Another example of media bias – Key’s holiday vs Cunliffe’s holiday and will the Labour Party grow a spine?

Another, sad, tired example of media bias in terms of holidays this time. I pointed out in the weekend the extreme bias being exhibited by the media

The current level of negative bias being exhibited by the conservative corporate media towards David Cunliffe suggests National’s infamous Australian consultants, Crosby-Textor, have suddenly gained editorial staff positions on every branch of broadcasting.

…but the farce of attacking Cunliffe for a holiday in Queenstown is extraordinary when compared to the adoration heaped upon Key’s holiday. Cunliffe is smeared with a sex offender while Key gets to take selfies with Max in Hawaii.

In the weekend an anonymous attack on Cunliffe from within the Party which begs the question, when the hell will the Labour Party stand up to their MPs and bang heads together to force some internal discipline?

Cunliffe was crucified for grinning at a conference and not answering how he would vote 3 months from when he was asked the question, yet the Labour Party seems incapable of forcing internal discipline now.  What the ABCs within Caucus refuse to accept is that the long suffering Labour Party members and affiliates want a genuine left wing political platform articulated by Cunliffe and to actively work against that desire is traitorous.

If Labour lose or if they win, Cunliffe is staying as leader and he needs to oversee a brutal reckoning for those who have shown all the loyalty of Shane Jones.

  1. Yeah, I noticed that too.

The sub-title is “Labour chief meets sex offender” but we learn further down he just arranged for a Labour candidate to meet the man. So he may not have met him.

And the man has permanent name suppression, so how on earth is Cunliffe supposed to know who he is??

Criticisms of judgement? Taking a family holiday in NZ? For 3 days? Really?

And only right at the bottom of the article do we learn Key had 10 days in Hawaii.

  2. The ABC’s understand full well that the left contingent in Labour has support and stamina. That is what they are paid to undermine.

    • To reiterate. The real ABCers here are John key, the national party and the complicit pro national biased media, who are doing everything in their power to get rid of David Cunliffe and knock labour out of contention.

  3. Hopefully contrary to what Paddy Gower says Many wavering labour party voters will realise what a hounding Cunliffe is getting. Perhaps Labour won’t get in (but I still don’t believe the polls), however I look forward to Cunliffe dealing to the backstabbers and the ‘me before the party’ people. What the hell is wrong with them?

  4. By all accounts, its just another media beat up of David Cunliffe. I read that article on “Stuff” that made no apology for making afew false claims, that said…

“A previous version of this article mistakenly reported Labour’s most recent polling at 23.5 per cent. It also incorrectly said Cunliffe had taken the week off when he was away for three days.”

And it appears that its from this “dodgy” article where Gower and NZ Herald etc have got that info from, and that so called “insider” sounded more like someone like whaleoil than anyone from Labour. I seriously doubt that this came from labour itself, and what Labour has been quoted as saying, most definitely contradicts this “so called “insider.”

John key flies out of the country to his home in Hawaii, and not a derogatory word or put down from the media is said. David Cunliffe goes to Queenstown, has 3 days and then is back putting in the hours and is crucified for it. We have a mainstream media actively and with irrational manic fervour sabotaging every move Labour makes and putting every word and anything that Cunliffe says or does through a meat grinder. Whichever way the media see it in their get Cunliffe at any cost campaign, David Cunliffe is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t.

The real ABCers here are John key, the national party and the complicit pro national biased media, who are doing everything in their power to get rid of David Cunliffe and knock labour out of contention.

  5. I know this is out on a limb but is it possible that this ‘insider’ is just a pure invention by someone with their own agenda to destabilise the idea of unity within Labour? I’m not in the Labour caucus or cabinet, I’ve got no idea whether there are any ABCs or not (though Hekia Parata’s husband putting finance into Mr Jone’s campaign – a little smelly…).But I can see how continual questioning of a ruskus is really toxic. V Handy for those who DON’T want Labour in.

    • Not out on a limb at all, but probably the truth of the matter. I heard on a Nine to Noon item this morning that the so-called insider has not been able to be definitely traced, either to Labour Party sources or any other. The evidence is mounting that the insider is part of the National Party Dirty Tricks Brigade. I wonder if they keep dishing out the dirt because they are really scared of their illusionary support, or whether they just get a perverse pleasure out of denigrating people.
