This week Waatea 5th Estate covered TPPA, private prisons, the impact of the Awaroa Abel Tasman Sale on Maori & the intergenerational friction of housing in Auckland – on Seven Sharp & Story they raced a fast car around a track, had a reporter feeding a picture of Leonardo Dicaprio a cup of tea and another host trying to make the other eat 1/2 a chilli.

Friends don’t let friends watch Story or Seven Sharp.

  1. Waatea 5th Estate absolutely bloody marvellous !!
It’s is like a breath of fresh air on a spring morning. Invigorating and stimulating.
Proper well thought out questions and the guests are allowed to answer at length and with depth of thought.
Et le ‘piece de resistance’… no ads, so the flow of the conversation isn’t broken.
    Top marks to all involved!!!
    I’m spreading the word.

  2. Brilliant first week of shows. How can we get this on a free to air station?
If its just money lets make it happen. Well done to everybody.

    • Newsflash! It is “free to air” on the internet. The vanishingly small number of kiwis who don’t have internet at home or on their mobile device can watch it at the public library, or if they have a wi-fi capable device, one of the *many* places there is free wi-fi. Television is dead.

  3. this show should be syndicated just watch episode 5 bomber was brilliant made me laugh this could would be a rating winner get seven sharp off tvnz and get this on
hoskins gone bomber on ps see if you could get interview with professor guy standing or Steve keen

  4. It’s been informative and entertaining – long may it last, with viewings going through the roof. Get the ‘real news’ here New Zealand.

  5. A very good start, Seven Blunt and BS Story have just lost viewers, I think. Well, they did not have that many anyway, except bored, uninformed channel switchers, who had nothing else to do and watch.

Informed people follow this new diamond of informing alternative journalism, shown on a blog, for heaven’s sake, a blog!

  6. I have watched every episode and I’m loving it. Like others, I too have missed seeing a current affairs program like this. It is so refreshing to see a good debate of information, ideas and opinions without the John Key/Nat political pr spin and lies that has reduced NZ’s mainstream media into a arrogant sycophantic joke that treats NZers like idiots. The corruption of the key National government has robbed us of so much over the last 8 years.

  7. No comparison really.

This is what real news and current affairs broadcasting is all about. Spot on 🙂

The other two mainstream 7 pm programmes are fluff, as well as propaganda BS, which most thinking Kiwis can see through and don’t waste their time watching!

  8. It’s awesome. I had no idea how starved I was of a guality current affairs platform. We do care about each other and our communities and we can greatly improve our lot with open honest discussion and support for action. I hope it grows. Thanks
