Kim Dotcom – lost in translation?

One of the most interesting parts of the defence in the Kim Dotcom extradition case has been the accusation that the American’s have purposely misconstrued what Dotcom said in German. The much repeated,

“At some point a judge will be convinced about how evil we are and then we’re in trouble,”

turns out to be a translation the American’s made which they won’t release. Dotcom’s defence is that he didn’t say that at all and that he actually said,

“Because at some stage a judge will be talked into how bad we allegedly are and then it will be a mess”.

If that’s true we are witnessing evidence of a set up. When you add that to all the other illegal means by which Dotcom has been spied on, his legal rights abused, assets seized, property stolen and political machinations, this, if proven, is the cherry on the top of a pus cake.

  1. Disgusting. Now false translation?

In addition what does it matter what he said – the police illegally raided his home, manhandled his family and it is about a civil case that Sony lawyers don’t even think they can win.

    The rest is harassment.

  2. Yes, what a revelation, so much manufactured “evidence”, it is just typical, as for how our big brother USA and its agencies play with dirty tricks. No wonder John Key loves Obama and has a second home in Hawaii, he worked there, he is well connected, he has met the Hollywood studio bosses, he made deals with them, costing the taxpayer, he is just a great a manipulator, having learned the ropes during his many overseas jobs as merchant banker and speculator.

Hand fits glove, to be the perfect glove puppet.

  3. The integrity and ethics of Greenwald and Dotcom and then we put that up against the compromised lack of ethics and integrity of the NZ police and and the ruling idiot elite led government and it is extremely likely that a set up has been in process against Dotcom for a long time. Look at all the evidence tampering that goes on in NZ and the brain-dead few judges who operate with a booze pickled unethical brain with limited brain cells still alive.
Justice is a rare bird and the legal system needs major overhauls.

If Dotcom gets any form of justice at all, it will be a miracle.

  4. Does no-one else think that Dotcom is playing the Key govt for a fool and taking the mickey out of the police? Did he choose to come here knowing all about Key’s relationship with Obama?

    • The police usually avoid prosecuting people with means and money to defend themselves. Long games like this eventually destroy political capital. Keys should be regretting using his influence over our spy agencies because we know what they have / are up to.

Your not meant to use spy agencies offensively.

  5. Hmmmmm, this gets dodgier by the day. One wonders if Dotcom could actually get a fair trial if he were deported back to the American Empire’s heartland.

  6. And whether they want to win the extradition hearing.

“Your honor, the FBI refuses to cooperate with court orders from other judges that were made to protect the defendant’s rights. How can you trust them to give him a fair trial if he is extradited, or indeed how can you trust them to tell you the truth about their supposed, no-doubt illegally gathered ‘evidence’ when they show such blatant disrespect for your colleagues.”

  7. If dot com dosnt get true justice its because JK controls the law.
Hollywood dosnt like competition and wants dot coms money that dot com earned.
it was a set up from the beginning, letting him into the country then letting Hollywood make a case against him.
Jk dosnt care about NZ people hes only interested in his puppet masters, dot com would be a great asset to NZ, more so than JK.

  8. Kim Dotcom was set up from the time he was granted residency in NZ, when NatzKEY enabled him to reside here, intended so the US entertainment industry could get its grubby little hands on him.

All courtesy of the corrupt, dirty, venomous, FJK, who is hoping his betrayal of a NZ resident will win him some lucrative favours with his American masters!

While FJK and his mobsters remain in power, we are all Kim Dotcom at any time! That’s the future for NZ residents and citizens, to be picked off and sold one by one, by traitor FJK, so he is able to feather his own stinking, putrid nest!

  9. When I first heard about, or read the alleged translation, I thought it doesn’t make sense! Me being German, I tried to translate back what he allegedly said in German, and I thought that it is highly unlikely that he would use the actual German word for ‘evil’ (‘boese’), as this is not often used in colloquial German – especially not in a sentence like this. Then I read about the other translation and compared the two, and I think I know what was *actually* said and where the translation went wrong.

The German verb ‘ueberzeugen’ can mean ‘convince’ as well as ‘talking into’ depending on context: ‘ueberzeugt sein’ means ‘to be convinced’, but ‘ueberzeugt werden’ means ‘to be talked into’ (literally ‘to get convinced’). And the adjective ‘uebel’ can be translated to ‘evil’ as well as ‘bad’ (and lots of other things), again, depending on context. And the intricacies of German grammar can easily lead to confusing ‘allegedly bad’ with ‘bad’ (or in this case ‘evil’).

I wonder if they used some translation software…
I would really love to find out what was actually said!

    • There is no such thing as a fair trial in the USA. Many people have been freed after being convicted and further evidence such as DNA comes to light to completely clear them. Once in the hands of the US justice anything can happen. People have actually died after being arrested for a parking ticket in the cells. There is plenty of video evidence of police killing people on the streets. It is not a place for justice any more.

  10. They will have to reveal the original German and get a revised translation surely. But such being the subtleties of language, the original would still be open to ‘interpretation’ . Google Translate is crap even for concrete, everyday vocab – it doesn’t recognise context and word order, the latter being critical in German
