouths is just plain nasty. And this nasty treatment of our women leaders and politicians is not new its been going on way before Jacinda they use to attack Helen.

    • I am astounded at the misogyny, the playground name-calling and the refusal to accept facts. More than 6,000 Covid cases today, and a bunch of non-testing fuckwits soon to be taking a virus home with them. We should 501 the lot of them to Florida.
